CLASICA DE ALMERIA
Joaquim Agostinho is going to race his first classic of the season. At the same time, Jonathan Castroviejo is injured and unable to end Tour de Langwaki. With Paris Nice so close, it’s the second injury from those who were pre-selected. Today the team is announcing the 2 replacements for this World Tour race and Agostinho have a chance.
Today’s classic has his bit of hardness, although it should be decided on a sprint. With Rojas and Ventoso far from their best, the team should bet on hardening the race has much as possible and then try something with the guys in good shape, Agostinho included. With a strong lineup. Cobo will make his first appearance, as well as Intxausti. Bruseghin and Iriarte (who worked a lot in Algarve and should be in good shape) close the 6 men squad.
Cobo has managed to escape, after Agostinho and Intxausti tried for several times. He managed to get 2 minutes on the peloton…
With Cobo escaping the persecutors and having 4 minutes on the peloton, Agostinho tries again to attack, when the road inclines.
With 35km to go Agostinho is caught. The peloton accelerated on the way down and he had no chances. Something that he has to train is his downhill skills. Cobo still has 2’30 minutes but he’s alone and his energy is almost gone.
With 3km to go and with Cobo caught 10km ago, Movistar tries to set things for Visconti. Some sprinters are there, let’s see if he has a chance.
Rank Name Team Time
1 Koldo Fernández Garmin - Sharp 4h02'38
2 Julien Simon Saur - Sojasun s.t.
3 Jimmy Casper AG2R La Mondiale s.t.
4 Koen De Kort Team Argos - Shimano s.t.
5 Kenny Van Hummel Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team s.t.
6 Giovanni Visconti Movistar Team s.t.
7 Manuel Cardoso Caja Rural s.t.
8 Óscar Freire Katusha Team s.t.
9 Jimmy Engoulvent Saur - Sojasun s.t.
10 Xavier Florencio Katusha Team s.t.
A 6th place for Visconti, as he shapes up to Tirreno Adriatico and Milano San Remo. Agostinho gave his best and he's now waiting to see if he stays in Spain or travels to Paris.

Paris-Nice
Stage 1 Prologue
What an amazing start of Paris-Nice for Agostinho! His moral was high, and his legs where feeling perfect for the 9km time trial. For some time he had the 2nd best time but then Chavanel and Cancellara threw him to 4th. But a great result, and he should now be a protected rider, wearing the youth leader jersey! Valverde, the GC contender has lost just 23 seconds, so it was a good start for the team.

Stage 3 Paris-Nice
Today we have a profile that might bring some action on its end. So, with Valverde and Agostinho in good shape, Movistar should be one of the teams to endure the stage really hard.
Although Movistar worked a lot, Boasson Hagen was the strongest, with Valverde Managing only 11th place. Except for the stage bonuses everything remais equal.

Stage 4 Paris-Nice
The 4th stage has a profile very similar to the previous. Things didn't work out too well yesterday, so Movistar should change things. Not so much work and more tactical moves.
So when Agostinho left the peloton with 80km to go it looked like things might be different. He joined a break that had 4 minutes of advance.
The break was caught with 27 km to go, so now it was time for Agostinho to regain energy to help Valverde at the finish.
With 8km to go Agostinho brings Valverde to the front and he is now almost
dead. He'll just try to hang on the front.
Chavanel attacked on the right time and got the stage and the yellow! Valverde again couldn't impose himself, while Agostinho managed not to lose any time.
Stage Results

He's still on the top ten on his first WT race, despite his work to Valverde. The team increase the pace as hell, but still guys like Freire and Breschel can get perfectly to the final sprint. Maybe Stage 5 can change things up. But only tomorrow

I think the profile of stage 3 is wrong, though? |

Stage 5 Paris-Nice
With a very good profile for Valverde, Movistar decided to attack the race on the last third so to set things up to the team leader.
The break of the day had 7 men: Fédrigo, Champion, Sicard, Morkov, Kreder, Van Avermaet and Grivko. The last 5 are less than 1 minute from the yellow jersey on GC. As we enter the last third of the stage the break has 4'18 but it's decreasing and there is still 55km to go.
With 15km to go the peloton is increasing the speed as other 8 men have left the peloton and there are now 15 escapees, but the front is less than 2 minutes ahead.
As we reach the last climb of the day the peloton has almost 70 men. Valverde is feeling good...
Gadret and Gilbert attack, Agostinho responds with Valverde on his whell...
Gadret wins! Valverde is second and Agostinho arrives in 9th with the same time!!
Stage results:
1 John Gadret AG2R La Mondiale 4h40'02
2 Alejandro Valverde Movistar Team + 14
3 Roman Kreuziger Astana Pro Team s.t.
4 Peter Velits Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team s.t.
5 Sylvain Chavanel Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team s.t.
6 Philippe Gilbert BMC Racing Team s.t.
7 Wout Poels Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team s.t.
8 Luis León Sánchez Rabobank Cycling Team s.t.
9 Joaquim Agostinho Movistar Team s.t.
10 Christophe Kern Team Europcar + 44
And Agostinho is now 3d overall!! While Valverde reaches the top ten!
1 Sylvain Chavanel Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team 17h55'30
2 Luis León Sánchez Rabobank Cycling Team + 30
3 Joaquim Agostinho Movistar Team s.t.
4 Philippe Gilbert BMC Racing Team + 32
5 Peter Velits Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team s.t.
6 Alejandro Valverde Movistar Team + 36
7 Edvald Boasson Hagen Sky Procycling + 40
8 John Gadret AG2R La Mondiale s.t.
9 Roman Kreuziger Astana Pro Team s.t.
10 Fabian Cancellara RadioShack - Nissan + 44
11 Tony Martin Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team + 53
With the final time trial still to come, Cancellara and Tony Martin are still in good position to win Paris-Nice.
Agostinho owns now by his right the white jersey as Boasson Hagen failed to stay with the first men. Still he leads the points classification, while Morkov is the KOM.
Teams Classification after stage 5:
1 Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team 14h01'18 53h48'15
2 Movistar Team s.t. + 39

Stage 6 Paris-Nice
With 3 stages to go, today should be a day for sprinters, although we have some mountain classifications. Should be a day for Movistar to relax, let the others do the work and control the main rivals.
