Stage 3 of the Driedsaage van West-Vlaanderen
We decided it was futile trying to get Jollet to the end of todays stage, so he'd have to fend for himself. We expected him to survive about 75% of the stage.
With only the last mountains sprint containing points, Brouzes would be saving his energy for that, and so someone else would be going with the break today.
Morizot was the charged man, and so off he went in an initial group of 7, which was down to 6 by half way. [img-l]https://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/DvWVstg3Break.jpg[/img-l] Behind in the peloton, as soon as Wiesenhof hit the gas to reel back the breakaway, the 65kph winds ripped the field apart. With Drujon placed right at the front, to start with, this was no problem, but as the race progressed, he kept getting misplaced, and with the rest of the team unable to protect him much longer, he was by himself with 20km to go.
He still managed to get in the only real train of the day, but with only 4km left, the wind took it's toll, and Drujon got dropped.
The win for the day again went to in form Pollack.
Brouzes was dropped before managing to get any more mountains points, so he'd settle for 2nd in that classification.

Paris - Troyes
An important race for us as it was our sponsors 3rd goal of the season to win this race.
[IMG-l]https://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/Paris-TroyesRiderlist.jpg[/IMG-l]Lucky for us, all the riders were feeling good and happy after the successful build up to this race, and we fielded the strongest riders we had.
The profile looked like a mini-classic to us, and so the plan would be either for Drujon to wait for the sprint and pray he had good enough legs to beat the AG2R guys, or to go for the early break, and when that was caught, attack a lot.
Drujon therefore got in the early break of 10 riders, which was still looking fairly strong approaching the final 50km. The lead was down to 3minutes, but was not coming down very fast after the initial drop.
On the first of the two final climbs, the break still had a slight minute and a half lead, and with Drujon getting distanced slightly, Brouzes had a dig off the front.
[IMG-r]https://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/digofffront.jpg[/IMG-r]
He quickly bridged across to Drujon, who, aware he was coming, had sat up to wait, and helped increase the gap with one last final pull.
On the remaining climb of the day, just 15km from the line, Levarlet and Morizot also had a go. Brouzes had also caught up with the front group.
Levarlet and Morizot managed to relay past the remaining breakaway riders, and caught up with Brouzes in the final stretch. Levarlet when he opened the tank passed Brouzes to claim the win, with Morizot and his awful sprint managing to hang on to the 3rd place. He appeared far happier with the result then either Levarlet or Brouzes! With the result, Auber 93 has firmly stamped its authority on the French Continental scene. Pulling off a 1-2-3 with French riders, on French soil is something the Sponsors were over the moon about.
The results are as follows:
Overall:
1 Guillaume Levarlet AUBER 93 4h34'16
2 Niels Brouzes AUBER 93 s.t.
3 Florian Morizot AUBER 93 s.t.

62 Damien Gaudin AUBER 93 s.t.
89 Thierry Jollet AUBER 93 + 11'13

On hard as well
22/3/07
Maxime Mederel has mended fully and begins the process of getting ready to race again. His fitness has taken a big hit from the broken hip, but we feel confident he should be back in business before long.

Classic Loire Atlantique
Another race where the team were looking for a good showing.
With this in mind, we got Morizot in the break which managed to stay away until the 20km to go mark. Gaudin counter-attacked at this point and got caught just 3km from the line. His partner in crime managed to stick it out all the way. Drujon managed to sprint to 10th, so not all was lost. Jollet once again got dropped when the pace picked up.
nb. I clicked the wrong button at the end of the race - hence no screenshots

La Roue Tourangelle
Again Drujon would be looking to get a good place in the sprint, and Gaudin would be looking for the oportune moment to attack near the end of the race.
We decided to send Jollet in the break today to see if he could do better off the front than off the back.
Things were looking good until the break started to increase its pace. At which point Jollet broke, and went backwards, so far that he shot through the back of the peloton and ended up with a nice solo ride to the finish.
With 15km to go, Gaudin hit the front again with an attempt to stay away this time for good. He managed to get a good 30second gap, but with his sprinting stat only at 54, he just couldn't keep away from the sprinters as they started to go for it.
Boasson Hagen is already showing his potential with a good classy 2nd place.

