Guys. I am sorry. My computer is having issues with PCM12, (i've had to system restore twice) I'll try and get my friend to play the game a bit so we've got some results, otherwise this thread might have to be adjourned till late march. Just wanted to explain the lack of posting (also girlfriend was here over the weekend, partners and pcm dont settle all that well together).

No problem mate, hope you'll fix it soon!

Also, real life, and especially girlfriends, should be considered a lot more important than a PCM story Wink

Hello hello?

Well... here I am. 3 days ago I punctured both tubs on my one bike, and the gears are skipping on the other one. Both are jobs too big for me to be bothered right now. I've no summer job, I haven't been keeping up with cycling, and my girlfriend is in China for a month.

I'm free! I need a cycling fix! Santé - Val D'Isére beware >Grin

...the team folded.

It didn’t even make it a month. A cataclysmic explosion at an Evian water plant diverted funding from the Val d’Isere municipality, whilst the finances of Santé fell into ill health. Vernie Kunze’s second team was thrown into a noisy ignominy.

The team was thrown to the winds, each finding work where and when they could. Koby Powers became a personal trainer in Los Angeles, Ole Hole was forced to find work as a cage fighter, Agrican LaFramboise opened up a rhubarb plantation, and Bep de Roo became a wildlife photographer (specialising in snails)
The only success story of the lot was Harold H. Hockenberry, who became a businessman in New York, eventually becoming Vice Chairman of one of the largest multinational companies in the world. He died at 37 in a tragic helicopter accident, when he tried to get his mistress to steer the machine with her breasts.

Vernie Kunze and Tommeke Thommikkssen were forced to throw their lot in with football. Each going off and managing a team in one of the top divisions of the world. Despite Tommeke Thommikkssen signing with a new club (and receiving a large compensation settlement) on average every 6 ½ months, they lead successful but unfulfilled lives. I mean, it’s not cycling is it?

On the 24th October 2046, Vernie Kunze was visited by a strange man. He announced himself as the devil (and looked uncannily like Johann Bruyneel) and said to Vernie that he could take his whole life back, and return to the start of Sante – Val d’Isere. Without hesitating, Vernie agreed.

13th January

We're on a training camp here in Telford, the boys have been getting to know each other and sampling the town's infamous night life. Jeroen Bakker says he's ill. He's been sharing a room with Kento Kouki, who is clearly not impressed.

14th January

Jeroen Bakker is fully healed. Apparently Kento sat up all night shouting Japanese into his ear until he promised him he was better, and telling him he wasn't eating enough fresh vegetables. Jeroen swears he heard this https://www.youtub...0-2lzA7_Cg in his sleep.

When I talked to him today, Kento denied everything.

Ok, so here comes the first race of the season! The Ruta de San Luis. We're taking Bep de Roo as our leader, mostly just to get our bearings with racing as a team. We'll practice the sprints with Manfred Sys. Ion Podgaetschii and Marnix Dirikx are here to get some early season legs for the cobbles, and should be able to help Manfred. Finally, after getting off to a roaring start, Kento Kouki and Jeroen Bakker are here as domestiques, and are of course sharing a room again.

Funny, when I saw him today, Jeroen was looking rathe pale.

Ruta de San Luis

A great race for the team at the Ruta de San Luis, although not without incident!

Stage 1
Manfred Sys
was blocked by Jerome Pineau in the sprint. Finished 11th (Needless to say Jerome found his saddle smeared with energy gel on the next stage)

Stage 2
Manfred Sys crashed at 50km to go, the whole team apart from our leader went back to help him. Unfortunately, Bakker and Kouki (whether through exhaustion or unfortunate misunderstandings) refused to pull him along, and the group finished 4min behind the peloton.

Stage 3
Marnix Dirikx went on the attack, mostly for KoM points. He was first over the 1*Cat (go ride one, those things are big), and held on to 400m before the finish, where he was swallowed by Vasily Kiriyenka. Banana Style. 8th on the stage.

Stage 4
A great time trial by Bep de Roo, our GC man, moving him up into 3rd overall.

Stage 5
Given Bep isn't a great climber, our aim was to neutralise the stage on day 5. Again Marnix went on the attack, and secured 1st in the KoM rankings. Again he was caught, this time at 3km to go. Chris Sorensen won the stage, but no major time gaps.

Stage 6 and 7
Manfred Sys is still providing excuses for a poor sprint.

Results

Bep de Roo 3rd GC
Marnix Dirikx 1st KoM

News!

Manfred Sys has won stage 5 of the GP de Besseges!
Despite an otherwise miserable day for our leaders (Øle Høle crashed out [enough to make me drop the career right now in of itself] and Seppo Hjerpe having an awful day at the office), the stalwart German hung on to the peloton over the climbs on this hilly stage, where most of the sprinters were (repeatedly) detonated.

To anyone who thinks this is the start of something great, I warn you: In the flat sprint finish, Linus Gerdemann finished 4th (although Linus did beat Tom Leezer).

Ahmed Isaksson fell off his bike in the last 200m. He says he got elbowed, but we think he was so happy to see Manfred win that he fainted...

Full race report to come!

GP de Besseges

A win at GP de Besseges! Here's the full race report:

Stage 1
We knew Manfred Sys had it in him to win a stage when we came here this week. The team lead him out perfectly. It was us on one side of the road, and FDJ on the other. Unfortunately, Manfred just couldn't find as big a kick at the end, and finished 5th.

Stages 2,3 and 4
Poor positioning, lead-out men flagging, and untimely hills (Not to mention a liberal sprinkling of Ben Swift) robbed us of any good performances through the mid part of the race. Manfred failed to creep into the top 10. The boys did however manage to showcase us in the break each day, picking up KoM and sprint points. That grand prize though, evaded them.

Stage 5
What a day! Awful weather and high winds made the racing very difficult. The profile had just one large climb in the middle of the race. We took the peloton over it very hard, just enough for Manfred to cling on. On the descent however, one of our GC hopefuls, Øle Høle, was brought down in a big crash and had to spend the rest of the race chasing on. Thankfully he had no injuries.
Our plan for the finale was to string the group out as much as possible, to prevent sprinters who weren't as capable as Manfred from jumping him. With that in mind, we hit the front from 15km to go. The guys worked admirably, with the exception of our other GC contender, Seppo Hjerpe. He just wasn't having a good day, and was almost dropped.
Regardless of our bad luck, Manfred was able to keep the strong men behind him, and finished the stage off in first place, heading Geraint Thomas and Yann Huguet.

First of many?

Stage 6
With no time gaps on any stage so far, and the last stage being a 20km time trial, those seconds accumulated in breakaways started to look rather valuable. Our best placed rider was Edik Komalchevskiy, and though he lost about 40sec in the time trial in the end, that was enough to leave him in the top 25 overall. Better than nothing.

Manfred Sys Stage Win, Stage 5
Edik Komalchevskiy 21st GC

We leave happy!
