Unfortunately, not enough teams were scheduled to participate in this Belgian stage race Sad I decided to take it off my calendar after I found out only 3 other teams were scheduled to participate. Poor planning on the race organizers part I must say.. Well, time to get back to training. I may change my schedule a bit now, I am meeting with our DS tomorrow to see what the new plan is. Stay tuned!

Yea, definitely not. We don't have many strong classics riders on the squad. The only other person who can really even hang with the main group over the cobbles is Jasper Stuyven, but it's all a learning experience Wink

Tour Doon Hame

The Tour Doon Hame in Great Britain is my last European race for now, before I head back to the US and go for a few wins on home soil. But, with two flat stages that should end in a sprint finish, I really want to get a win and who knows? Maybe another GC is in the cards Wink I enjoyed my stay in Belgium and learned a lot. But for now, it's time to move on.

Team Roster:
Rudy McDermott (Leader)
Jasper Stuyven (Free Element)
James Oram (Free Element)
Antoine Duchesne
Nathan Brown
Gregory Daniel
Alexandre Darville
Tanner Putt

Tour Doon Hame Stage 1

The first stage of the race had a few bumps in the middle, but a flat finish. It was going to be a 125 km effort.

img594.imageshack.us/img594/4900/doonhamestage1.jpg

At the start a break of 5 went away. They'd only get a maximum advantage of about 3 minutes. Eventually, they were caught with about 17 km to go.

img853.imageshack.us/img853/4895/doonhame11.jpg

The race kilometers ticked down and with about 10 km to go. I was brought to the front. With 5 km to go, Nathan Brown was the only man I had with me.

img4.imageshack.us/img4/9494/doonhame12.jpg

At 2.5 km to go, Nathan was spent and I had to start my sprint from a long way out. It was too late to hop onto another train. I was in a fairly good position though.

img341.imageshack.us/img341/6135/doonhame13.jpg

Then, my legs gave out. They had nothing left to give. I started my sprint too soon and I'd have to pay the consequences. I wouldn't even crack the top 10.

img836.imageshack.us/img836/3633/doonhame14.jpg

img837.imageshack.us/img837/963/doonhame1results.jpg

I ended up in 16th. But, tomorrow is a new day so We'll see if I can change things.

Tour Doon Hame Stage 2

Stage 2 was also a bumpy one, but there was a flat finish, so hopefully I'd have a chance to improve on my finish from yesterday.

imageshack.us/a/img803/6106/doonhamestage2.jpg

It started off with a break of 6 going away and getting a maximum advantage of 6 minutes. Their lead slowly came down and the break was over at 21 km to go. From there, it was up to the sprinters like myself. AT 10 km to go, Nathan Brown and Jasper Stuyven lead me to the front of the pack.

imageshack.us/a/img507/3237/doonhame21.jpg

They both started to lose steam right as we hit the 2.5 km mark. We started to fall back in the pack a little bit, so when the sprint was launched, I was in about 12th position. But, my legs felt really good today. I followed the sprint and started gaining ground.

imageshack.us/a/img841/4774/doonhame22.jpg

I came so close, but I ran out of room. Another 100 meters and I would've had the win. I had to settle for 3rd. But I was happy with the result. It was much better than yesterdays showing.

Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium

Back in the USA for this one. A nice flat criterium, the kind of race I grew up on. This one was 79km long.

img21.imageshack.us/img21/6395/prescrit.jpg

A break of 4 went away from the start, but they were brought back with 10 km to go. I was sitting comfortably in the pack the whole race. My train was well organized to lead me to the finish.

img842.imageshack.us/img842/9038/prescrit1.jpg

Right before the final sprint, I was in a pretty good position, but I really would've preferred to be a little higher up.

img707.imageshack.us/img707/8642/prescrit2.jpg

Then the sprint was lost and yet again, I didn't have the legs. I basically stayed in the same position I was in when the sprint began. I did manage a top 10 though, finishing in 9th place.

