Thanks (Sutty), Tombak really showed all his experience for that win.
For the rest of the season I might go through pretty quickly. |

Tour of Denmark
(Simmed)
Augantis were present at the tour of Denmark. It was a race in which most of the sprints were dominated by NSP. Timo Thomel lead out man for Rene Obst won 2 stages with Obst in second place twice.
The stage which decided the classification was stage 4 a break got away, Thomel tried to bridge the gap late on but couldin't manage it. Beyer (Augantis) was in the break which propelled him up to forth overall. Kasper Larsen won the breakaway stage but in the time trial Ralf Matzka who was also in the break was the best on the day which propelled him for overall success. On the time trial Augantis had Raivis Belohvosciks on the podium.
Overall:

Story post #23
Paris-Correze
Here Augantis sent a weakish team. The best performance for the team no doubt came from Dmitry Gruzdev, who has shown improvement towards the end of the season. On stage one towards the hilly finish, Gruzdev managed to get over the last climb in the leading group of 9 or so riders.
Stage 1 was taken by Roux and stage 2 and the overall was won by Dupont, Gruzdev lost a bit more time on stage 2 and finished 16th overall.
Tour de l'ain
Staying ing France the same team was sent to a longer stage race. This race saw little success, Jerome Coppel wrapped up the overall following on from a decent tour de france.

Story post #24
Coppa Bernocchi
Ahh, back towards racing in beautiful Italy, with many riders being from Italy in the squad this was a great morale booster. This race was always going to end in a sprint. After being injured most of the season Liquigas's Peter Sagan looked to shine here. But Galimzyanoc was too strong, Biondo (Augantis) put up a good performance aswell.
USA PRO CYCLING CHALLENGE
This race was characterised by bad weather, seemingly daily changes in the overall classifaction through those pesky breakaways, and lone breakaways if Augantis's riders have anything to do with it, of which there was 2 in the whole race. (From Bernatonis and Vasilev).
This shot shows Vasilev on a solo breakway desending in the snow. He almost made it to win but was caught in the remainding kilometers by a larger break behind.
The overall was wrapped up by Sven Nys, after the Belgian cyclo-crosser was in a successful break in one of the stages.
The best stage for Augantis came on the last stage. With a depleted group, Augantis looked to ride hard with (Joearr and Ivanov) to set up Bernatonis for a sprint. But unforunately, Luke Roberts was on the wheel and was simply too fast.

Story post #25
Giro del Vento
On a great day for racing a breakaway managed to stay away from the bunch by two minuted ten. The winner was Cieslik who rode away with Rovny from his breakaway companions. Biondo (Augantis) put in a good performace showing his climbing has definetly improved. Augantis were so impressed with Cieslik that they tied him down to a contract for next season shortly after.
Other races:
Schall Sels - won by Andy Capelle (Augantis were there but made little impact in Belgium)
Tour of Poland- Won by Thomas Voeckler
Vuelta a Burgos- Won by Bradley Wiggins
Vuelta a Portugol- Won by Nairo Quintano
GP Camaiore- Won by Lieuwe Westra
Eneco Tour- Won by a storming Fabain Cancellara
Tour de Limousine- Won by Anthony Roux
Tre Varesine- Won by Failli
Coppa Agostoni- Won by Gavazzi
Dutch food valley- Won by L Howard
Trofeo Melinda- Won by Frapporti
GP Stade Zottegem- Won by F Amorison
Vattenfall Classics- Won by Cancellara
GP Plouay - Won by Ben Hermans
Settimana Lombarda- Won by Bert Grabsh
Tour of Spain-
Won by Igor Anton( groundbreaking as he won his second tour of the year)
Phillipe Gilbert was the real story of this vuelta though. As he finished second overall and took the points and mountain jerseys as well. Samuel Sanchez rounded off the podium.
Transfer talk
With many shock dealings taking place, there is speculation everywhere. Augantis were about to bid for Ben Hermans as he was still out of contract, decided against it then he really shocks by winning GP Plouay and sky rockets in value.
Andy Schleck moving to Liquigas (with no brother) is arguable the biggest move of the summer.

Cheers sutty68.
With some great signings and a good new sponsor I am really looking forward to season no.2.
Also hope you saw that screenshot in the snow at the USA pro cycling challenge: that's a keeper. |

Story post #26
Moving onto Septempber, the penultimate month of the season, and for many riders the most important with the world championships coming up.
Conseil General
The first race of the month saw Nicholas Roche claim another win for the season. Not the best race for Augantis, with no riders really showing any good form, mainly due to lack of racing since the end of the summer months.
Giro del Lazio
This race was won by Tomas Noze (Adria Mobil) after slipping away into a break. It was race Rebellin, Finetto or Biondo could have done something if the form was there. Neverless Noze's performance caught the eye of team Augantis and we managed to sign him up for next season.
Reviewing Finetto's season, despite showing clear improvements in climbing short hills and in the sprints in training he has struggled all year to get into decent form, despite picking up a win earlier in the season.
GP de Fourmies
This race was won in a mass sprint by Russell Downing. A well deserved result for Endura who have been knocking on the door of gaining a good result in the sprints.
Tour of Britain
This is the squad Augantis brought to the tour of Britain.
With the terrain Augantis were hoping that Biondo would be able to do something overall, but with competition such as Hushovd and Farrar it was always going to be difficult.
This shot shows Puccio leading the peloton through the tight narrow roads of Britain. This really was not a tour to remember for Augantis. One day along the narrow roads only Baranauskas in decent form (who was supposed to be helping Biondo) managed to stay in the main bunch of around forty riders. Shortly after that Buividas withdrew, not being able to handle the pace.
Even when Biondo managed to get into a successful break he struggled over the final climb along with Pozzato meaning Salgueiro won that stage and eventually the overall.
The real highlight for Augantis was the penultimate stage. Baranauskas was still in the lead group. In the closing kilometers Voight attacked, Baranauskas countered. With no chase behind, Baranauskas was closing on the wheel of Jens Voight..
but it wasn't enough. Still a second place on the stage was a great result for Baranauskas.

