at that age Cipollini could hardly win anything anymore. McEwen won't last much longer

You're right but McEwen will still win this year and next year too. I truly believe that this year will be Bennati/Cavendish year. I'm not saying they will be the biggest sprinters, but they will be the best young sprinters and do many top 5 and achieve many wins too. Of course they aren't like Bonnen or Freire, but be carefull with them.

I don't think Ciolek will make any impact this year. Next year yes, but this year no. He's shadowed by Cavendish. Only when Cavendish reaches the top, Ciolek will definitely raise up his sit

I'm not arguing that. I just think he's begun to fade ever since 2006 and that his results will worsen every year from now.

Bennati is older than Boonen.

Ciolek is a year younger than Cavendish and an immensely better all-round rider. what had Cavendish won at the age that Ciolek is now? nothing. Ciolek has won several races including repeated ProTour stages against top sprinters. not to take away from Cavendish, but Ciolek is a better rider. is he a better sprinter? who knows, but he's definitely a better rider and younger.

I probably wanted to mention other sprinter and wrote Bennati
About Ciolek, the question isn't really who is the best all-rounder but who is the best sprinter. And i think Cavendish is better.

Cavendish won mostly smaller races last year, whilst Ciolek kicked butt at the Deutschland Tour. Nothing more to say to that( except for that he's german and Cav is British )
imo Ciolek is better as a sprinter and definitley as an allrounderB)

in time we'll know the difference. Ciolek is supposed to do the Tour this year. let's see if Cavendish can win a stage at the Giro.
more importantly, let's see if Petacchi can ride the tour. every year something happens and he isn't able to ride...

Isso, its all very well saying that Ciolek at his age won more than Cavendish did at that age, since Cavendish didnt ride for a ProTour team at Ciolek's age.
Samtheman, Cavendish won stages at ProTour races Catalunya and Benelux, which are the same status stage race as Deutschland Tour. Ciolek needs to start winning in places that dont speak German imo. In 2007, he won in Germany and Austria only.
Theres no doubt that Ciolek is a better all rounder, but I reckon that Cavendish currently has a better sprint and will hopefully get better on those dreaded speed bumps.

of course. my point being that you can't compare through wins. but if you really want to compare wins (which it seems from the rest of your post), Ciolek had a few more, including the german national road race as an 18 year old

the Eneco tour can be discarded, I feel because of the competition. as for Catalunya and Germany, the competition wasn't "equal level". it was the same. the same riders, so I'd say it's pretty even between them.

I don't mean "all-rounder" as in getting over the hilly stuff for a sprint. Ciolek can win classics other than in sprint stages. that's what I mean. as for who's got the better sprint, only time will tell.

Uhm, I'm 100 % sure he's going to ride the Vuelta again this year. And I'm about just as sure that Chris Anker Sørensen is going to be the leader of the CSC-team during the Giro. Sastre might participate, but then it's solely to get in form. |

yes, that's right. that's the one thing I love about CSC: that Kim Andersen tells the press everything about the season's plans
Andy will support Sastre at the Tour.

1. he won't ride it to win. it's as preparation, as clearly his preparation hasn't been good these past years. he's much better than what he's shown.
2. the time trials aren't that long and he's not that good at them. he's just better than all the italian climbers
