Another good result for the team Smile

Claudio Corti
G.P. Camaiore

On 28th February we are in Camaiore in Toskana for this 183.8 km hilly race.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-1_zpsbc6c8516.jpg

We start with almost all our best climbers. Janier Acevedo is our team leader, Tony Flaborea our sprinter and Morris Possoni, Ivone Ragnoli, Alessandra Savastano, Pietro Lunini, Fabricio Donà and Raffeale Nista are our helpers. But whoever feels to be in good shape may have the opportunity to attack.

We expect an attack of the other strong climbers in the last two climbs. So we will ride with the pack and save energy for the expected high speed finish, unless there will form a breakaway with strong riders which we would chase.

After the start there are the usual attacks and counterattacks and some strong climbers try to get away. But the peloton doesn't let anyone go who could be capable to really make it to the finish. Several groups try it but are all reeled back within minutes.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-2_zpsd28f11d5.jpg

Then after the first climb Jesse Sergent and Lloyd Mondory break away. Nobody seems to see them as a threat, and so they can build up a lead of 4 minutes after the third round. Then the peloton raises the pace and starts closing in.

After the fourth climb, the breakaway is still 2 minutes in front. Now Scuderia Mercatone Due gets active. We don't want anybody to escape and therefore dictate the speed. As Ragnoli and Lunini had reported that they have heavy legs today, they are ordered to go to the front and speed up. Savastano helps them out and also Flaborea and Donà reported they don't feel strong today. Only Acevedo seems to have good legs. So we won't try an early attack.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-4_zpsb1bff0ea.jpg

When we get to the last climb, the breakaway is only 45 seconds in front and there are only 152 riders left in the peloton. Now Flaborea and Possoni try to pull Acevedo away from the peloton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-5_zps8587ce6b.jpg

But the climb is too short for such a maneuver: Franco Pellizotti, Moreno Moser and Diego Ulissi can close the gap again and other ridres follow. Nevertheless after the crest we have a breakaway consisting of Flaborea, Donà, Acevedo, Pellizotti, Moser, Caruso, Meersmann and Ulissi riding downhill 36" in front of the peloton. So with 6 km to go I tell my men to prepare for a sprint.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-6_zps7620eead.jpg

At 2.5 km to the finish, Meersmann starts the sprint. Acevedo is already on his wheel. And also Franco Pellizotti, Moreno Moser and Diego Ulissi follow while Giampaolo Caruso, Tony Flaborea and Fabricio Donà fall back.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-7_zps01c62810.jpg

At the 1 km mark Acevedo is still going strong. Though he is no sprinter, he can follow Meersmann in second position and now starts his attack

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-8_zpse46235cc.jpg

But he hasn't the sprint ability needed to beat Meersmann: second position is all he can reach.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Camaiore1-9_zps03af7627.jpg

Still this is a very good result, and with Flaborea and Donà on 7th and 8th position, we even win the team classification.

As I told you before, my assistant manager has travelled to Malaysia with our other grout to take part on the Tour of Langkawi. Now here is his report:

Le Tour de Langkawi

Stage 1: Kangar - Kulim

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-1_zps435fcb12.jpg

The first stage from Kangar to Kulim is 162.9 km long and quite flat and has. For Simoncelli it is the first race. He is not really race-fit, but we will see what he can do. At the team meeting in the morning, Reggianini told that he wants to show something and that he is up for the mountain shirt of this tour.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-2_zps9c9f3325.jpg

Reggianini tries to break away, but doesn't succeed. A bit later, Guerrisi is luckier: At the start as usual all riders are ordered to move to the front. Guerrisi started from way behind and then came to the front at high speed just at the moment, as Sebastian Lander started his attack. Now Guerrisi, due to his already high speed, managed to follow that attack, although he is poor on acceleration. So he ends up in the breakaway together with Sebastian Lander and Omar Fraile

Reggianini again wants to follow, but the peloton doesn't let him go. So he is ordered to wait a while.

When the breakaway reaches the first intermediate sprint, as expected things calm down in the peloton. Now at 35 km after the start and at the lower speed, Reggianini tries again and this time he succeeds and can break away. We now will use Guerrisi als "spring-board" to bring Reggianini to the front. So Guerrisi is ordered to slow down and wait for Reggianini. They meet roughly in between of the peloton and the breakaway.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-3_zpsc566a5c0.jpg

Now they can relay with moderate effort and close the gap to the breakaway without problem. Afterwards the breakaway can build up the lead to almost 4 minutes and Reggianini earns a lot of mountain sprint points.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-4_zpse4f31337.jpg

Meanwhile then the Peloton started chasing and slowly reels back the breakaway. After the last intermediate sprint and with only 28 km to the finish, Reggianini and Guerrisi are ordered to slow down, relax and try to recover. The peloton is closing in at high speed and our men will need some power to hold this pace and reach the finish with the peloton.

