Thanks guys!
A mountainous stage today, which should be one of the biggest deciding factors of the GC. It does however require a good hill stat to win. Favourites include Kiryienka (Sky), Txurruka (Caja) and our rider Tiernan – Locke. Kiryienka proved though yesterday that he is not in form, so it may be another name on top of the podium today.
The break is formed quickly with Lander (BMC) the instigator. The others are Hulsmans (Vini), Juul-Jensen (Saxo Bank), Aramendia (Caja), Fernandez (Garmin) and Ubeto (Lampre). Some familiar faces and it’s also strange to see sprinter Fernandez up there. Maybe he’s trying to get some points for a Green Jersey campaign Sagan-esque.
It looks as Fernandez is going for a points jersey campaign. He wins the sprint ahead of Ubeto and Lander respectively. Out of the others only Juul-Jensen could be bothered to sprint, the other two, Hulsmans and Aramendia, don’t try at all.
Meanwhile in the peloton the gap is kept to a small 2’30” thanks to the controlled pacemaking by FDJ for leader Roy. The best placed rider in terms of GC up the road, Fernandez, is only 2’21” behind Roy so that explains why they are being so cautious.
The day’s big climb has already begun by the time we reach the second sprint. This time Lander takes it, with Ubeto second and Juul-Jensen fighting Fernandez off for third who can’t seem to sprint as well on the 2% gradient.
FDJ and Europcar control the peloton with the gap holding at 2’30” with 40kms to go. The leaders have started moving into the first 30 positions, and the pace has increased.
20kms to and FDJ and Europcar have started pulling furiously at the front of the bunch. The break however are still holding a 2’30” gap and have gone past the first KoM point! Juul-Jensen took it in front of Lander and Ubeto. The road has really started to kick up now with gradients of 9%
When the road hits 10% Tiernan–Locke ramps up the pace at the front with an attack. Kolobnev and Siutsou follow but they get dropped by Tiernan-Locke straight away and caught. Roy attacks behind as Tiernan-Locke quickly gets a 30” gap in front. The break have started to crack and are only a minute up the road.
Tiernan-Locke catches and overtakes the last of the break with Roy behind. He takes third at the KoM sprint on the way past meaning he now leads that competition. The gap is 1’30” to the peloton. Roy is 30” behind still riding past the break. 15kms to go and the road has started to flatten out.
5k to the finish and the road is completely flat. Tiernan-Locke is riding strong and has a gap of a minute back to Roy and breakaway survivor Hulsmans. The peloton is a further 1’00” back and is not chasing. It is looking like there will be a second win for Tiernan-Locke!
With only a kilometer to the line he has a gap of 1’20” back to the Roy group and 1’50” bact to the peloton where the sprint is being set up.
And Tiernan-Locke takes his second win of the tour. A great ride and the clock is ticking back to the peloton. This ride will surely put him back in GC contention with him being only 3’00” behind Roy at the start of the stage.
Roy finishes second 1’14” behind Tiernan-Locke, which keeps his jersey safe. Hulsmans is third after surviving a day in the break. A great ride from him.
Janse Van Rensburg leads home the peloton for fourth. He caps off a great day for Standard Bank – Aegon. Rodriguez (Andrioni) finishes fifth. The favourites group also comes in 1’14” behind after being given the same time as Roy and Hulsmans.
Sorry, export failed

Another great win! If JTL keeps performing like this, he could perhaps even get a nice GC-spot!

He is currently 1'38" behind so maybe a top 10 if there is a great performance on the next stage
And I didn't know I could produce these results on extreme, it's weird. Probably just a fluke

Today is more of a pure climber’s stage than yesterday, with two smaller climbs before the Mirador del Sol mountain finish. It is 7km in length and reaches gradients of above 10% near the finish. This is the final place for riders to mount a GC challenge. Jeremy Roy seems to be on good form in the leader’s jersey for FDJ so he is one of the favorites. Other riders expected to do well are BMC’s Dom Nerz and Joe Dombrowski who looks to have been given Sky’s leader role with Vasily Kiryienka off form.
120kms to go
After a few attacks the break is formed. It contains Suarez (Colombia), Saramontins (IAM), De Marchi (Cannondale), Garzelli (Vini). Schar (BMC), Smukulis (Katusha) and Felline (Andrioni). Saramontins and Suarez both have been in breaks in earlier stages. Schar takes the early KoM points ahead of Felline and Smukulis in second and third respectively.
65kms to go
FDJ are keeping the gap at 4’00” to the break but they aren’t as urgent as yesterday because the pbest positioned GC rider in the break is Saramontins and he is 5’53” behind Roy. Meanwhile up front De Marchi took the first Intermediate sprint uncontested.
24kms to go
FDJ have stopped chasing now that Roy’s jersey is safe and the gap is stuck at 3’45” up to the seven man break. It looks as if they will contest the stage today if they can work well. Suarez took the second sprint point by relaying at the right time but the break doesn’t seem bothered today.
8kms to go
Strangely there is a KoM point at the bottom of the final climb. This doesn’t seem to worry Garzelli though as he takes the sprint for first. The gap is at 3’00” to the peloton as the gradient starts to pick up.
5kms to go
We are controlling the pace at the front of the peloton, keeping a high tempo thanks to Goos and Van Niekerk. Attacks are coming left right and center but no significant ones have come yet. Riders are getting dropped at the back of the peloton. The break has started to fight for the stage win and are still 3’00” up the road!
3kms to go
The gradient hits 12% and Nerz attacks! We are still controlling the pace and the gap to the break has dropped to 2’10”. It looks as though they won’t get caught however. Nerz has a 10” lead but it doesn’t last as he is pulled back,
2kms to go
We stop riding at the front when Nerz comes back. In the KoM jersey Tiernan–Locke increases the pace and only race leader Roy can follow him. The pair have a gap of 20” to the peloton and the break is a further 2’00” up the road.
Finish
Saramontins wins the sprint in the break and wins the stage. Behind Roy has dropped Tiernan-Locke and has a 10” gap back to him. The peloton is a further 35” back. Tiernan-Locke is fading and the gradient seems a bit steep for him.
Finish
Tiernan-Locke finishes just in front of the peloton with Rubiano (Andrioni) and is given a gap of 21” moving him to eleventh on the GC. Roy finishes 14” before them meaning he extends his GC lead ahead of the final flat day tomorrow. Tiernan-Locke finishes ninth on the stage, which is another good ride.
Janse Van Rensburg finishes in a surprisingly big peloton, maintaining his high GC placing. He is currently eighth but can improve his position with bonus seconds tomorrow.

