Garmin - 4th season Giro d`Italia
roturn
Thanks all.
@Freitas: Hope so, too. One of my favourite races, one that can be won pretty easy and the one I fail pretty often. Wink

Tour Down Under - Stage 1
Clare - Tanunda
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-1-1.jpg
Time for the first real race of the season. 139km, mostly flat profile suits the many sprinters in Down Under. Cavendish is the guy to beat. Greipel, Haussler, Boasson Hagen and Davis are the main contenders on the lightly uphill finish.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-1-2.jpg
Pretty many teams wanted to have a rider in the break today, although it is very unlikely to see a successful attack on the first day of a stage race. On the other hand the Tour Down Under showed in the last years how important the bonus seconds can be in the end.
Stybar (Quick·Step), Malori (Lampre), Howard (HTC), Viganò (Leopard), Urtasun (Euskaltel) and Turgot (Europcar) the most famous here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-1-3.jpg
With 14km to the finish the breakaway is over. But then it happened. Brent Rowe, who did the pace for Garmin crashes with the guys coming into the peloton. So most forming sprint trains are destroyed and also a big split in the peloton.
After a short check most sprinters seem to be in the first group, but with Goss and Felline we lost the sprint train for Haussler in the crash.
Sulzberger, last year winner of the final stage, crashed as also Matthews, Renshaw, Leezer, Degenkolb, Gasparotto or Wegmann plus many others.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-1-4.jpg
Actually just Haussler, Bobridge and Meyer did it into the first group, which has only 31 riders. All other riders didn`t just lose the chance for the stage win today, they probably also lost their chance for the overall win.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-1-5.jpg
With most trains being destroyed it`s only Sky setting up now for Boasson Hagen. Sutton and Bennati doing a brillian lead-out here.
Haussler found the perfect wheel behind the Norwegian and ahead of Cavendish, Ventoso and surprisingly Van Emden. Behind them a small gap, so the winner might come out of this group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-1-6.jpg
It`s Heinrich Haussler with another stage win for Garmin - Cervelo. He celebrated pretty early and for a short moment it looked like Boasson Hagen could overtake him again on the last meters but luckily not. Pozzato was amazingly fast in the end and takes the 3rd ahead of Cavendish.

The big peloton finished with +1'48 today including Goss and Felline. So our jokers already lost today and Haussler will be our single leader now.

Great win the Haussler! To bad about the crash, I bet Felline was looking for a good overall result here.

Pellizotti2
Great way to start the season! First the Australian TT and now this!

Too bad Goss and Felline lost some time, but Haussler looks to be in good shape and will be able to handle a sole leaders role I think.

Great start for Haussler! Hope you can get more Wink

MitchNL
Great start with Bobridge TT title and Haussler's stage win in Aussieland! I'm sure Haussler can win the GC (according to his hill and sprint stats).

gilles23
Nice start, already two victories!!

Thanks.
I guess Australian bonus and already a decent form with 64 makes it easier for Haussler. Wink He will need Goss and Felline on stage 3 and 5 for sure.

Tour Down Under - Stage 2
Gawler - Hahndorf
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-2-1.jpg
Another pretty flat stage for the sprinters. Can Haussler take his second win here and gain more time on his opponents?`Also possible that puncheurs like Martin, who lost time yesterday will come back today with a breakaway.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-2-2.jpg
9 riders form the break of the day. With Gasparotto (Astana) one of the puncheurs in here, too.
Stamsnijder (Leopard), Božic (Vacansoleil), Renshaw (HTC) are other good riders in there.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-2-3.jpg
Rowe and Bookwalter controlled the gap for most of the stage. With 60km to go Liquigas is supporting them for Cavendish as also Cameron Meyer is doing some pace now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-2-4.jpg
Shortly after the 10km mark the group gets caught and a sprint can be expected.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-2-5.jpg
Liquigas formed their train for Cavendish with most other sprinters hanging on there with Greipel or Boasson Hagen.
But on the right a bit blocked the Garmin riders are coming. Meyer-Bobridge-Felline-Goss-Haussler form a very strong train coming closer to the front row.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-2-6.jpg
But it`s Cavendish with his first win for his new team. Haussler was a bit blocked on the right at first and needed to wait for a gap but still finished on a strong 2nd today. So he keeps the lead by 6s to Cavendish. Also Goss showed that he is a top sprinter and finished on a strong 4th for the last lead-out man.

Another very good result with Haussler. Beating Cavendish isn't easy. Wink

Haussler might win the whole TdU I think.

Tour Down Under - Stage 3
Unley - Stirling
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-1.jpg
The 3rd stage is one of the hardest in this race. Especially the last 40km are pretty hilly. The finish is constantly uphill for some kilometers. Probably not too hard for most sprinters, but still a good chance for the puncheurs.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-2.jpg
It`s also a big chance for a breakaway today. So 16 riders from 12 teams try to create a gap to the sprinters.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-3.jpg
Too many for some teams including Garmin and Liquigas. So they were chased back and now 6 riders were allowed to ride away.
Strongest rider here probably Nick Nuyens (Liquigas) and Sylvain Chavanel (Quickstep). But also Chérel (Ag2r), Geslin (FDJ), Matthews (Rabobank) and Monsalve (Androni) are definitely good riders. All of them are already +2'04 behind race leader Haussler.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-4.jpg
Oroz (Euskaltel) and O`Grady (Leopard) attack with 50km to go and try to join the group. They are also +2'04 back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-5.jpg
With 9km to go the gap is still 1'45, so no danger for the overall, but probably one of them will win the stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-6.jpg
Monsalve had big problems on the climb and surprisingly also Nuyens.
So it`s Cherel, who takes the win ahead of Geslin and Matthews as also the 2nd puncheur Chavanel was exhausted. The form will come later in the season.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-3-7.jpg
46s later Boasson Hagen finished as 5th ahead of the former breakaway rider Monsalve and Haussler, who keeps the lead. Even better that they gained 15s on Pozzato, Nuyens, Ventoso and Vandewalle and even 42s to the next group.
The bigs were much bigger than expected today. And great for Bobridge, who stayed in the first big group. So he improved on the 6th today, while Meyer lost some time.

Next stage will be on extreme again. Wink
I though it would be harder but then I can also switch to extreme.

Then I am already more experienced with PCM11, when the AI is fit in March. Wink

Why the hell would you try to convert your awesome story to PCMDaily V1 when the A.S.O.DB 2011 is available for PCM11 Wink, don't know if it is to late but I can help, otherwise I have to find somebody else for the A.S.O.DB Story of the year award Pfft, cus you definitely won it for pcm10 with your Garmin story last season!

I would also started a story with the aso but the thing with the variants is a
big risk i think. otherwise the aso is just great!

Another great result with Haussler. Good luck on extreme.

Great result! Hope you keep the lead. Smile

You've created high expectations for results, but are so far delivering! Two days in and two wins! Shock

Great to see you continuing this story on PCM11. Personally, I find it much more enjoyable then 10. Especially in hilly stages, where I always struggled to create any realistic time gaps. Now, groups split up, come together on downhills and flats, etc. I'm excited for Roche in the Ardennes.

I don't comment as much as most, but I'll be reading.

+1 Other than the whole playing PCM 11 part, sadly Sad

I'm also excited to see what you can do in the Ardennes. You dont have Gilbert, but you have many hilly riders that can podium in those races, like Hesjedal, Roche and Sanchez. Should be cool to see the battle for leadership in those races. But thats still far away.
