Great night for Portugal yesterday. Rolling Eyes

Académica, could have won, but Maritimo and Sporting, horrible. I don't know what happened at the airport, but was there some supporters screaming at Sá Pinto yesterday or not?

Yeah, and at Godinho Lopes, the president, too.

Anyway, Sa Pinto's been sacked. New coach announced soon, rumours that it's Co Adriaanse.

Sporting with another lose. 2-1 with Genk, incredibly bad defending in both goals... I don't think a new coach can do the trick.

Helsingborg with there second loss. This time against Hannover with 2-1

Sporting is much bigger than all this people that are working there. How can players winning 150k euros play that bad?? Oh well, Sporting is not that, and Sporting will be back. We cannot buy so many south american players like benfica and porto, because we don't have the money to do it. Just put the 2nd team players (1st on 2nd national division) playing and then our national team can have more figos, ronaldos, nanis...

I disagree with the money part. Sporting is scouting the wrong areas. They paid 8M for Elias and that guy doesn't play sh*t. The last really good signing they made was indeed Izmailov, and we all know he can't play a full match

It says that Porto spends 100 million, Benfica 70 million and Sporting about a half Benfica spends. Elias came last season and it's a brasilian international player like Ramires. He's not playing enough, it's true, as it's true that Izmailov is a great player that can only make 20 matches a year. Still Sporting is not that, we're not competing, as will our national team not compete after Ronaldo and Nani retire.

About Europa League, maybe Sporting de Braga will go for it after leaving Champions League

Sporting also signed Matias Fernandez after Izmailov, problem was that the guy is also very injury-proned, and didn't have the impact I expected on the team. Hopefuly he'll show he's talent in Fiorentina again. Then last year Sporting signed some quality players (Schaars, Rinaudo, Carrillo, Insúa) and super over-rated Capel and Jeffren, among others. Ok, the first one played fairly well in the first half last year, but he's been crap since. Then this year they sign five players, only one has shown something (Viola), whilst Rojo and Gelson are being payed high salaries when even I could defend better than them. Boularhouz and Labyad have been injured, but I think they can improve during the season, especially the young one, who's got an incredible talent. Lastly, Sporting's got big talents in its youth team, Bruma, Esgaio, Dier, Arías, João Mário, Rubio, some of them could even play in the first team! I could see Capel, Jeffren, Cédric or Elias sit for some of those.

Just got home after watching Molde against Steaua Bucuresti.

Molde started really well and should have been up with a couple of goals. The team faded of and Steaua scored on theire two occasions in the first half. In the second half it was quite even. Molde managed to put in a goal (Chima), but after that we didn't really manage to creat that many chances apart from a really big one for Mostrøm. With a bit of luck we could have taken it, but Steaua Bucuresti went home with a 2-1 win.

Great for Académica 2-0 win against Atlético, it might be hard to qualify, but it was a great result, and hope they don't slip against Hapoel and Plzen now. Smile

Sporting have the worst luck ever.

Ridiculous ref in the game between Hannover - Helsingborg. One of the worst decisions I've ever seen in the last minutes.

I think Plzen and Atletico are the clear first two places in the group. Plzen can go far this year i hope. But a good win for Académica. Smile

Can't agree.

Academica had a crappy second half against Plzen but dominated the first half and lost two points with Hapoel at the end of the match on the only real shot on goal the Israelis had all match. They also had a great showing in Madrid (as did Plzen). I can't agree Plzen is "clearly" the 2nd place on the group, neither because of the quality of the game both teams have played nor the probable results in the two last rounds. If Academica win at home with Plzen and in Tel Aviv, Plzen has to at least draw with Atletico Madrid. And don't expect Simeone to put up a disconnected team again. He was beyond pissed with the team last night and they actually need the points because of next year's seeding in the CL.

And suddenly, Basel crush Sporting with a 3-0 result. Sporting are out of Europa League, in their most EASIEST GROUP OF THE PAST THREE YEARS.