Selwink: 11th is good, but I am even more happy with Janse Van Rensburg's placing
Sutty: He only really lost time to Roy
Today is the final stage of the Tour de San Luis. The GC has already been decided over the Mountains so it is a cruise in to Juana Koslay on the flat. The main favourites are the best sprinters which include Hinault (IAM), Favili (Lampre) and Fernandez (Garmin). Our hopes today is to use bonus seconds to move Janse Van Rensburg and Tiernan-Locke up the GC standings.
130kms to go
Tiernan-Locke and Janse Van Rensburg attack from the gun. Tiernan-Locke takes the Mountain sprint, ensuring his win in that competition. He drops off after that but Janse Van Rensburg carries on and takes the opening intermediate sprint, moving him into provisional sixth place overall ahead of Kennaugh and Rubiano! After this he slows down so the peloton can catch him.
100kms to go
Soon after the day’s break forms. It contains Trofimov (Katusha), Aramendia (Caja) and Taciak (CCC). The best placed rider in terms of GC is Aramendia at 8’05” so they are not a threat. It is also worth noting that this is Aramendia’s second breakaway appearance of the race after Stage 5. They have a gap of 2’40” that is growing.
55kms to go
The gap is at 4’00” thanks to us, Cannondale and FDJ. Interesting to Cannondale chasing, maybe Haedo feels good? Meanwhile at the front of the race Taciak takes the second sprint because nobody bothered to sprint.
7kms to go
IAM have set up a train for Hinault at the front of the race. The break has been swept up, but bad news for us is that tired from his earlier efforts Janse Van Rensburg has slipped back into the peloton and is finding it hard to regain positions.
5kms to go
At the front Lampre and IAM have set up trains and are riding well. Janse Van Rensburg is miles behind and won’t be featuring today. A shame for us but his sixth in the GC was more important in the end.
1km to go
Hinault looks to have gone too early and Haedo is coming strong with Fernandez, Favili and Duque among others just behind.
Finish
Haedo raises his arms in the air. He wins the stage in front of Hinault in second and Fernandez in third. Roy clinches the GC by 47” to Dekker. Janse Van Rensburg and Tiernan-Locke finish safely in the pack meaning they take sixth and eleventh in the GC respectively.

Nice start for the team, hope this is just the begin
A shame that Jonathan lost 3 min in one of the flat stage he could easily win the GC. Anyway Reinardt did a very good race finishing 6th in GC. |

Thanks all, here is the January Review
| Race | Winner | Team | Australian Championship | Matthew Goss | Orica - Greenedge | Australian Championship ITT | Michael Rodgers | Team Saxo - Tinkoff | New Zealand Championship ITT | Jesse Sergent | RadioShack - Leopard | New Zealand Championship | Greg Henderson | Lotto - Belisol | Santos Tour Down Under | Anthony Roux | FDJ | Tour de San Luis | Jérémy Roy | FDJ | New Zealand Cycle Classic | Kai Reus | Cyclingteam De Rijke - Shanks | Grand Prix la Marseillaise | Karsten Kroon | Team Saxo - Tinkoff |
Individual:

Kai Reus leads the individual rankings after winning the New Zealand Cycle Classic. Nico Eeckhout is second after finishing second overall there as well.
We are in 3rd and 4th with Jonathan Tiernan-Locke and Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg. This is because the World Tour took most of the points in San Luis. A great start for us.
Team

After a strong showing in New Zealand An Post lead the rankings by 6 points. We are in second because of our riding in San Luis which proves how well we did.
IAM are eight points behind, joint third with Cyclingteam De Rijke – Shanks. IAM are there because of Saramontins and Hinault, while De Rijke must thank Kai Reus.
Jonathan Tiernan-Locke
Jonathan winning stage three of the Tour de San Luis
With two wins this month, Jonathan Tiernan-Locke had a great Tour de San Luis. If he hadn’t lost time on stage one he would have easily won the overall, which is a great achievement. He also took the team’s first ever jersey by winning the King of the Mountains classification. Well done Jonathan.
