Hopefully Gesink won't become the first rider in PCM's history to crash in a time - trial

If someone could do it it would be Gesink ;-)

Gesink not crashing and winning a race.
Congrats to alexkr00.
Also LL Sanchez did well to grab a podium place as Wildcard Team.
Nice reports Smowz. |

Bitter-sweet. Can't not be happy with a stage win and a 2nd place but, given the race it turned out to be, can't help but feel Bakelants missed a good chance to win a stage race.

Well, Schumacher's stage win is probably going to be one of very few wins we get this year, so I'm happy with that. But he could have done better than 8th I think.

Congrats to alexkr00.
Thanks. I really needed this win.
Problem is though, Gesink usually wins one stage race per year in the ManGame so I shouldn't expect another until next year

Seems like the hilly tours are too tough for the pure puncheurs, so it will be interesting to see what will happen to riders such as Boasson Hagen, Ulissi and many more next season given that they can only really compete in the one-days, and thus having a huge amount of racedays worth nothing. - Basically.

Gesink showed his great class, looked like he had pretty good control on the race aswell. And as a CTmanager, I really enjoyed Luis Leon's third, great result from a rider in the Continental Tour |

Stats wise Ginanni has been just about the best puncheur in the Cont division the last couple of years. Didn't win at all last year and picked up two short ones in the first season. Plenty of good puncheurs in the leading positions in this race I think.
It's far more risky to have a lot invested in a hilly leader than any other kind of rider I think. |

Its just the way the races turn out sometimes - Pais Vasco will hopefully be better for pure puncheurs next year.

But if you look at the top 10, there isn't many riders with less than 75 or so climbing. While there are some riders with not the best hilly stat, but a "good" combination of them. Like David Lopez Garcia and Joaquin Rodriguez.
Riders like Boasson Hagen and Ulissi should be up there instead. But it seems that if a puncheur doesn't have 72+ mountain, they just don't seem to bother for the tours.

SotD, thing with stage races is that they aren't only about mo/hill stats. There are some back-up stats that you also need to consider in stage races - RES and REC. Compare those stats for the riders you've mentioned and you might have an answer of why some are at the top and some aren't.
SN, any chance we might see an update of the rankings any time soon? Thanks.

Yeah I know Alex, but previously it didn't matter too much in races like this with only 5 stages + a TT. In the GT's it's obviously a different matter.
But I guess I'll have to look into the rest of the season before deciding whether or not 2 hilly riders is a good idea

Ponzi does alright, but then I don't put Ponzi in a stage race with another out and out stage race leader (like Popovych). I already figured out that Cyanide can't cope with more than one leader, I just make sure my one leader is backed up with the strongest hilly team I can muster
On the whole, fairly happy with the race. With these levels of performance, I don't feel like relegation is looming for me. Pity nothing came out of Ponzi's aggression some days, but, he can't dominate the PT like he almost did in the CT. Nice to win the youth jersey though, that's for sure!

I suspect that come the Ardennes, Lopez Garcia vs Pozzato and Ulissi will be a completely different story.

SotD, I dont think it helped sending crap-at-hills Lemoine to a hilly race like this. The game makes him the sprinter, and that certainly screwed over Pozzato on Stage 2 at least.
But yes, Im not totally happy with the way the mountain/hill ratio worked out here - its just a case of figuring out the right balance that PCM11 needs. Pais Vasco was never going to be a pure Puncheurs race anyway - as the hilly stages are in the likes of PNice, Tirreno and FBD later in the season.
Alexkr. The rankings are mostly updated, Ill have more time to finish that off after tomorrow.

Uh, I was expecting Trofimov to jump past LL Sanchez there, but he was surprisingly strong in the TT. Pity.
