Dear Froomedog99, have you seen stage 17 of the Vuelta?

Contador is a Doper Wink
Probably ate a few "steaks"

To me, doping doesn't really matter. It is about what I watch. And I would rather watch Contador his attacking style than Andy his nagging and 'Only LBL and TDF matter' style.

In my eyes doping does matter, but Contador dindt take doping he was dopeD. Also (i know this is the wrong thread) but what happened about Frank Schlecks doping case?

- Tom Boonen his victories. Really hate him.

Whaaat? Shock

Everybody has his preferences. But I think Boonen his riding is horrible. Maybe it is because I'm a Cancellara fan, maybe not. In the spring his kind of wheelsucking-ish riding annoyed me. Always relying on teammates and never making a effort himself. Maybe it's a bit harsh (it actually is Pfft) but I just hate the guy. But everyone has an opinion and this is mine Smile

I can understand if you don't like him, but that's just not true.
Did you see his solo effort of 50km at Paris - Roubaix? The finale of RvV, where he was all alone against two Italians? He makes efforts himself, believe me.

Ups:
Hesjedal's Giro win and in particular the way he rode off from the others on Stage 19.
Boonen's early season form
David Veilleux winning Tre Valli Varesine
Valverde's strong Vuelta
Sagan's Tour dominance
Valverde's stage win at the Tour

Downs:
Spidertech ending, but possibly coming back
Very Boring Tour
Amount of crashes to Team Leaders at the Tour
Rabobank ending sponsorship
Cataldo, Boswell and Dombrowski going to Sky
Lack of Norwegian fanboys after a Norwegian win Pfft
I missed pretty much all the spring and Ardennes Classics as well as the WC and Lombardia.

stenic
ups
a Brit finally winning the yellow jersey.
the couple of months after Euro 2012 when cycling was perhaps the number 1 sport in the UK.
Dave Brailsford's "round wheels" comments.

downs
Gregory Bauge.
the joke that was the back dated Contador ban.
the letter in today's sunday times sport section which is typical of what the majority of non cycling fans probably think of cycling right now.

lokytrew
@IanButler. I ment the whole 'leadout' by Terpstra. Which is not really relevant though, as he made a 50 km solo effort. But I think it also annoys me that his teammates are way too good, which has ofcourse nothing to do with Tom but it annoys me and it also makes me dislike their whole team. But, you're right, he definitely makes solo efforts and I was a bit exagerating (not sure how you spell it) in my previous post.

There are definitely more things, but off the top of my head:

Ups:
- Superb second half of the season from Kessiakoff, especially the Tour.
- Purito finally winning an Ardennes Classic plus Lombardia, and learning how to stay in form throughout a whole Grand Tour.
- An awesome Paris-Roubaix.
- Rabottini's stage win and KoM jersey at the Giro.
- Sagan pwning in the Tour.
- Pinot's big breakthrough.
- Contador returning and showing how to race properly.
- A great Vuelta.
- Lance caught at last.

Downs:
- Wiggins winning too much. I'm fine with the other Sky riders, but I'm not a fan of him.
- Disappointing year from Larsson, who has probably passed his peak.
- Cancellara out of RVV and Roubaix.
- Rodriguez missing out on winning his first GT. Really felt sorry for him.
- Quite boring Tour, apart from Kessiakoff's KoM battle.
- The worlds road race. I hoped for action at least a lap or two earlier.
- Nobody having the balls to attack from distance in Lombardia, and then no pictures from the decisive final climb.

Ups
Wiggins winning the Tour (cycling gets more respect in Britain now, hopefully trickle-down sporting respect and funding works better than trickle-economics).
People starting to see what anyone who wanted to saw about Armstrong.
De Gendt's Stelvio attack.
A good Tour route (shame nobody was strong enough to challenge Sky).
Bruyneel gone (hopefully for good).
Vos in the worlds.
Rabottini's stage win at the Giro.
Contador attacking on that first Vuelta summit.
Not much else I can remember, pretty crappy year.

Downs
The naivety, ignorance and self-rightousness of many of these new cycling fans (and British press).
Boring Tour, Boring Giro (except for 3 stages), overhyped Vuelta.
The fact that cycling is getting scapegoated a bit (not that it doesn't deserve it).
The UCI's continued existence.
Nationalism.
The potential continuing death of ballsy attacking cycling.
Of course the people we have lost.

Wild Dog
Ups:
The Vuelta (with Contadors win, and the awesome fight between Rodriguez, Valverde and Contador)
Boonen's comeback to winning ways.
Mørkøv, Sagan and Kessiakoff at the Tour.

Vinokourov at the Olympics
Rabottini and Hesjedal at the Giro
Moreno Moser

Downs:
Sky dominance at the Tour (Boooooooooring as hell...)
The Schlecks (even though I don't like them)
Saxo's bad year (watch out next year!)
RadioShack - what a disaster!? (hate them but seriously...)
Retirement of Freire and Vino
Deaths of Cabedo, Goris and one of the Van Heerden brothers.
Rabobank's withdraw.

Ohh and did I remember Sky's dominance? Pfft

Top ten upsGrin

10. Ryder Hesjedal at the giro
9. Chris Froome (even though i think he's taken something)

Gold of the year

For me it's Fredrik Kessiakoff and Alberto Contador. Kessiakoff get's it for increasing the interest for cycling in Sweden by taking the KOM jersey at the tour and winning the ITT in La Vuelta. Contador get's it for racing just the Eneco tour before winning La Vuelta. Even though I hate him I have to admit, that's strong. Probably the steaks again Pfft

Top ten DownsSad

10. Tommy Voeckler winning the battle for the KOM jersey Pfft
9. Sky dominating and controlling the Tour.

- The Armstrong case, as great as it is having it publicly known he's a compulsive lying doper, it is bad for the image of cycling.