Cholet - Pays du Loire
A smaller squad will be going to this race as the main sprinting squad will be off to contest the flat Tour de Normandie.
The Classics riders were racing this in preparation for the coming cobble races.
Pioline was the first to get in a break, but obviously the break was too strong as it was quickly chased down. Diguet was the next to go, and he got in a break of 5 riders. The gap was quickly brought down over the few lumps in the middle of the race.
With 40km to go, the pack was breaking up as riders couldn't get back up to the front to shelter from the wind.
This left us with Gaudin and Brouzes in the front group of 35 or so. A group of 4 formed up the road of the stronger riders from the Pro Tour squads in the race. This left the chase upto the Rabobank continental squad, who couldn't bring it back. Gaudin tried to leave the group, but didn't have it in him. He did however manage to pick the pace up even more and drag back in a rider in between both groups.
The sprint for first was contested in the front group.
Brouzes a rather average sprinter was feeling pretty good and so followed a few wheels to a pleasing 7th place. Gaudin rolled in in 17th place.

Tour de Normandie
We're taking our entire sprinting contingent to this tour with the hope of getting some top 5 places. From our previous races, this could appear to be quite a task to achieve. In all hopes we are aiming for a top 10 overall GC placing, but this is also going to be hard to achieve as the first TT could well make or break that hope for us.
Jollet and Morizot are also looking to level up and so we are hoping that they will become better riders for it.
I will be doing an overall race review at the end rather than every single stage.

The races took a while to do, but here they are:
n.b. J.Galland, F.Morizot and S.Tronet all leveled up to level 2 exp, but none had noticably great increases.

Route Adelie de Vitre
The "classics crew" would be visiting this one being headed up by D.Gaudin as usual.
An early break went, sparked by N.Brouzes.
Due to all major teams being present in the break, it wasn't chased down and unfortunately Brouzes was not race fit and so got dropped. He was later caught 300m from the line.
The winner came from Francaise de Jeux surprisingly...

The remainder of the squad went over to race Les Boucles de l'Artois
With only 7 members racing, we decided not to send anyone with the break, rather do a bit of pulling on the front to keep the gap to a minimum. When it was obvious no other team was going to bring the break back, we upped the pace until the penultimate hill where M.Drujon went off solo to claim 5th place, having overtaken a dropped breakaway member.

From one disappointment to one amazing result.
GP de la Ville de Rennes
[img-l]https://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/gpdelavilleteam.png[/img-l]
A completely flat course, so good preparation for the classic riders and a great race for my sprinters, who have of yet, failed to get many good results.
With such a long flat race in mind, we all knew it would come down to a sprint finish, but none the less we sent someone with the breakaway, and got some other team bods to do some relaying so that the breakaway rider would have a free ride. This seemed to be a good tactic, as the gap started to fall, Brouzes started to do some hard turns on the front of the break, causing it to shatter apart and it was looking good with 8km to go.
It was not to be however, and he got caught with just 5km left to go. For once, Drujon had managed to get on an ok wheel, and with a large number of crashes, one f which has broken one of my lesser talented riders' ribs, he was looking good.
Jollet also managed to get on a rubbish wheel, which was a surprise as this was the first race he's managed to finish at the front of a race for.
Amazingly, running into the last few corners, the wheel Drujon was sat on failed to go, so he quickly changed his tactics and went after number one. The speed he got across was astonishing, we all thought he'd sail past in the last km, but he seemed to slow a load when trying to go past.
We were over the moon to settle for 2nd however! B)

Coming Up:
Circuit Cycliste de la Sarthe
3 flat stages, 1 criterium and 1 ITT should provide ample time for gaining full race fitness prior to the cobbled classics, as well as allowing M.Drujon to stretch his legs further, and T.Jollet to gain a bit more road experience.

A team of 6 would be going to the race. Half sprinters, and the other half the classics riders.
Stage one ended of course in a mass sprint, in which M.Drujon managed to jump from wheel to wheel to improve his position.
