@baia + sutty Thank you both. Here's the first stage. I'm heading to bed now, but you can expect the second stage within the nexr 20 or so hours. Wink

SIMULATED

The team time-trial will be decisive in the final GC, and although we are not a team known for our TT ability, Colnago will ride their hardest.

The best time of the day was set by the Movistar team, who upset a star-studded Sky outift, and a consistent Garmin squad. BMC came in fourth, with Astana rounding out the top-5. Colnago didn't ride too well, but avoided the last spot, edging out the Acqua & Sapone team by 10 seconds.

2.08 lost on stage one, not good, but when is a TTT good Sad

baia
Well, seems Pozzovivo will have to attack... Smile

Good luck to Pozzo in Italy! Will you be going for the breakaway on stage 5 with Pozzo?
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring.

Teddy The Creator
@sutty That's very true. If you look at my team though, I'm amazed I avoided last place. My highest TT rated rider is Pozzo, at 65. The rest are all around 63-62 with a couple in the 50s I think.

@baia You will love the next stage. Pfft

@chris01 Thank you! Hopefully Pozzo will be able to get free on that stage, but I struggle to get successful mountain stage breaks on PCM. Frown

PCM rulezz
Tough competition, but Pozzo could take a top 10 with is current form

Teddy The Creator
@PCM rulezz Yes, way harder than our past races. Our aim is just top-20 and the KoM jersey. Wink

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 2

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno2prof.jpg

The first road stage is an interesting one. The race starts with hilly terrain, and with KoM points up for grabs the competiton will be tough. But the finale for the race is ultimately flat so either a bunch-sprint or a breakaway are my guesses for today.

The Race

Many teams in the peloton were surprised to see Domenico Pozzovivo attacking out of the peloton so early, but it was no surprise to us, as he had one goal: Wear the King of the Mountains jersey. A succesful attack, as he joined a strong breakaway. His compatriots were Matti Breschel, Manuele Mori, Gerald Ciolek, Daniele Bennati, Lars Ytting Bak, Dominique Rollin, Stijn Devolder and Matteo Tosatto. All great riders in their own right.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno1.jpg

Despite competition from Breschel and Devolder, Pozzo took the first 5 KoM points with ease. He soloed over the line, and then relaxed back into the break. Their lead was pretty solid, at 6'45" already.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno2.jpg

Nearly no one was chasing in the pack, the only constant being Sky's J.A. Flecha, but alone he couldn't stop the star-studded break from building a heavy lead. They reached their peak just before the second climb, at nearly 10 minutes. A chance to take the stage today, maybe?

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno3.jpg

And once the second climb cam around, Pozzo showed he was by far the superior climber in the break, easily taking the next 5 points and wrapping up the jersey for one day at least. No more work at the front from Pozzo, he would just relax and hope the break can hold on.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno4.jpg

And now it seemed the peloton began to chase, led by, suprisingly, GreenEDGE. They must have confidence in their leader Simon Gerrans. The lead was now down to about 5 minutes, with 60kms remaining. Maybe their chances of survival were over?

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno5.jpg

With the peloton closing, the inevitable attacks came from the break. This dropped a few of the BOTD's riders, and now a 5-man group was out front, with Matti Breschel about a minute ahead of them. This would be tight...

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno6.jpg

It was now just Breschel ahead, and he was soloing all the way. He would take the win. But behind him a brave Domenico Pozzovivo had dropped his breakaway companions and was soloing ahead. He would on!

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno7.jpg

And as Breschel wins, Pozzovivo comes over about 50 seconds afterwards. A great ride for him, and it seemed he may have wiped off all of yesterday's losses already on the other favourites.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno8.jpg

And yes, the peloton, led by Matt Goss, comes into Indicatore 2'26" after Pozzovivo! All of yesterday's losses made up, and the KoM jersey. Great day for Colnago.

Teddy The Creator
i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 3

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno3prof.jpg

After a rolling, relatively short 178 km route southeast along spine of Italy, stage 4 will have a flat finish Terni, located in the center of mainland Italy. Tirreno-Adriatico hasn't finished here recently, but other than several left hand turns in the final 3.5 km this looks straight-forward for another sprint finish. Some hills about 50kms from the finish won't be enough to stop them today.

We have two goals today; Win some points on the KoM sprint with Pozzo, and get a top-5 finish with Sacha Modolo in the sprint. With no train, he will most likely latch onto the fast Sky or GreenEDGE trains.

The Race

Controlling the peloton today fell into our hands, as we needed to keep them together so Pozzo was in the best posiiton to win the KoM points. Pirazza and Battaglin were at the fore.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno1-1.jpg

The only riders we let go were sprint aces Mark Cavendish and J.J. Rojas, who both sped off to try and win points. The latter was victorious here, but the final sprint would be a whole different race.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno2-1.jpg

It was now time for the Mountain points to be contested. Today it was not Pozzo first to kick, it was in fact Vincenzo Nibali. Pozzo latched onto his wheel, as Van Den Broeck and Allesandro Ballan did the same.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno3-1.jpg

It was Nibali who took the 5 points and sped downhill, but Pozzo edged Ballan for second and took 3 points, protecting his lead.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno4-1.jpg

As Pozzo and co. rolled back into the peloton, Nibali used his great descending skills to create a gap. Once he hit the flat he was gobbled up though.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno5-1.jpg

7.5kms remaining, and the trains are forming, Sky and GreenEDGE are, as predicted, the two strongest trains for their respective leaders of Cavendish and Goss. Rojas was on Cav's wheel, and Ciolek was on Goss' wheel, followed by our own Modolo.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno6-1.jpg

But NO! A nasty crash, started by Sacha Modolo slipping on the road, has caused a major pileup! Some riders look really bothered, and all Colango riders are down, except for our lucky leader Pozzovivo. Modolo's day is over, but not his race.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno7-1.jpg

Back in the sprint, and Rojas has taken the stage. Cav looked a little shaken by the crash behind him, and he dissapeared, failing to enter the top-10. Heinrich Haussler is second, with Ale Jet 3rd.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno8-1.jpg

And here come the bruised bodies, out of the crash. Lots of time and morale has been lost today, as well as four abandons, most notably of Sky pair Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas.

Nice reporting! I like it! Pozzo got a great result to finish 2nd and Rojas winning! Pfft

PCM rulezz
Great result for Pozzo. Too bad modolo could not sprint due to the crach Sad

Teddy The Creator
@valverde Thanks, I like the layout I got so far too. Grin At least two more stages tonight. Wink

@PCM rulezz Yeah that crash was really annoying. Frown

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 4

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno4prof.jpg

Stage 4 is very long at 252 km and it ends with the steep, uphill, paved finish in Chieti with a max grade of 19% (12.2% average). Michele Scarponi has won this stage the last two years, but he is not present to make it three. Before the peloton reaches the finish, they will climb 1300m Passo Lanciano, the hardest climb of this tour probably. Today is a good chance for Pozzo to grab the leaders jersey, although he must dig deep to stop Nibali from stealing away his KoM jersey.

The Race

The BOTD formed early, with no Colnago riders. Biggest names in the break were Ben Hermans, Xavier Florencio, Fabio Felline, Emanuelle Sella and Ruben Perez.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno1-2.jpg

Past the first 185kms, and onto the Lanciano. Giovanni Visconti was setting a fast pace at the front, while Pozzo was the only Colnago rider left in the main group. The break was no threat as their lead was under 2 minutes.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno2-2.jpg

Ohh but such bad luck! Pozzovivo tumbles to the ground near the summit of the Lanciano, but he gets back up and joins the second following group. Bad timing as the favourites group now heads downhill.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno3-2.jpg

Pozzo is pushing his hardest on the downhill, as he joins (and passes) Johann Tschopp. He is now soloing downhill, with the leaders in sight!

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno4-2.jpg

The break is now down to 4 men; Hermans, Perez, Florencio and Sella. They will soon be caught.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno5-2.jpg

And what a ride by Pozzo, he has rejoined the favourites group! The though of the leaders jersey has willed him all the way back! Into the last 5kms, and the race is getting interesting.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno6-2.jpg

Valverde attacks! The first move will split up this group! Let's see who's leading up the final ascent into Chieti.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno7-2.jpg

And it's Nibbles and, suprisingly, Daniel Navarro who are leading the race up the final climb! It will be a tight sprint! Pozzo is not far behind..

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno8-2.jpg

Nibali just edges out Navarro! Great sprint! Let's see when Pozzovivo comes over the line! Can he sieze the leader's jersey?