Story post #27
Grand Priz de la Somme
Here Ilesic of Augantis's rivals for second place on the continental rankings won for Team Type 1. Despite Tombak and Lassis both making the podium.
GP De Calais
This race saw Drujon formerly of Caisse D'espagne win with a suprise strong solo finish.
GP Industria
This race was won by Frapporti, proving he has matured into one of the very best puncheurs in continental riding in Italy.
He beat breakaway companions: including Cieslik; Hakanawa and Reichs just holding off the peloton been driven along by Augantis.
GP Toscana
The final race of the month saw Pozzovivo destroy the riders behind in tough closing kilometers. Rebellin showed well but no doubt would have hoped for better.

Other results:
World Championships
The world championships in Belgium saw world shattering records being broken by one man.....who was he..........
Fabian Cancellara. As he became the first man in history to win both the world championship road race and the time trial in the same year. The poor start to the season long forgotten.
In the road race a large break got away including Noze and Cieslik. Put the real action started in the last 50km. With a host of attacks.
Riders such as Jens Voight, J Rodriquez and Ben Hermans showed really well, but this was a two horse duel between Gilbert and Cancellara. The two riders rode away in the last 25kilometers.
On the flat with 15 kilometers to go Cancellara attacked, Gilbert had to work really hard to bring him back and had nothing by the time he caught Cancellara on the final climb to go past him.

Memorial Marco Pantani
The first race of the last month of the season saw a victory for Gabriel Bosisio to crown a very successful season for him. The course was slightly too hilly for Augantis's riders on the day.
Tour de Vendee
Yet another Italian took this race and it was Sasha Modolo who was able to outsprint everyone on the day.
Coppa Sabatini
After showing very promising signs in training Augantis entered this race really looking to do something special with Maurizio Biondo, who was now coming into good form.
The finish comprised of a number of laps ending on a steep climb. With no riders out ahead Biondo attacked on the penultimate time up the climb. He was able to power down on the flat and surged to a great victory just holding off the favourites. Callegarin (Team Type 1) great rivals to Augantis tried to bring Biondo back but couldn't manage it.
Paris Bourges
This race was one for the hard men/sprinters.
Davy Commeyne looked to be the fastest after Ivanov set Ben Jacques Maynes up for a decent finish.

Giro del Emilia
Historically David Rebellin does well here, but today he missed out to riders in better form. The finish was a fight between four riders Cunego wins showing the puchy finish in the race.
GP Beghhelli
This race saw attack after attack.
As demonstrated by Hakanawa (Nippo)
Augantis did their best to set up Biondo for the sprint put other riders were better on the day.
Paris Tours
Yet another win for Fabian Cancellara after an attack in the closing kilometers.

Giro del Piemonte
Bosisio won this one day semi classic showing very well indeed, Utelsilnord will look to emulate this great end to the season.
Chrono des Nations
Augantis destroyed the others in this long time trial held anually in France. Despite not being ahead at the checkpoints both Biondo and Ben Jacques Maynes managed a very strong last 10kilometers to take the top two steps on the podium.
Japan Cup
The last race of the season has dawned. Ivanov was the big hope here for Augantis. He regretedly didn't follow the winning attacks 5km out which saw Marek Rutkiewicz win the final race on the calender.
Other results:
Memorial Frank VandenBroeck: Won by Tom Leezer
Tour of Beijing: Won by Gilbert
Colombia TT and Colombia road race: Won by Uran Uran
Milan Torino- Won by Frapporti
Il Lombardia: Won by Damiano Cunego. |

End of Season
Final Continental Rankings
After battling out for second place with Team Type 1, ultimately Augantis couldn't manage to gain second place. Although third certainly exceeded expectations. Project team amazingly lost first place to Team Type 1 after leading all season.
Rider Rankings
After trying really hard to gain second place it appears it would have been all in vane. As along with Project team, Europcar were promoted despite doing nothing on the continentel rankings, the two were probably promoted as they were the best ranked continental teams in the super prestige rankings. Relegated are FDJ and Greenedge.
BMC were the best ranked team on the top tour, with Gilbert getting rider of the year acolades despite not being as successful as Cancellara.

Summary
Good points to take away:
Augantis achieved expectations and now have experience to build on with new sponsor Wikipedia for next season.
Good signings. Going into next season, Augantis have a considerably larger and skilled squad to work with.
Some good results by the 'underdogs'.
Bad points:
Not being invited to big races: Hopefully this will change next season with a more renowned squad.
Form: Getting riders into peak form for big races was a challenge.
Meeting sponsor objectives: Most objectives were not met, mainly because we couldn't get into the races. |