Sebastian Lander and Omar Fraile don't want to give in and try to hold their lead to the finish line.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-5_zps73b34af5.jpg

At 19 km to the finish, Reggianini and Guerrisi are reeled back in. They now have to work hard to go the high pace of the peloton.

At the 10 km mark, the last of the breakaway is almost reeled back. Our team tries to form a sprint train, which is quite difficult due to the now high speed.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-6_zpsa2122e11.jpg

At 4 km to the finish, our train consisting of Di Gregorio, Marzocchi, Ginanni and Simoncelli is in good position. But they have only little energy left. Di Gregorio gives everything to pull them to the front. One km later he and Marzocchi start the sprint.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-7_zpsc9b636dc.jpg

Ginanni and Simoncelli follow and overtake, then on the last km give what they have left. It is an almost perfect timing and so they reach the 5th and 7th position.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi1-8_zpsc95d5706.jpg

That's another great result for Scuderia Mercatone Due: three riders in the top 10 of the gc and the mountain shirt for Reggianini!

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 2: Serdang - Kuala Kangsar

The stage of today is 127.3 km, merely flat with one mountain sprint after 30 km. Reggianini wants to win some points there to defend his mountain shirt. Therefore he will have to break away early. We hope he can do and will have enough energy left to finish with the peloton, as we expect a very high pace and a bunch sprint in the end.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi2-1_zpsa7417e96.jpg

5 km after the start, Julien Fouchard attacks. Reggianini reacts and together they break away. Later also Omar Fraile and Bert-Jan Lindeman follow. This breakaway reaches the mountain sprint with a lead of 1 ½ minutes. Not much, but enough for Reggianini to win 10 points here! And he surely looks good in his mountain shirt.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi2-3_zps65fccff9.jpg

After the mountain sprint, Reggianini relaxes and does relays only with little effort. But the peloton doesn't chase and so the breakaway gains even more advantage up to 5 minutes.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi2-4_zps372d05d6.jpg

Now Reggianini gets ambitious and wants some sprint points and bonus time too. So he stays in the breakaway and takes part in the sprints, although I tell him not to do so and save energy!

After the last intermediate sprint, Reggianini finally slows down and relaxes. But he cannot recover until he's reeled back by the peloton. And now he has to ride another 20 km to the finish line at high pace with only little energy left! We all hope it will not end up like first stage of the Tour of San Luis!

The peloton now chases hard and 10 km to the finish, the breakaway gets reeled back. Our riders have to fight and Reggianini and also Guerrisi are almost done.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi2-5_zps6e4e098a.jpg

But they manage to stay in the peloton. Meanwhile the others try to form a sprinttrain. But due to the high pace, Simoncelli loses the wheel of Ginanni who gets stuck in the traffic. So they both have to start their sprint from behind. Di Gregorio and Marzocchi are more in front, but their sprint abilities are not good enough to stay there.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Algarve/Langkawi2-6_zps54f69c5e.jpg

Ginanni again shows his quality and overtakes his companions. Though he finishes only 14th, this is quite impressive.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 3: Sungai Siput- Cameron Hifhlands

Today we have a 137.6 km mountain stage. First there is a flat part with three intermediate sprints and then comes on the second half a very long and steep climb.

This is the kind of stage we have hired Di Gregorio for. Here he can show what he's got. Furthermore we hope that Reggianini can keep up with the other climbers and defend his position and his mountain shirt. But we know that today it will be hard for them.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Langkawi3-1_zps4d87c0a9.jpg

We concentrate on the second part of the stage and want our climbers to save as much energy as possible until the climbs begin. So we will not take part in any breakaways or sprints and instead let our sprinters defend our climbers.

The race starts quiet. The first 20 km no serious attacks happen. We just roll with the peloton as planned.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Langkawi3-2_zpsb267550f.jpg

After the first intermediate sprint, three riders, Javier Francisco Aramendia, Luca Mazzanti and Grégory Rast, break away and gain an advance of up to 6 minutes.

As they past the second intermediate sprint, the peloton starts to chase them. At the beginning of the first climb, their lead is still 5 minutes, but the peloton is closing in.

