Im surprised to see many of you guys talking about Ullrich and Cunego being busts. The definition of a Bust clearly fits neither of those two. Ullrich won the Tour once and had several grat results there and in other races! Cunego won the Giro and though his production isnt h´that great, he still achieved a lot more than the likes of Popovych that had much higher expectations for their future and never gotten even close to that...

Karpets is one of those riders who peaked early in their career. He's a mediocre rider now. |

Just like Gutiérez (that Spanish time-trialer from Movistar) |

And there's guys like Cooke and Eisel who were very good in their early years, but have turned into domestiques now. |

Well, Gutiérrez is 34. Not all riders can be like Horner or Voigt.

That's true. And another name of a great talent is Heinrich Haussler. He was such a great talent, but he has (still) not winning very much. And also Linus Gerdemann. |

There are plenty of others as well. Just take a look at all the promising youngsters Rabobank produce that never reach top level. Vermeltfoort is probably the latest example.
I will probably hate you forever for this post
But seriously, I think that a top 5 at the TdF a top result is. (gesink)
pointsjersey in the vuelta (mollema)
stage win in Swiss and a top 10 in the Giro. (kruijswijk)
top 5 at WC and several top 10 in classics. (Boom)
and they aren't old.
Löfkvist never made it throught either, did he?
I wasn't talking about Gesink, Mollema, Kruijswijk or Boom. None of those deserves to be called a bust.
I meant riders like Vermeltfoort, Van Winden, Leezer etc.
And yes, Löfkvist is another good example. I'm definitely not denying that.

In that case, we are best friends forever again!
And your right, they never made it. But I never thought they had a big potential, except Van Winden.
Guess who's back?
Lets see how many friens are still around...

Are you trolling?
Half, at best.
He was paid based on his potential (that's how things go), though he got a palmares little cyclists have, it was probably very, very inferior to what he was supposed to be able to achieve.
Giuliano Figueras, counts as another less arguable bust, I reckon. |

Tom Danielson, he's definitely not reached a level that was expected of him in his younger days. |

Right, let's talk about something else...
How about that Wegmann and that Sinkewitz, eh?

Surprised you all mention riders like Ulle, Burghardt, Ciolek, Wegmann, Sinkewitz...but nobody says Gerdemann. |
