Belgian rider Bart Wellens is in hospital (even at the IC!). He got fever after a training and his situation worsened pretty quickly, with problems with his heart (possible myocardial infection / endocarditis). He's stable now, but the situation remains critical.

True, Vos rides for Rabo Women Cycling Team.
Also worth a mention is that Vos crashed pretty hard half way the race. She was clearly in pain. Still, she won by quite a comfortable margin.

So today was the last World Cup race of the cyclo-cross season. Next weekend will be the World Championships. There are already some clear favourites for that race, especially in the Junior, U23 and women category.
UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup #8, Hoogerheide, NED
Elite Men:
Today we saw a very strong Pauwels taking the win and securing the World Cup. Stybar was able to hang on for a long time. Nys didn't have good legs today. Pauwels and Stybar now seem like the big favourites for next week.
1 | Kevin Pauwels | BEL | Sunweb - Revor | 1h02'01" | 2 | Zdenek Stybar | CZE | OmegaPharma - Quick Step | 08" | 3 | Klaas Vantornout | BEL | Sunweb - Revor | 14" | 4 | Niels Albert | BEL | BKCP - Powerplus | 35" | 5 | Rob Peeters | BEL | Telenet - Fidea | 38" | 6 | Sven Nys | BEL | Landbouwkrediet | 39" | 7 | Tom Meeusen | BEL | Telenet - Fidea | 41" | 8 | Sven Vanthourenhout | BEL | Landbouwkrediet | 57" | 9 | Radomir Simunek | CZE | BKCP - Powerplus | 01'06" | 10 | Francis Mourey | FRA | FDJ - BigMat | 01'18" |
Elite Women:
Marianne Vos dominated the women's race as usual. There was a heavy crash in the first lap. Sophie de Boer and Caroline Mani had to be taken to a hospital. Daphny van den Brand secured the World Cup victory, while Nash finished 3rd.
Spoiler 1 | Marianne Vos | NED | Rabo Women Cycling Team | 39'14" | 2 | Daphny van den Brand | NED | AA Drink - Leontien.nl | 01'28" | 3 | Katerina Nash | CZE | Luna Pro Team | 01'35" | 4 | Katherine Compton | USA | Rabo - Giant Off-road Team | 01'53" | 5 | Lucie Chainel-Lefevre | FRA | | 02'06" | 6 | Helen Wyman | GBR | Kona Factory Racing | 02'24" | 7 | Nikki Harris | GBR | Telenet - Fidea | 02'36" | 8 | Annie Last | GBR | | 02'49" | 9 | Sanne Cant | BEL | Boxx Veldritacademie | 03'16" | 10 | Pavla Havlikova | CZE | Telenet - Fidea | 03'24" |
U23 Men:
Lars van der Haar didn't start well, so he had to chase the surprising frenchman Alaphilippe for a long time. In the end he managed to catch him and beat him in the final lap. He also wins the World Cup.
Spoiler 1 | Lars van der Haar | NETHERLANDS | 50'09" | 2 | Julian Alaphilippe | FRANCE | 03" | 3 | Michiel van der Heijden | NETHERLANDS | 28" | 4 | Michael Vanthourenhout | BELGIUM | 45" | 5 | Tim Merlier | BELGIUM | 51" | 6 | Mike Teunissen | NETHERLANDS | 56" | 7 | Arnaud Grand | SUISSE | 59" | 8 | Gianni Vermeersch | BELGIUM | 01'05" | 9 | Arnaud Jouffroy | FRANCE | 01'14" | 10 | Emiel Dolfsma | NETHERLANDS | 01'21" |
Junior Men:
Mathieu van der Poel once again had little trouble winning the race. He wins the World Cup and will probably take the World Title next week.
Spoiler 1 | Mathieu van der Poel | NETHERLANDS | 43'04" | 2 | Anthony Turgis | FRANCE | 20" | 3 | Quentin Jauregui | FRANCE | 31" | 4 | Silvio Herklotz | GERMANY | 31" | 5 | Wout Van Aert | BELGIUM | 33" | 6 | Romain Seigle | FRANCE | 01'15" | 7 | Daan Soete | BELGIUM | 01'36" | 8 | Quentin Hermans | BELGIUM | 01'55" | 9 | Martijn Budding | NETHERLANDS | 02'07" | 10 | Yorbin Van Tichelt | BELGIUM | 02'19" |

So this weekend the World Championships will be held in Koksijde, Belgium. I found this site with live-streams, though I don't know if they work in every country.
https://www.sports...gspot.com/ (Just scroll all the way down, you'll get to the cycling section, with different live-streams to choose from)
Anyway, here's the schedule.
Saturday 28 January
Juniors 10:45 CET (Start at 11:00)
Men U23 14:30 CET (Start at 15:00)
Sunday 29 January
Ladies 10:45 CET (Start at 11:00)
Elite Men: 14:30 CET (Start at 15:00)
Pre-race favourites:
Junior:
There can only be one absolute favourite here, Mathieu van der Poel. Son of Adrie van der Poel and grandson of Raymond Poulidor. He has won 21 out of 24 crosses this season. Belgians Daan Soeteand Wout Van Aert, Frenchmen Quentin Jauregui and Anthony Turgis and the German Silvio Herklotz are the other favourites.
U23 Men:
This could be one of the most exciting races. World Champion Lars van der Haar is the big favourite, together with Wietse Bosmans, who is very strong on sandy crosses. Other favourites are the other Dutch and Belgian riders, Suisse rider Arnaud Grand and French rider Arnaud Jouffroy. American Zach McDonald might have a good result here too.
Ladies:
For the ladies' race there is only one favourite. Marianne Vos. Daphny van den Brand, Katherina Nash, Katherine Compton, Sanne Cant and Helen Wyman are potentiol podium candidates.
Elite Men:
The Elite Men World Champion will either be Belgian or Czech. Stybar will have a hard time with a very strong Belgian team, with sand specialists like Nys and Albert. Pauwels is in very good shape, judging by his impressive win last week. Duval could be the dark horse in this race.
The entire start list can be found here:

Juniors:
The Juniors race was really exciting. Van der Poel blew up in the first lap and was 16" down on Van Aert. During the race Van der Poel recovered and left everyone behind to become the World Champion.

U23
The U23 race was an absolute thriller. I've seldom seen such an exciting race. Bosmans was the strongest on the sand parts, but team play from the Netherlands prevented him from winning. Van der Haar finished it off in the sprint to claim his second world title.