img12.imageshack.us/img12/7726/prescritresults.jpg

My form is still building so hopefully my results will start to improve. The consistent top 10s are okay, but I really want another win. Next on my calendar is the Tour of the Battenkill, which is one of my favorite races and I'm really looking for a good result Cool

Tour of the Battenkill

The Tour of the Battenkill was my favorite race as an amateur so I really wanted a good result coming in as a pro. The race is 204km and goes over both dirt and pavement.

imageshack.us/a/img21/2900/battenkill.jpg

Team Roster:
Rudy McDermott (Leader)
Lawson Craddock (Free)
Gavin Mannion (Free)
Ryan Eastman
Antoine Duchesne
Jasper Stuyven
Connor O'Leary
Nathan Wilson

The race started off with a 6 man breakaway getting free and getting a 6 minute advantage. Meanwhile, the peloton rolled on and as I passed over the first dirt section, I reminisced about my races here as an amateur.

imageshack.us/a/img560/6631/battenkill1.jpg

The peloton chased the breakaway and eventually they were caught at the 20km mark. Almost as soon as they were caught though, the counter attacks began. Some riders didn't want to settle the race in a sprint, but the fire they started was almost immediately extinguished and they were pulled back into the group.

imageshack.us/a/img339/4908/battenkill2.jpg

Then it was time for my team to do some work and they brought me to the front with the finish line approaching.

imageshack.us/a/img836/3271/battenkill3.jpg

Eventually my teammates pulled off and I was left to fend for myself. With the finish line in sight, I started my sprint and was in 4th on the road.

imageshack.us/a/img580/1021/battenkill4.jpg

I put myself into the red zone and passed one man. I kept pushing and pushing, but I just didn;t have the power to match the other riders. Yoeri Havik was able to take the win and Nico Eeckhout, the leader of the Continental Tour, came in second. I took third, a good result I should say.

imageshack.us/a/img90/2219/battenkill5.jpg

imageshack.us/a/img402/7508/battenkillresults.jpg

I was pretty happy with the result. A podium is always a good thing. My form is getting better and better and I really think I can get a win in my next couple of races.

Ronde van Noord-Holland 22/04/13

After my short stint back home in the USA, the team took the trip to Holland for a couple of one day races. The first, the Ronde van Noord-Holland, is extremely flat and should come down to a sprint. I've got my sights set on a good finish.

img203.imageshack.us/img203/8647/rondenord.jpg

Team Roster:
Rudy McDermott (Leader)
Jasper Stuyven (Free)
James Oram (Free)
Connor O'Leary
Nathan Brown
Ryan Eastman
Gregory Daniel
Alexandre Darville

At the start of the race, we tried getting a rider into the break. Connor O'Leary made an initial attack which only stuck for a few kilometers. He tried to go again, but didn't have the legs and we missed out on the break. The leaders were 5 men strong. And strong they proved to be. It looked like at about 9km to go that they would be caught, but they all attacked again and gained a little more time. By the time 3km to go hit, they had about a 20 second advantage. Even with the breakaway still ahead, Ryan Eastman brought up to the front to try to catch them in the sprint.

img850.imageshack.us/img850/5165/rondenord1.jpg

Ryan looked really good and, even though he was my leadout man, was able to stay with me even though I pulled around him. The breakaway was still ahead though and it would take a lot to catch them. I accelerated past the other sprinters from the peloton and even one member of the breakaway, but I couldn't catch the rest of them. I finished 5th on the day, with another American, Robert Bush of La Pomme Marseille taking the win after surviving in the break.

img339.imageshack.us/img339/8082/rondenord2.jpg

img442.imageshack.us/img442/3771/rondenordresults.jpg

Another strong performance by me, and also by Ryan Eastman. It was his best result of the season and we're all really happy for him. If it weren't for the breakaway though, I think I could've won, but close doesn't count. My form is really coming on and I feel better and better everyday so I'm really pumped to see what I can accomplish in my next few races, including my main goal this season, the AMGEN Tour of California.