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno9-2.jpg

He comes over 1 minute after Nibali in 7th, and that means he is the overall leader! Great day for Pozzo!

baia
Now how you did know i would like 2nd stage?Grin
Really nice to watch it, great stage from Pozzovivo.....Wink..That´s the Pozzovivo we all known..
3rd stage went in wrong direction... pity for Modolo but was funny:lol: to read he had started the crash... don´t ask me why...Smile
Colnago is doing great........ now with 3rd spot, i guess Pozzovivo will not attack that much, as he can get the lead at the mountains.... maybe some other rider can take kom hunter roleWink

Damn.. i wasn´t counting with this stage now...Sad...will have to edit my post...Grin
Stage 4:What a stage by Pozzovivo...Shock ... great, great, great.....Banana
You are in perfect position to bring this story to a level way different from all "new" stories... keep up this great work mate.Wink

Keep on writing reports like the last 3, ad getting these results, and it comes close to the level of Tuco's!!
Really loved your attacking ride in stage 2, and happy Pozzo could minimize his loss after the crash in stage 4.

Love it, keep it coming!!

Really solid performances from Pozzo, a break, and now, leading the GC. It will be hard to keep it, but with a little bit of effort, who knows... Wink

Pellizotti2
Great results with Pozzo. Would be amazing if you managed to win Tirreno with him, considering the TTT and the final ITT!

And I love the reports!

baia getting bit too excited Pfft

Just joking. Great story Teddy, although very much expected high quality considering your previous story attempts. Hope this one last long as it's great Pfft

Pozzo did great to get into that break, good shot at winning it now but it will be tight battle with Vinokourov looking strong.

Great riding by Pozzovivo in Italy and resulting in the GC lead, Well Done Smile

@baia Stage 2 was great, Stage 3 not so much. Stage 4 was predictable but still good. And thanks so much for the comparisons to Tuco's awesome story, but I still think I'm a little behind that legendary story. Wink

@dienblad Once again, thanks for the comparisons but they are silly, I just want to make it to the next race. Pfft

@Freitas Thanks, keeping up will definitely be hard, but I just boosted Pozzo's MO stat to 78 (after this stage, unforrtunately), so maybe that'll make a difference. Wink

@Pellizotti Thanks, it would be a big achievement, but if I win the KoM and get a top-5 that will still be great.

@Alakagom Pfft Yeah, baia is pretty enthusiastic. Thanks so much Alakagom, hopefully you'll keep following!

@sutty Thank you sutty. Grin

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif Tirreno - Adriatico - Stage 5

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno5prof.jpg

Now comes the queen stage, as the riders start in Martinsicuro, and finish in high altitude in Prati di Tivo. After the start along the coast of the Adriatic Sea, stage 6 gets progressively harder as we head inland with two big climbs siutated at the end of the stage. The two big climbs at the end of stage are Piano Roseto (20 km at 4.7%) which crests 35 km before the finish of this 194 km stage. Then there is the mountaintop finish at Prati di Tivo (15 km at 7.1%). Most riders feel that this stage will determine the winner of this year's race, and Pozzo will have to hold off a seamingly strong Navarro and Vinokourov, who have nothing to lose.

The Race

Today's break of the day was a rare one containing a Colnago rider. Enrico Battaglin was our man out in front. He was joined notably by Ivan Santaromita, Cristiano Salerno and Fabio Taborre, as well as 8 others.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno1-3.jpg

The break was out front was in front for a majority of the race. Here they are, passing over the Piano Roseto, the day's first major climb. Santaromita of BMC took the most points, with Battaglin 2nd. Their lead was heavily cut now, but they were still ahead.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno2-3.jpg

Now onto the Prato di Tivo, and the break is now a 3-man group of Santaromita, Battaglin and Salerno. Despite strong riding, they would be caught in about 5 kms.

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno3-3.jpg

And 10kms left on the climb, and the race, and the clearly fit Daniel Navarro has accelarated off the front! No one can follow!

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno4-3.jpg

His lead has stayed at about 35". 5kms now, and surely the others need to react?

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno5-3.jpg

Vinokourov attacks! Nibali and Pozzovivo stick to his wheel! Into the final kilometre, what would happen?!

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno6-3.jpg

Pozzo can't follow! Navarro is riding all the way to the leaders jersey!

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno7-3.jpg

Navarro wins with a large gap! It looks like he'll be on the podium twice today!

i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd443/Teddy_The_Creator/tirreno8-3.jpg

And although he did all he could, Pozzovivo comes in too late. 2'10 too late in fact, and it seems he'll move down to the bottom step of the podium.

Very good race for Pozzovivo, hope he can keep this Top3, good luck Wink

It sucks that you lost the overall lead but great that you are still on the podium and achieving your main goal, hanging on to the KOM jersey. Just great all-around riding in Italy. Keep it up!Smile
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring.