Now I order Marzocchi to take the lead. I don't want the strong climbers to surprise us and just easily break away. So we keep the pace up and Marzocchi pulls us up the climb at medium effort. Halfway up the lead of the breakaway is diminished to only 2'30", and Marzocchi is still going strong.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Langkawi3-3_zps6e0313c7.jpg

But this climb is so long and the weather is so hot, that our riders run out of water. So we have to slow down and let Guerrisi bring some bottles. Then Marzocchi speeds up again

9 km before the mountain sprint, Geschke and Westra attack. Di Gregorio, Ginanni and Reggianini follow and they reach the breakaway 3 km later.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Langkawi3-4_zps9b8ef468.jpg

Then nobody is willing or able to lead and so the peloton can catch up again. Reggianini and Ginanni are almost out of power and Di Gregorio is fighting to hold the pace. It is still 38 km to the finish with another 5 km in this climb and a second climb later on. But our riders manage to reach the mountain sprint with the peloton and quite in front.

But now Jens Voigt attacks and breaks away. Sylwester Szmyd, Antonio Piedra and Sergei Pomoshnikov follow and build a chasing group. Until the next climb, the chasing group is reeled back, but Jens Voigt can even enlarge his lead to 48".

The old man seems to have good legs today! And the younger ones just can watch and wonder. Jens Voigt reaches the last mountain sprint one minute in advance of the peloton and can enjoy the downhill ride. Nobody can catch him anymore.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Langkawi3-5_zps5cb76074.jpg

Luckily, our climbers managed to stay with the peloton, which now consists of only 40 riders. So Di Gregorio, Reggianini and Ginanni can sprint with the other most dangerous opponents and will not lose time in the GC.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/Langkawi3-7_zps671a7e3d.jpg

But they are tired already and don't have the power to outsprint the others. With position 18th, 21st and 24th, they don't win or lose anything, but are happy to end up with the strong climbers. Di Gregorio is a bit disappointed though, that he could not follow Jens Voigt.

At least, thanks to the effort of Di Gregorio, who won 20 mountain points, Reggianini still leads the mountain classification. And he has taken over the lead in the young rider classification too! After all this is quite a good result for Scuderia Mercatone Due.

A steady start in Langkawi by the guys Wink

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 4: Tapah- Kapar

On today’s 24. February we will ride a 168.9 km flat stage with three mountain sprints.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi4-1_zps7f8737c7.jpg

We hope for a quite race to help our riders to recover. There are still some more stages and they are getting tiered. So after the start we relay with low effort, just to keep the pace so high, that there are not too many attacks.

Though after a while Mickaël Delage and Victor Manakov attack and pull away. So we stop relaying and I allow Ginanni to follow. He joins the breakaway and they gain an advantage of 1’35” to the first mountain sprint.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi4-2_zps19ef0ad1.jpg

Then some teams start chasing and at km 70 they are reeled back. 30 km later another group escapes: Grégory Rast, Pablo Lastras and Martin Elmiger. They fight hard, but cannot gain more than 2’30”, as the peloton is chasing hard after a short while.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi4-3_zps8b933e19.jpg

At the slope to the last mountain sprint they are reeled back in. Only Elmiger can stay in front with a lead of 15”. But then over the crest after the sprint, at the 10 km mark, everybody accelerates and the sprint trains are being formed. Also our train works fine until the 5 km mark. But on the last kilometres and in the sprint, our riders are not able to hold the speed of the best nor can hold their wheels and so don’t reach top 10 positions.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi4-4_zps0ce97811.jpg

But at least this is enough to defend the positions in the GC.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 5: Shah Alam – Genting Highlands

This stage is 124.3 km with first about 100 km flat and then a long climb to the finish.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-1_zps34f120f0.jpg

We think the last climb will be crucial. So we want our climbers to save as much energy as possible for this climb. As Simoncelli and Guerrisi are far behind in GC, they will protect and help Di Gregorio and Reggianini. Marzocchi will help Ginanni, except he feels he is in very good shape, then we might change the roles.

As usual some riders attack and forme a breakaway. Fabio Taborre, Gennadiy Tatarinov, Dominique Rollin, Romain Zingle, Adriano Malori, Garikoitz Bravo and Craig Lewis can build up al lead of up to almost 5 minutes minutes and win all the intermediate sprints. But the peloton starts reeling them back after they reach the second sprint of the day.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-2_zps84b787fe.jpg

At the bottom of the final climb, the breakaway is only 2 minutes in front. Now the teams of the climbers raise the pace.

