Stage 4 does look fairly tricky I wonder whether Gate and Patridge will stuggle to hang on.
This stage looks too difficult for Gate imo. I hope he proves me wrong though..
Unfortunately.. he didn't.. good job by Partridge defending his lead.. this stage was pretty much what I expected: several attacks and the peloton splitting into several smaller groups. Now it's time for another breakaway with Oz Cycling, mb2612
Yet again your wish, my command.

Damn so close
But it was a great attack by Hiratsuka. I'm just wishing the stage was 100 metres shorter.

Great stage
Our steady presence in breakaways finally payed off.
Kudos to Hiratsuka though, his effort was really good.
Now I'm looking forward to stage 6 and whether we can keep at least one Top 10 spot.
btw wrong profile for stage 5, mb2612

Greetings to rjc.. Locatelli is doing well here
Now Rabon has to step up and getting closer to Top 5 and it would be perfect even without stage win or being the team that leads/commands the race
Locatelli should defend his position and Monfort something between taking risks to step up and defending also his position

I was already surprised to see them riding downhill in the end. Then it would have been a really disappointing stage, but so it explains a lot. Next stage will be the deciding one for sure. |

I will concede that stage 5 was a bit of a disappointment but when you look at the profile it is difficult to see how much of a difference could have been made. Any attack would have been marked by the others in all probability.
Stage 6 is short but the last 50km look tough with a longish mid climb that I am guessing will have a strong pace up. Towards the end there is a little kicker and then an uphill finish - this is where the winner of this years race will be crowned.
The questions are:
1) Can Mori be present with the big two that is Bellis and Monfort?
If Mori can hold them Bellis will need to win. Personally I would say Bellis is favourite to get to the top of the GC somehow provided Rapha Condor do not have a brain drain and start to ride for Partridge. Then again Partridge could concievably hold onto the lead.
2) Will Rabon/Dowsett/Augustyn/any others from Jayco Red Bull also make it up there?
There are a couple of guys currently in the top 10 who may well struggle on stage 6 if they are not in a breakaway. It looks possible that my lot could have four or five riders in the top 10 on GC not sure.
3) Will the reporter once again be questioning Jayco Red Bull tactics come the end of the stage?
We know the answer to that one - of course he will

Sorry, the criticising of your tactics was mainly in build up to this stage, where you go so close to being perfect but instead miss out on everything.
I promise it's nothing personal

Congrats to Meji for the KoM-jersey. Jayco-Red Bull with a double, but they may feel sorry for being 2-3 in both GC and KoM so close..

Congrats to everyone - I feel most teams have come from this with something to shout about.

Although Jayco didn`t win the possible overall here, they are the big winner next to Rapha for me.
Bianchi and Emu Export are the teams that must be disappointed the most.
Puma with a very active riding, Oz in the breakaways and Meiji with the KoM showed some solid performances. |

My prediction that an outsider could get the overall through a breakaway wasn't too bad, although finally it wasn't possible. Very good racing by all the (few) teams here.

Atleast Meijij is taking home some points from this race, as I think this is one of our worst lineups all season actually.
That was a strong one-two by Red Bull.

I agree. You won't win but you'll collect a lot of points Smowz.
As to my team I'm very frustrated. Especially after Pires poor performance in this last stage, where he should be able to secure at least a top15 spot in the Overall. Anyway my decision to bring here my best sprinters was absolutely failed. Instead of exploring the lack of fast men here, we ended up wasting our domestiques which pretty much took our chances in the breakaways.
Bah....

I have to say I am delighted with the performance of the Jayco Red Bull riders here. For all the silly tactics during the stage the three lines that are relavant to me are:
Unsurprisingly Red Bull choose to put pressure on Rapha by throwing 2 guys in the break: Virganov and Gerrans.
Up the road the two Red Bull riders power clear of the rest
Red Bull get a 1-2 on the stage, with Gerrans ahead.
What could be more awesome than that - A British rider in a Grand Tour jersey midway through the race perhaps .
It would be nice if the team could consider working for a sprint finish on this final stage, but hell I don't mind if they through it away to some of the other teams for scraps. (as long as they don't effect my GC positions).
It would have been nice to have got my nose in front on GC, but hell I cannot be too greedy - top 5 is a season goal so I hope we have got that. The concern now is crashes .

Ouch... Criteriums really prove their dangerous sides.
Bianchi probably the biggest winner of today.
Jayco lost a few points, could have ended much worse actually, so in general still a winner of this race as also Rapha. |

Basically Bianchi were very lucky on the last stage.
Top 5 season goal achieved - Impey a disappointment here but I will take the 4 riders in the top 8 thank you. Impey ended up moving from 14th to 12th there too (despite not getting a time bonus!)
Cannot agree that Red Bull messed up every stage - last stage was a crash, that's unlucky. How can winning stage 2 and 6 count as messing up?
Anyway enjoyed the racing and reporting nonetheless mb

I don't see Jayco failing here as well.. This double-win yesterday was a great try imo and 4 riders within Top8.. who will complain
Crazy last stage.. two Oz-riders in the break again.. we brought a young team here and proved to be aggressive. A 2nd place in Stage 3 or 2 (I don't remember right now) was the best possible for us.. some Top-10 within other stages like today, it's okay. Too bad we missed a Top-25 in GC though..
Congrats to all stage-winners, overall-winner, jersey-winners (especially our Japanese friends) and an extra congrat to Jayco-Red Bull as well

What went for us here?
Rooijakkers went down the rankings here,
Locatelli went down the rankings before
Rabon not that good as he should have been (just that was lucky) and Monfort would be still 2nd GC with 1 second if Mori would have finished 4th

I don't know, just that every stage after stage 2 Red Bull looked like they could take yellow and every stage they didn't quite manage it.
