New Look To The World Tour
The top level of professional cycling has been through the rough this season. A number of high profile doping cases have shaken the sport and dragged it through the deepest mud imaginable. The conclusion of the Lance Armstrong case resulted in a multitude of bans, temporary and permanent, and even that case surely has some surprises to come yet.
But all is not lost. Despite a noticeable number of sponsor withdrawals, no teams are going to disappear. Rabobank have left the sport as a named sponsor, despite still paying some of the teams costs. They will be replaced by Philips as main title of that squad. Radioshack-Leopard have been in real trouble following the USADA investigation and are being replaced by Mtn Dew-CNET. Vacanseoleil and DCM couldn't take another image blow and dropped out, with Airbus and DHL picking up the pieces. Finally AG2R had to drop out under growing financial strains. They are the only team yet to announce the new sponsor, but there is one in place.
And for the future of the sport the UK is stepping in. Following the major success over the last few seasons, Team Sky are setting up a Development Squad at Continental level, in much the same way Rabobank did. To top that, Africa get's its first Pro-Continental team in the shape of MTN-Qhubeka.
But with all this there will be no new teams added to the World Tour, which bitterly disappoints Argos-Shimano. The team of Kittel and Degenkolb will have to wait another season before getting the full chance to prove themselves.
Finally there is a change to the World Tour schedule. Under growing financial pressures the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will no longer be held as a World Tour event. It will be shortened to 5 days and downgraded to .HC. Taking its place will be a new American race. Details are yet to be confirmed but it will be the same length of time as Catalunya was and will take its date slot on the calendar.
PLEASE: I want some help deciding on the new American race. Please click the link and vote on where you want the new race to be based.
A) California (i.e. AToC becomes WT)
B) Colorado (i.e. USAPCC becomes WT)
C) Appalachian Mountains (i.e. "East Coast"
D) Pacific North-West
E) Missouri or Georgia

To be fair. None of them. It would've been fun to see something completly new, but I understand the huge amount of effort that would take |

It would be nice with a Route 66 stage race. You wouldn't necessarily follow the route but the race would go from Chicago to LA crossing some mountains on the way.
Just a thought |

California, but it should be moved to February to get a WT race there (or take Tour of Oman if it's too cold in California in February, I don't know)

@Ian
AToC did used to be in Feb, and i did consider it. But that would mean having to change various fitness things so that the AI would be peaking at the right times as well... frankly i don't even know how to do that so i'll keep it simpler

Courtroom #1, Court of Arbitration for Sport, Lausanne
Judge: Mr Missile, you know why you are here. We have been through the charges and both the prosecution and the defense have made their opening statements to the court.
Now let us begin this case. Mr Missile, i hand over to the prosecution.
Prosecution: Mr Missile... We are in no doubt of this case, and we will prove our side correct, don't you worry about that.
My first question. Tell me about Project Orange and how you came to be involved?

@Ian - It was that or Mr TMM, and i think i made the right call
@Anyone else who reads - I will be really looking for feedback on this idea as it is certainly something i've never come across before, and would like to know how it works. Also might be a bit slow for now as i need my team jersey before i can start doing the racing which will form the bulk of events.

I like it! Really like the doping part, could use more, but apart from that it's really interesting. Like texts, well-written. |

@fernando
Thanks for the comment. Without spoling anything, both the Vacnasoleil (soon to be Airbus) and Radioshack (soon to be Mtn Dew) cases will reappear.
More generally. Decided on Tour of the Appalachians Won't be made particularly soon but it's in the works. All routed, and for a preview you can see the profiles below.

Courtroom #1
Mr Missile: Project Orange is the name of both the Cycling team is am Manager of, and also the code name for what was our long term project.
I was approached to take charge of the team in mid-2012 when AG2R La Mondiale were confirming their exit from the sport. The current management had set up a new contract with a new sponsor, but one of the conditions was an overhaul of the squad. I had run a team as part of an amateur league called the UCPCL and apparently had done well enough to gain this job offer.
This may seem odd, as i had no proper experience as a Team Manager nor as a professional cyclist, and was incredibly young when compared to most other Team Managers. It was all part of the risk of Project Orange.
Prosecution: But what was Project Orange? What was the project?
Mr Missile: Well the project began about 6 years ago when i started to confirm rider and sponsor contracts. But things only really kicked off in January 2013 when we unveiled Project Orange to the world...

To the route still: I just think there are way too many MTFs.
Sounds interesting...

You've builded up a nice new WT, I must say!
I like the idea, and the Appelachen Tour seems great as well! Maybe a bit too tough though.
Oh, and I didn't notice yet, but...
NOOOO ARGOS

@Fernando - I am thinking if shortening up the ITT so it's just flat... not that that reduces the MTFs
@Selwink - The delaying tactics get fewer ad fewer
@Jesl - Thanks. Just taking real world situations that step further. Too tough, no, but not easy for sure
@Ian - Dopers? Never mentioned anything about doping.