Half way up the climb, Di Gregorio raises the pace. He has lot of energy left and wants to stay in front.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-3_zps47e4d617.jpg

Surprisingly he just breaks away. Nobody seems to follow, though he is not going at high speed. So Di Gregorio keeps his rhythm and gains a lead of 32” within 2 km. Reggianini can stay in the first chasing group with another 8 of the best climbers.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-4_zps1f9aa4db.jpg

It is looking good for Di Gregorio. But he has still 10 km to go.

At 7 km to the finish, the lead is still 38”. The chasing group has fallen apart: only John Gadret, Thomas Voeckler, Andy Schleck and Gorka Verdugo remain in the first chasing group. Reggianini is in the second chasing group, 34” arrear with four other riders.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-5_zpsae38f474.jpg

5 km to the finish, Di Gregorio is even 44” ahead of Voeckler, Gadret and Schleck and still going strong.

Reggianini is now alone, 1’54” arrears in 8th position as fifth chasing group, but only 10” in front of Thomas Löfkvist, Arnold Jeannesson, Marcos García and Christophe Riblon. As he is almost out of power, he will not be able to hold this position.

But then, with only 2.7 km to go, Di Gregorio runs out of fuel and Gaderet and Schleck close in and pass by. At the 1 km mark Di Gregorio is 24” behind Gaderet and Voeckler and only 29” in front of Schleck and Verdugo. Can he make it to the finish on third position?

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-6_zpsddfa7760.jpg

Di Gregorio fights, he gives all he’s got. And he makes it and reaches the finish 56” behind Gaderet and Voeckler, but still 24” in front of Schleck and Verdugo! That is the third position in this stage and the third position in GC! What a fantastic effort!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi5-7_zpsbbc60e9c.jpg

Also Reggianini does very well and finishes 3’48” behind in 20th position. This is still the lead in the young rider classification and the 13th position in the GC, which isn’t bad for a young rider in his first year.

The big loser today is Jens Voigt. He finishes in the group with Reggianini and therefore loses his leader shirt and ends up in 9th position of the GC.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 6: Shah Alam – Genting Highlands

On this 26th February we will ride the sixth stage of 190.6 km merely flat roads. Our goal is to hold our positions in the gc and don't waste energy, because some riders are getting tiered. Therefore we don't have any big plans and will above all watch the direct opponents in the gc and try not to let them escape. Though we might try to attack at the last slope, if someone feels strong enough.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi6-1_zpsb531e025.jpg

Today Di Gregorio wears his new mountain shirt and Reggianini took on his young rider shirt.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi6-2_zpsb7ba9928.jpg

After 15 km a breakaway forms with Artem Ovechkin, Juan Pablo Suarez, Bert-Jan Lindeman, Romain Hardy, Stefan Denifl, Salvatore Puccio and Anthony Roux. They are no danger for the top riders in gc and so the peloton lets them go.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi6-3_zpsb728ad70.jpg

As they reach a lead of 7 minutes, the peloton starts chasing. But the breakaway can make it to the last intermediate sprint with a lead of still more than a minute.

Our riders attack at the last climb 28 km to the finish but cannot break away. But due to their attack the peloton was scattered and now there are only 99 riders left in it, chasing hard the breakaway.

The last kilometers, everybody goes at full speed and five riders of the breakaway are reeled back. Only Bert-Jan Lindeman and Stefan Denifl hold a lead to the finish.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi6-4_zps797f625a.jpg

In the sprint of the peloton, our riders can't get to the front and finish 13th and behind. But we can hold the positions in the gc as well as in mountain and young rider classification.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 7: Kuantan – Dungun

Today we have a 138 km flat stage with two intermediate sprints.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi7-0_zps2d8aca04.jpg

There is the usual procedure with an early breakaway of Wouter Mol, Marco Corti, Roman Maikin, Romain Hardy, Juan José Oroz and Ryan Anderson.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi7-1_zpsf0c62665.jpg

The peloton doesn't react until their lead is 5 minutes and there are 95 km left to the finish, then they start to reel them back. Meanwhile our men are just riding with the pack and proudly show their shirts.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi7-01_zpsb9a61614.jpg

At the 20 km mark, the breakaway is still 1'19" in front. The peloton is riding at high speed now and our men are working hard. Nobody feels really well today and Guerrisi, who is helping Marzocchi, is almost out of power already.

