MrUfo: Thanks, it has been a good start indeed.
Sutty: I know
warchex: Roinas and Lunke should develop into decent domestiques, while Schmidt should develop into a very good sprinter as well as Enger. Thanks
Miguel: Thanks, good to know you'll follow
Jesleyh: Actually Schmidt will probably develop to be about the same level as Enger.
Teddy: Thanks for the kind words, good to have you on board.
Racing could begin again tomorrow depending on time I have. Pretty shattered though.

2.2: Volta ao Alentejo
20/03 - 24/03
We bring to Portugal a decent squad, very like the one we sent to Croatia. Enger headlines again, with Hoem and Lunke here to back him up. The sprints should be a warmup for the crucial final stage, which could decide the GC so we will try something there most probably. As for competition here, Groenwengen and Gulihermo Mas should prove hard to beat in the sprints among others and home rider Rui Sousa is the big favourite for the GC. There is plenty more depth as well so getting results here won’t be easy.
First up is the first day of four on the flat. Our tactics are to attack on the final hill and try to get a gap with Lunke or Hoem, with Enger in reserve for the sprint. As the race gets underway, a group of four is let go including Plussbank rider Roinas. He has expressed interest in trying for a good GC here and could use the bonus seconds on offer at the intermediate sprints.
Roinas collects four bonus seconds while out at the front, but the breakaway group doesn’t get very far though and just before the final hill they had been caught. As planned pre-stage, Lunke puts in a dig for us and creates a gap to the peloton lead by De Rijke instantly. The Dutch squad looks to be attempting to set up a massed sprint finish for their man Groenwengen who is one of the strongest sprinters in the race.
Lunke attacks up the final climb in pursuit of the stage win
He collects the King of the Mountain points as he crests the climb, but has no further success. The biggest gap he had was a 32 second one which was quickly reeled in by an enthusiastic De Rijke chase, which looks to have ensured a bunch sprint here. As the sprint trains form Enger decides to hold the wheel of Groenwengen who has had the best team so far today.
However, Enger seems to have picked the wrong wheel as Groenwengen loses his leadout and drifts backwards out of the first 20 places. He waits until 2000m until the finish line before putting in a bick kick early to try and catch up. At the front of the race Mas has sprinted away from the rest of the field for Burgos and takes a dominant win, meaning he will wear the first Yellow jersey of the race tomorrow.
Mas celebrates a dominant win for Burgos, a victory which will see him wear the leader's jersey tomorrow
Meanwhile, Enger does well despite the bad leadout from Groenwengen and ends up finishing in ninth in a competitive sprinters field, which is definitely something to build on for the team. Overnight there is some good news as Roinas sits in fourth overall thanks to his bonus seconds, but we still expect more tomorrow as the finish has a decent gradient which should play to Enger’s climbing abilities.

After yesterday’s ninth the team was looking to improve and fine tune our tactics in order to produce a better result on a course suiting Enger. The uphill finish shouldn’t be too steep as to prevent a bunch sprint but the slight gradient could see our leader use his climbing ability to get some good results. The race started as planned with a group of three being let go, causing the day’s breakaway to be formed.
They weren’t allowed more than 7 minutes though and were caught with 18kms to go. Almost instantly an attack was launched by Jorge of Louletano, followeb by Squire (Ceramica) and Reihs (Cult Energy). The trio all cooperated well together and under 10kms to go the gap was 40”. That eventually was’t closed and Reihs took the win in front of the peloton after taking the right wheels and sprinting through in the final meters.
Cult Energy's Reihs celebrates his win after a group of attackers stayed away
Once again Enger finished in ninth place after dying a bit near the end, after he was in fifth at one point. We expected more, but mistakes like going too early and picking the wrong wheel can be sorted over time with experience. We move onto the final three stages hoping for better after a disappointing couple of days, where the GC battle should really heat up. Currently Roinas is our best rider in seventh, 6 seconds back while Enger is in twelth.

It's okay, if you don't have time we can deal with screenshots of the in-game results.

Volta ao Alentejo [2.2]
20/03 - 24/03
As it is flat, Stage 3 brings us another chance here in Portugal for us to improve on our two ninth places so far achieved on the same terrain. Once again we will ride for Enger, in the hope that he can bring us more results here in the GC and stage.
There is a break let go early, but that is pulled back with about 10 kilometers left. During the chase however Burgos managed to split the peloton and create echelons, but thankfully three of our riders including Enger were in the front group. With a group of 31 contesting the sprint as the final few thousand meters approached, Enger took the wheel of race leader Mas and was positioned almost perfectly with 2500m left.
Enger in fourth wheel entering the final sprint
Mas decided to go from 1500m out, and quickly stormed into the lead with a commanding margin. Enger, who was quite tired after having to cross between a dropped group of riders to the front group, could not live with his pace and decided to hold onto the wheels which were coming through.
Mas claims another victory for Burgos BH
Mas takes victory and despite fading in the last few meters, it was fairly comfortable for the Spaniard. Enger claims seventh which we will accept after several of his GC riders lost time. The sprinting field seems to be of reasonable quality so the team should look forward to a better days in the forthcoming hills.
Stage four brings us a final flat stage before the hilly GC showdown tomorrow. Once again Enger leads the team as he obviously possesses the biggest sprinting capabilities from within the team. A 5 man break is let go pretty quickly and was given a relatively large gap, which don't merit a chase as they all are well back on the GC.
Nearing the end of the stage, the sprinters teams including us decide to give chase but it was to no avail; the quintet hung on off the front to fight for victory. Mario Schoibl won the stage for Tirol after outsmarting the rest of his breakaway compatriots.
Schoibl took a surprising stage win for Tirol
Enger sprints very well and was first out of the sprinters, but sadly five had already finished. That result shows however that he is fit and ready to tackle the decisive stage tomorrow, and a great result could be wrapped up come tomorrow night. He currently sits in 8th overall.
The decisive stage arrives, and it should decide the GC. Race leader Mas isn't the best on hills and shouldn't be able to survive today so we are hoping to grasp the opportunity through Enger who proved his great form yesterday with a sixth which was first out of the sprinters.
A giant break of 12 was let away and as the final circuit was hit it was apparent they wouldn't be pulled back. Attacks came from all the leaders and eventually, with two ascents of the final climb left, Enger launches an attack. He pushes hard and grew a gap to the peloton but he needs to catch a few rider up front if he wants the good GC.
Sousa takes the win and along with it the GC
Up at the front, Rui Sousa wins the stage for Efapel after bridging up to the lead group. He sat in third overall overnight so he will take a fitting home overall victory here. David Wohrer (Tirol) takes second from the break ahead of Micael Isidoro (Louletano) who rounds out the podium.
Enger crosses the line in fourteenth
Enger finishes the stage in fourteenth, completely drained. He passed quite a few dangerous riders which earns him a respectable seventh overall, which we'll take after five hard days in Portugal. Another honourable mention should go to Lunke, who won the KOTM rakning. These results should be something more to build on in our next race, the Boucles l'Artois.

Great performance on extreme. Have to say i really enjoy this story. The difficulty makes it realistic, and a victory is way more satisfying when you have to make a perfect race to win.
How is the riders condition and moral?
Keep up the good work! |
