That was the closest victory I've ever seen in pcm. Ventoso was litteraly in front up until the last few feet... I already thought I didn't make it

TOUR DE SAN LUIS 2013
Stage 03: La Punta - Mirador del Potrero

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/sl3_03_zps91e21043.jpg

Welcome back in Argentina. Today we will be heading into the mountains for the fisrt time. The climb today will be nice and steady, not too hard. After a tricky downhill the riders will face an uphill finish. Let's see if Haussler can make a triple today or if some else will steal the show.
And off they go.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00013_zps8a397417.jpg

Early on a group of 6 get away containing Taborre (VIN), Boivin (CAN), Nowak (CCC), Baez (EPM), Chiarini (AND) and Capecchi (MOV).
They quickly gained time, as the peloton sat back.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00014_zps6c68a28c.jpg

The first sprint of the day
Spoiler
1st Boivin (CAN)
2nd Taborre (VIN)
3rd Baez (EPM)

On the first KOM it was Nowak (CCC) who attacked first to get a couple meters between him and the others. But his attack was just too early.
Spoiler
1st Capecchi (MOV)
2nd Chiarini (AND)
3rd Boivin (CAN)

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00015_zpsfa603b1a.jpg

Half way trough the race the peloton upped their speed to wheel the breakaway back in. With several teams doing the work their gap melted away quickly.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00016_zpsd303a619.jpg

At the summit the breakaway still fought strong.
Spoiler
1st Chiarini (AND)
2nd Capecchi (MOV)
3rd Taborre (VIN)

And now on the descent they had some time to recover.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00017_zpsecb3cca1.jpg

at the bottom of the descent they had already lost half their lead. Nevertheless they sprinted out the final intermediate sprint of the day.
Spoiler
1st Chiarini (AND)
2nd Baez (EPM)
3rd Taborre (VIN)

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00018_zps7355e370.jpg

Just 50 kms to go the first rider struggled to keep up the high pace of the peloton. Including yesterdays second Ventoso (MOV). They would lose over 12 Minutes in the end.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00019_zpsed4f6f79.jpg

With the peloton quickly closing in some riders from the breakaway got nervous. Nowak (CCC) and Baez (EPM) tried their luck to lose the others and pick it up a notch to make it as a duo.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00021_zps59faa954.jpg

But with just 3 km to go their dream was over.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00022_zpsfde3f3ad.jpg

With just a couple km to go Löfkvist was looking good, trying to get away slowly but steadily... And with just a little more than 1 km to go he took his chances, attacking early on preventing a sprint on the line.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00023_zps796a7173.jpg

Velits (OPQ) followed his attack. looks like on of them will win it... But there comes Chavez and Amador. Löfkvist on his limit here.

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00024_zpseeda3eba.jpg

Victory for Velits (OPQ)!

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-10_00025_zpsbbc42083.jpg

Just in front of Paulinho (TST) who came from way back in the last moment. Chavez (COL) comes in third. Right in front of Löfkvist. His attack was just not powerful enough to create a big enough gap.
Good news for Haussler though. He will be keeping his orange jersey yet another day.

Nice to see getting so close to the win Wink

As I'm still struggling with hills and mountains I'm happy with the result. Hope I'll get some more experience this year (and a couple of wins) so I can up the difficulty to hard next season in WT Wink

No Tirreno-Adriatico this year. (26.01.2013)

Even tho IAM Cycling currently got a couple very good results their wildcard for Tirreno-Adriatico got rejected. The Organizators decided to give the only wildcard to Vini Fantini - Selle Italia. Maybe IAM Cycling will have more luck next year.

fcancellara
Bad news with the wildcard, but 2/3 wins so far in San Luis, that's great!

TOUR DE SAN LUIS 2013
Stage 04: San Luis - San Luis

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/sl4_03_zps7306b28d.jpg

Today's stage will be the Time Trial. We spoke with Heinrich Haussler this morning. Let's hear what he had to say about the race today:

"Well, it's no secret I'm not the best at time trials. I probably will wear the leader jersey for the last day today. With todays time trial and two mountain stages to come our team will most likely shift towards another leader for the rest of the tour. I'm happy that the team worked so hard for me the last couple days. I still will try my very best today. You never know what'll happen!"

25.media.tumblr.com/b11e06971031d18a6bf1c4a7073bd5cd/tumblr_mk61e3JXQQ1rpkumdo1_1280.jpg

And with that it's time to start the race!

The first rider from IAM Cycling was Larsson. He's most likely the best againt the clock from their team.
But on the first intermediate time it didn't look good for him. Being 46' behing Stannard (SKY), who led the field for a long time up until then. But it's never over until the finish line. He made up a lot of thime in the last 10 Km, finishing just 3'' as 3rd behind Malori (LAM) and Stannard (SKY).

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-11_00001_zps8db8943f.jpg

Bandiera and Pliuschin couldn't compete with the best, falling behind.

Then came the man everybody from IAM were waiting for: Thomas Löfkvist. The hopes were high for the Swede. But if he wanted to get a shot at the GC he'd have to finish strong today. He was a little behind in the intermediate time, but he still had the chance to finish strong, just as Larsson did. And he did! Löfkvist finishes as strong 6th. With just 13'' behind.
But there were still 15 riders to come...

Next in line from IAM was Pelucchi. However, it wasn't his day as he crossed the line as 80th. Wiht 1'32 behind.

Just 10 riders left...
But up until the last 4 riders there was noone who would be of any serious competition. It was Paulinho (TST) who was just 6'' behind on the intermediate.
Short after Velits (OPQ) arrived at the intermediate with a new time to beat, just 3'' faster than Stannard (SKY).

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-11_00006_zps86ffdaf1.jpg

Haussler started last. In the intermediate time he was already behind and it was up to damage control on how much time he'll lose today.

Paulinho (TST) on the finish line... 6th with 9'' behind!

i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r798/areolys/pcm12/2013-05-11_00008_zpse2883b67.jpg

With just Velits (OPQ) and Haussler left on the track all was looking good for Löfkvist.
And Velits (OPQ) was next to finish with a new best time. Gaining 19'' on Löfkvist.
With Haussler coming in as 17th with 39'' behind we have a new leader. Velits (OPQ) is the new man to beat.

Bringing strongest squad on this type of race isn't so good. Again,it's on you.
Story has potential, try to be shorter with reports.

sutty68: Yeah 2 times 1st and 2 times 4th. Wonder what's going to be next...

fcancellara: The GC is always updated on the tour main post: here. But I will post the current GC at the end of each stage as well in the future.

admirschleck: I'm currently ranked as Continental team wich makes it hard for me to plan the season. With all the wildcards I don't expect to get many if any. My main goal is to get as many points in as little races as possible for this season.
It's also a trial and error season as I'm just starting to play again after my winter break Wink
I will try and keep the reports shorter tho. (but I always tend to ramble, just like now...)

Velits seems strong at the moment, hopefully one of your riders can beat him in the next stages Wink
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish
