Hello everyone,
Just finished the prologue of Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen.
As you can see it's just a flat, short TT, not really my thing, but I did the best I could anyway!
I was one of the final riders to start today, and I was quite impressed with the crowd, there was a massive show-up today, in spite of the bad weather.
I instantly knew I was in Belgium, just take a look at this:
Let me tell you something, NEVER BEFORE did I have to race between giant beer bottles. Only in Belgium, you gotta love it, though.
Unfortunately, I wasn't strong enough to pull off a top 25, which is what I was hoping for. Instead I ended as 41th. Phinney was amazingly strong and won easily.
Schedule Update
There have been some changes in the schedule. I'll still be racing the same races but Van Den Broeck will now be riding Tour of Romandie instead of Basque Country. So I'll be helping Meersman and De Greef over there.
Too bad, I was anxious to learn from him. But I'll get other chances. At least I still get to race the classics for Vanendert!
Well, I'm off to bed, Big day tomorrow. A lot of hills (I like!) and a lot of cobbles (I don't like!).
Let's see what we can do there.
See you there,
H. |

Your report style is very nice.
Good luck in West-Vlaanderen and you are totally right about that beer bottle (love that picture btw)

Thanks to all!
@ PCM rulezz: It was surprising to see a big beer bottle in PCM, but Belgium is Belgium
@ Sutty: 1'58". He had a solid start but near the end the wind practically blew him away, he's way too short and light to resist the wind
@ johannes-w: Yeah, I want to give this story a nice pace because I'm going away for 3 weeks in less than a month and I want to build up a "fanbase" which won't be gone after those 3 weeks |

Hello,
Two thirds of Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen have already passed. Today's stage was a real strength sapper! I heard the commentator say.
He was right, though, just take a look at this profile:
We sent Dockx in the breakaway of the day
As soon as we set foot (some even literally) on the cobbles, I lost some places in the peloton. So Dennis Vanendert, Bart De Clerq and I decided to ride together, Dennis' girlfriend took this picture, De Clerq is the first, I'm in the middle. We had a nice chat, I really got to know them better, they're cool guys, I look forward racing with them again!
Taking it easy in a group left behind by the fast pace of BMC!
Meanwhile in the breakaway: It was raining attacks. Dockx strategically waited and always jumped on Steegmans' wheel, since he was the strongest rider in the breakaway. After the attacks cooled down, with less than 10km to go, Dockx attacked himself, no one had the energy left to follow.
Dockx gets our team yet another victory, and what a beauty this one is! He outsmarted Steegmans!
Almost half an hour later, Vanendert, De Clerq and myself are about to arrive. Since we didn't really compete in the race (because we can't ride cobbles), we decided to do a little one-on-one sprint, just me and Vanendert. I think De Clerq was a bit chicken, but whatever. Unfortunately, I lost that sprint (the last 2km were nearly all cobbles), but he was so far ahead of me that I could get this picture, this way it looks like I won, by far! Actually he was so far ahead I think he stopped and made the picture himself...
Result (look for me at 141, and look how much time I lost on Vanendert, I'm almost ashamed. Though he rides cobbles better than me, well, that's pretty clear today!)

Well, at least I feel I'm getting in shape, despite the cobbles I had a good day. Tomorrow's quite flat, so Dockx shouldn't have any problems holding that jersey! Especially with us working for him.
Race Update
The Strade Bianche has been ridden today.
Van Der Sande was in the breakaway of the day.
Unfortunately he didn't make it. We didn't send a strong team so no results for us there, only this lovely shot of the breakaway with Lotto-Belisol:
In case you want to know, Ginanni won in front of Eisel and Gatto. Nice win for the Italian.
Last stage of West-Vlaanderen tomorrow. Also the first day of Paris-Nice. However, I won't be racing again until the end of the month after tomorrow.
See you tomorrow!

Yeah, Dockx got lucky in the finale, he surely wasn't the strongest of the breakaway

Another win? Great job! You should teach me how to get through with a break away as I always seem to get caught lately
Also nice group pic Vanendert's girlfriend took |

Hi,
Last stage of West-Vlaanderen today and well, we we're all at Dockx' service, to take that beautiful jersey home with us!
At the end there was a 3-4% slope so I was allowed to try something.
Unfortunately for me, the hard work of the day wore me down and the mass sprint was inevitable.
A nice win by Kévin Thome. Dockx came in an impressive 4th and is the new winner of Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen (on top of the mountain and young jersey!). Congratulations to the team, we did an excellent job today!

Bad news, people.
I asked around a bit and there's a mighty big chance that the upcoming patch will require a restart of the career.
I didn't know about that since I bought my first PCM game last year in about August so I started playing with the latest patch.
The thought of starting over kind of made me lose my motivation with this. I'm not that far in career mode yet but still, I hope you understand!
However, I'll be starting a new story whenever the patch has installed, properly, so if you're still interested, you could follow that!
Just as a way to end this story: I was just done riding Critérium International: Van Den Broeck won the last stage and the GC and Vergnaud came in 8th, quite a ride!
Thanks to everyone for following this, your posts were a lot of fun to read!
I hope you enjoyed this fast and short story and I hope you'll be there with me in the next one, which will last much longer and will be much better, that's a promise!

Sad, but you'll come back stronger. After you comeback from holiday, all the patches and DB will be ready, so a good time for you to start long story

Thanks I already have an interesting new idea, involving a Orica - GreenEdge but more: what it coul've been. I don't know the details yet but imagine Evans & Porte and many other riders. Not mainly a sprinting team, but also strong in tours and cobbles, and possibly a younger team.
But anyway, I have more than a month to work it out, and I'll get used to PCM 12 in the mean time.
I hope you'll follow that story! |

Just as you start to get into the story, something has to spoil it, so sad
But Good Luck when you bounce back with a bigger and better story |
