Albasini was better then I expected. But i wonder if there are no big sprinters in the Volta?

BTW, the break won. It's not like Albasini won a mass sprint, shown by the results. He was by far best rider in break though. They broke away and on last climb Alabasini broke away.

Alex, startlist is in the first post Wink

Van Hummel won the peloton sprint. He actually learned how to climb. Shock

The stage wasn't hard at all. The last climb was at 4%average. A lot of people think because he came last at Tour he's a shit climber, but don't take the fact that many sprinters gave up and abandoned the race whereas Van Hummel always made it within time limit on mountain stages.

Gastauer was part of the break, but was dropped and even caught by the peleton in the end. Saying before people say he's a good sprinter Pfft

The stage looked hard on the stage profile. It included one category 2 climb and 1 category 1 climb.

They were overrated a bit and far from the finish. Whole peleton came together, shows the stage wasn't hard at all. Wednesday will decide who wins it. Will be interesting if Alabasini can limit his looses, he can possibly get Top 10 for GE, which would be nice for them with no climbers.

According to the Steephill preview the 3 climbs were:

ALT DE VILADRAU 15.5 km 3 %
ALT DE COLL FORMIC 9.2 km 4 %
ALT DE COLLSACREU 9.3 km 3 %

Quite long climbs but practically false flat gradients.

Similarly tomorrow's 'massive' last climb is actually not that steep at all.

It will reduce the bunch to about 30 - 50, but nothing else. It will be a sprint where Valverde is big favourite or yet again another break victory.

Frown The profile lies!

Also, todays stage was sort of dull, Albasini is a deserved winner. The final KM with the will they catch the rest was quite fun though.

A bit boring stage, still nice win for Albasini. Hopefully today someone will try it on the last hill, more probably sprint of the reduced bunch, Valverde? Smile
I'll be back

Valverde was dropped, think Mechanical. Omega driving crazy pace now for him not to come back..

Bottle has his revenge on Moivstar then, lol Pfft