At 6 km to the finish, the breakaway is still 58" in front, as Romain Hardy attacks and tries to get away alone.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi7-2_zps3cb956d2.jpg

But Romain Hardy cannot escape. 3 km to the finish, the 6 escapees are still 37" in front. But the sprinters in the peloton have much more power left and now close in fast. Among them are our Marzocchi, Simoncelli and Ginanni. Only Wouter Mol, Marco Corti and Roman Maikin can stay in front now.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi7-3_zps70e51ac0.jpg

And only Marco Corti makes it to the finish line first. Our best rider today is Marzocchi on 11th position. And in the GC there is no change.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 8: Kuala Terengganu - Tanah Merah

The today stage is another flat race over 174.7 km. And today will be the last mountain sprint, 50 km after the start, with 6 points to win. Because Rémy Di Gregorio has 32 points, Isacco Reggianini has 28 points and John Gadret has 25 points, the mountain shirt will stay with Scuderia Mercatone Due for sure.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi8-1_zps1b17eac2.jpg

After the start the usual attacks occur and some riders escape and get pulled back again, until after 25 km a group of five riders succeed to break away: Anthony Roux, Fabricio Ferrari, Romain Hardy, Ryan Roth and Artem Ovechkin later on gain a lead of over 7 minutes and win all the intermediate sprints.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi8-2_zpsb0502ee7.jpg

Because the escapees are far behind in the gc, nobody reacts. So Scuderia Mercatone Due starts to work and leads the peloton. Some time later also the other teams help with the chase and at the last climb of the day, the peloton has closed in to 3'50".

Due to the high pace the peloton is drawn out. Our riders are in front and Di Gregorio and Reggianini feel they have good legs today. So this looks like a good occasion for an attack.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi8-3_zps86c87d4e.jpg

Di Gregorio and Reggianini can easy break away. But the climb is too short and they can gain only half a minute of advantage. With 14 km to go and the peloton chasing hard, this is not enough.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi8-4_zps0e5bfce1.jpg

So I tell them to stop the attack and prepare to help the others in the sprint.

But at the 5 km mark, the escapees are still over 2 minutes in front. So the peloton cannot catch them anymore and Anthony Roux wins.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi8-5_zpsd646a72a.jpg

In the sprint of the peloton, Francesco Ginanni is 7th. But due to the breakaway in front, this is only 12th position overall. Bad luck for him, that the peloton didn't start chasing earlier. But with this outcome, nothing changes in the GC and Di Gregorio definitively keeps his mountain shirt.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 9: Pasir Puteh - Kuala Berang

On this 1st of March we have another relatively short flat stage of 143.6 km. So we expect another bunch sprint today.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi9-1_zps95223e66.jpg

Same procedure as every day. About 30 km after the start a breakaway has established consisting of Anthony Roux (he again!), Wouter Mol, Erick Rowsell, Juan Pablo Suarez, Julien Fouchard, Igor Boev and Javier Francisco Aramendia.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi9-2_zpsc790c9be.jpg

The peloton doesn't want to let the go too far away and so starts chasing earlier than yesterday. So the breakaway never gain more than 5 minutes.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi9-3_zps7ac4a873.jpg

At the 20 km mark the lead of the breakaway is only one minute.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi9-4_zps2e8d752a.jpg

But the escapees don't want to give in: they fight hard and at the 5 km mark, their lead is still 49"!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi9-5_zps1fae850b.jpg

Now everybody gives everything he has left, and so the breakaway is caught on the last meters in the sprint. Still Anthony Roux, Erick Rowsell and Wouter Mol end up on the first positions in front of the sprinters from the peloton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi9-6_zps843d9ee8.jpg

And again it is another day without any changes in gc.

Le Tour de Langkawi: Stage 10: Tasik Kenyir - Kuala Terengganu

Today we have the last stage of this Tour de Langkawi. It is again a flat stage over 96.1 km. We don't expect big things to happen and want only to hold our positions in GC. We will have another important race tomorrow, so we want our riders to be fit by then.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi10-1_zps10b13240.jpg

The race develops almost identical as yesterday: a group of courageous riders, e.g. Wouter Mol, Victor Manakov, Javier Francisco Aramendia, David De la Cruz and Marco Corti, escapes. Although their lead is never more than 3 minutes and the peloton chases hard in the second half, the escapees manage to stay in front.

Our men have to work hard to hold the pace of the peloton and try to get to the front for the final sprint.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y440/Buxxathor/SMD/Langkawi10-2_zps7d8d5490.jpg

It is a fight until the end, as the peloton can catch the breakaway literally on the finish line. For our riders the pace is too high. They have no chance for a top position today. But we are happy to finish the tour with a good result in the GC.
