Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 5
Stage 5 is the second and last mountain stage of the race. After a big HC climb, there is a long descent before two short steep climbs to finish the stage. The plan is to isolate all the other riders on the HC climb. I will do my work and then coast to the finish.
The Race
A five man group got away about 15 km into the stage, it included: Boom of Belkin, Pinotti of BMC, Taborre of Vini Fantini, Flecha of Vacansoleil, and Belkov of Katusha.
With 5 km to go a group of eight has split from the rest of the bunch: Kiryienka, Van Den Broeck, Scarponi, Martin, Cataldo, Talansky, Froome, and Fulgsang. Costa leads this group by 45 seconds.
Two hills left, to go and a group of seven is together: Kiryienka, Froome, Van Den Broeck, Fulgsang, Scarponi, Costa, and Talansky.
With 1 km to go Froome has ridden away from all the contenders for the overall, and takes the stage win. Sadly, I couldn't find a picture on the internet while constructing this report.
I coasted across the line in 52nd place almost 12 minutes down. I'm now 46th in GC.

U25
Talansky now leads Pinot by 9 45.
Post Race Comments- Another day, another win. Not much to say, the plan was to isolate all the other riders, and it worked to perfection. Tomorrow is the dreaded 30% wall stage. I will attempt to get into tomorrow's breakaway, as the team doesn't want to have to chase as the stage is constantly up and down.
See you then- Ian

Great stage win... and again in front of R.Costa...if Froome weren´t so strong, it would be one nice fight to watch between both...

baia: Maybe in a few years Costa will be stronger and can fight with Froome
Sutty68: He definitely is.
wogsrus: It is, although this will be Ian's last race with Froome for a while, they only race together one more time this year, in the Tour of Romandie.

daloe: Thanks, He has had a great start to his pro career.
Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 6
Today's stage is 208 km of hellish gradients. The stage probably goes over 10% 100 times. I've been given the clear to go into the breakaway, and I will give it my best to take my first pro one.
The Race
From the gun, I attacked from the peloton. I got away, and was in the day's breakaway.
I was later joined by: Nuyens of Garmin, Tankink of Belkin, Brambilla of Omega Pharma, and Pietropolli of Lampre.
With 80 km to go, Costa had already attacked from the peloton, Froome wasn't paying attention and is behind my one minute. My group leads Costa's by 9 minutes.
With 25 km to go, my group of five leads the main GC group, which Froome has joined, by 3 30.
3 min later, Costa comes through the 5 km to go mark, Froome trails by 10 seconds.
And Brambilla takes the win! I take third place, definitely a good result for me.
3 minutes later, Froome crosses the line after catching and dropping Costa, who died with 3 km to go.

Post Race Comments- I'm very happy with this result. Coming into the race, I never thought I would get a podium place in a stage. Also, Froome increased his GC lead, so barring multiple mechanicals, he will take the win following tomorrow's Time Trial. My goal for tomorrow is to stay in the top 20 in GC, although I will feel the effects of a hard day in the wind.
See you then- Ian

You did great Ian, nice 3rd... your captain showed great legs already, managing to defend himself from one agressive R. Costa... well done.

Thoroughly enjoying this story, been following since day one. I had thought I'd posted before, but having looked back clearly I haven't.
Great start to his career for Ian, hopefully he keeps up the good form. Great 3rd place and with a real shot at Top 10 in GC and Top 3 in Young Riders. Best of luck.
If you don't see me comment for a while it's not that I have stopped following its purely a case of me having so many to read that I forget to comment lol!
Keep up the good work!

Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 7
Today's stage is a 9 km Time Trial to finish the race. It's very short, so a rider who can ride a good prologue is expected to the take the win. Froome has the GC wrapped up and expects to extend his lead. I hope to stay in the top 20, although that will be very hard, the first three riders behind me are much better Time Trialists.
The Race
The best early time was set by British TT champ Alex Dowsett, he finished in a time of 12 22.
Brent Lancaster of Orica-Greenedge surprised the experts and was the first to unseat Dowsett, riding the short course 4 seconds faster than the Brit.
Lancaster's time stood for a long time until Andrey Amador rode the best Time Trial in his life coming in with a time of 12 06. He ended up in 2nd place on the stage.
Amador's time didn't last very long as Spartacus soon came in and beat the Movistar rider's time by six seconds.
Here is me coming off the start ramp, I would need a good ride to stay in the top 20.
I didn't great throughout the whole ride and I finished almost a minute down on Cancellara. Was it good enough for the top 20 though? Find out at the end of the report
Chris Froome was the last rider that could challenge Cancellara. He had a good ride, but it wasn't enough to take the stage. Froome finished the stage fourth and wins this year's edition of Tirreno-Adriatico.
forgot to export results, sorry
Stage Results
Final GC
I end up in 21st place, 5 seconds behind 20th place Peraud.
Other Jerseys: Points: Froome, KOM: Brambilla, U25: Talansky.
Post Race Comments: This race really couldn't have gone better for the team. Two stage wins and the GC win. The has a rider in the top 3 on 5 of 7 stages and at least one rider in the top 10 on every stage. This was a great start to my WT career.

March Review
Rider of the Month: Marcel Kittel: Kittel took two wins this month, and they were big. The first was a trashing of the other sprinters in Tirreno-Adriatico. About a week later, he took the biggest win of his career, taking Milan-San-Remo.
Surprise Ride of the Month: Bjorn Leukemans: No one thought that Bjorn Leukemans would get in the top 10 of this year's Ronde; but he defied all the experts and took his first Monument.
WT Races
Paris-Nice: Thomas Voeckler: The Frenchman takes the win
by over 2 minutes ahead of second place Simon Spilak, Voeckler took 3 minutes on Stage 7 to take his first Paris-Nice title.
Tirreno-Adriatico: Chris Froome: Froome was dominate, taking 2 wins and the points jersey along with the GC win.
Milan-San-Remo: Marcel Kittel: The German sprinter took the win, the sprinter's teams had control of the race from the get-go and this edition was the most boring in years.
Volta Catalunya: Vincenzo Nibali: The Italian took his first major win, in his first major race by 18 seconds over Alberto Contador.
E3 Harelbeke: Tom Boonen: The Belgian started the cobbled classics on fire, with a long solo win ahead of Cancellara.
Gent Wevelgem: Bernhard Eisel: The Austrian took his second victory in the easiest of the cobbled classics.
Ronde van Vlaanderen: Bjorn Leukemans: The Belgian took the biggest win of his career, using great tactics, he attacked from a long way out and had some allies in the break; resulting in the win.
WT Rankings
Contador leads the rankings because of a fourth place in Paris-Nice and a second place in the Volta Catalunya.
Katusha is on top due to good results from Spilak, Rodriguez, and Florencio.
CQ Rankings
Alberto Contador also leads here.
Team Sky is at the top of the CQ due to good results in the Omloop, and Dwars door Vlaanderen.

Tour of the Basque Country Preview
This year's edition is very tough. There is 4 hilly stages, one flat stage, and a hilly time trial to finish out the race. The winner will need to have some punch, and be able to ride a TT.
Favorites: Joaquim Rodriguez | Vincenzo Nibali | Alejandro Valverde | Alberto Contador |
Outsiders: Peter Sagan | Sergio Henao | Rigoberto Uran | Ryder Hesjedal |
Worth Mention: Jurgen Van Den Broeck, Bauke Mollema, Simon Gerrans, Thibaut Pinot, Igor Anton, Chris Horner.
Full Starlist
A star-filled field in this year's Tour of the Basque Country. Team Sky hopes that Uran or Henao can get a top 5.
Sky brings its team for the hilly classics to this race. Uran and Henao are the leaders with the Belorussians their lieutenants.
My Goals
I have no goals in this race for myself. I will just be a good teammate, and use this race as preparation for the Ardennes and the Giro.
