Stage 7
Today is the mountain stage. Maybe a stage win today. I really hope so.
The Race
Stitina followed an attack about 15km to go.
With 130km to go I realised the only way to get time back was to ride of the front. So i got the team organized on the front 10km from the start of the climb.
The climb had started and Stitina was leading, then Martin then me.
With 1km to go to the top of the mountain Martin attacked I got on his wheel to try and get away from the peloton.
With 72km to go me and Martin had 1.07 on the peloton and it was extending.
With 1km to go in the last classified mountain I dropped Martin, I now had 1.41 on the peloton.
Contador won ahead of Schleck and L.L Sanchez.
I finished way behind and my contentions for GC gone. I can still get a stage win.

GC Rankings
The team has only had 1 stage win. The next stage is hilly which I am going to try again.

Stage 8
Today is the final stage. A hilly stage which I hope to win. I am going to give everything I have got today.
The Race
I was under the protection of Martin for most of the race.
We got on the front with 80km to go. It was Zebriskie-Stitina-Me-Martin.
With 20km to go the final climb started.
With 19km to go Sanchez attacked. I followed and so did Martin.
Me and Sanchez made the leading group with only 20 seconds to Contador and Cunego.
With 10km to go I actually had a shot at winning the stage.
I attacked with 7km to go and got a 30 seconds gap.
With 1km to go this is what it looked like.
There was no way I could win now unless there was a crash.
And Sanchez had done it. Another win for the Spanish rider. 2nd went to Cunego just ahead of Contador. I got 4th place which wasn’t the worst placing.

Not the best race for me or the team. Dan Martin had a good race winning the KOM Classification. I came 4th in the last stage which I was happy with. I hope to do a lot better in my next race.

It was because of the TT.
I also think you are the only person following now. If there is anyone else I would really appreciate a few more posts or something.
Anyway thanks Ian

I think sutty68 is following as well, pretty sure of it
And there are probably others that don't comment, but as a storywriter myself I understand that every comment gives motivation, therefor I try to comment as much as possible! Liking this story so far! |

YES I am following mate
Ryder didn't do himself justice at the Paris-Nice
So lets hope its just a fitness issue and he starts to come good |

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco
Start List
The Stages
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3
Stage 4
Stage 5
Stage 6
The Team
Leader-Ryder Hesjedal
Ryder is here for the overall. He is hoping for a few top 10 places and a win and maybe a top 5 overall. He will get a lot of help from the team so lets hope it is enough.
Helpers-Daniel Martin and Michael Kreder
Martin is the main helper for Hesjedal. Kreder is also here to help Hesjedal. They will both be very big helpers but they may be able to get into a breakaway.
Team Mate-Peterson, Van Summeran, Talansky, Zebriskie and Navardauskas
All these people are here as work horses. If they need to they will work and maybe even get the water. This is all for Hesjedal and they know that. Lets hope they can give enough support for Hesjedal.
Coming soon-Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

I hope i'm allowed to say this, as its constructive critisism, but i found your reports of the 2 penultimate stages of Paris Nice a tad conusing... You said that you and Martin broke away from the pack, and had 1:41 going over the last climb, but then Contador wins and you don't even get top-10... If i read it correctly, then all that was left was a descent and possibly some flat road. And if Ryder had a gap of almost 2 minutes coming into a section like that, i dont think you'd see him till after the finish... |

I meant 41 seconds and 11km to go.

Stage 1
The first of many hill stages. Top 10 will be nice today.
The Race
Today we got Michael Kreder in the breakaway.
At the start of the big hill in the middle of the stage Kreder had 7.44 on the peloton.
A group of 10 favourites went off the front of the peloton including: Gerdemann, Tulansky, Me, De Gendt, Menchov, De la Fuente, D.Martin, Schleck, Serpa, Viciosa.
Guys who is this.
That’s right. It’s Andy Schleck. He has lost a lot of ground. And that is how easily you can go down.
I attacked with 20km to go and Contador followed. Unfortunately I am still not quite up to full fitness and he got away from me.
With 5km to go I was by myself more than 2 minutes behind Contador and only 20 seconds in front of the other favourites.
Contador won the race ahead of Scarponi and Schleck.
I had a pretty good race and managed to come 5th in the stage. Martin came in 12th place just ahead of Rodriguez.
