Paris - Nice
Stage 5 - ST-Symphorien/Coise - Vernoux-en-Vivarais : 185.2kms
After 3 breakaway wins in 4 stages, finally a punishing mountain stage. One of the favourites should pull their finger out today and make a move. I expect lots of action from Schleck, Contador and the RadioShack boys.
Favourites: Schleck (LEO), Contador (SBS), Vinokourov (AST)
The rain was falling pretty heavy on the start line and it looked as if it may be a dirty race.
The first breakaway started to form and it contained some good riders such as J. Brajkovic and V. Gusev but Yuri Krivstov slipped on a corner and tumbled onto the road. Luckily, all other riders avoided an early pileup.
The leading group of 10 riders had a 6'15" lead over the group.
After a while they started to fall back, and the now 8-man group only led by 1'34 heading towards the Col de la Mure climb. They reached the climb and the break was gone. Several attacks from Kreuziger, Vinokourov, Schleck, Voeckler and Luis Leon Sanchez put the race into overdrive. Most of the team was out of energy but Nicolas Roche was comfortable at the front of the 5th pack. Kreuziger and Schelck were in front. Voeckler, Vinokourov and LL Sanchez were following.
J. Hivert and Alberto Contador were attempting to attack but weren't getting anywhere. With 2.6kms to go, Kreuziger is looking very strong and attack again. Schleck doesnt follow. It turns out to be a wise choice as Kreuziger fades. Schleck is in pole position now and anything less than a win would be a dissapointment. The two go at it. Schleck looks stronger and just takes the win. Great victory. Surprising not to see Contador there, he must be out of form. Voeckler takes third.

Paris - Nice
Stage 6 - Rognes - Aix-en-Provence : 27.2kms
The decisive individual time trial is this stage and some rankings changes are surely going to occur. Our leader Simon Gerrans struggles a little bit in the TT but Rein Taaramae and Nicolas Roche look to get some good times. Luis Leon Sanchez of Rabobank is also in a great position to snatch the overall lead.
Favourites: Martin (THR), Zabrisikie (GRM), Contador (SBS)
Team Sky's B. Intxausti is the first to set off.
M. Elmiger was the fastest of the first 5 to start with a time of
18'02. Lars Boom then set the next best time, wiping off '45" off Elmiger.
T. Van Garderen set off soon. He was not having a great Paris - Nice, he was 115th in the overall rankings. He would try to set a good TT time though.
Tim Roe was the first Nike - Heineken rider to set off. He is a decent time-triallist but he is slightly unfit so will probably not make a splash today. Danny Pate, a good TT man, set off next but is slighly out of form. He struggled over the first half but had a very strong finish and was 6th overall. Tim Roe was 10th.
M. Montaguti set the next best time, but I. Konovalunas pipped him straight away with a time of 16'47".
South African R. Hunter was wearing the green jersey and looked to hold it all the way to Nice. He set off next.
British TT champ Brad Wiggins would have been aiming for a podium finish this year, but that nasty crash in stage 1 left him 7 minutes behind and he hasn't been better since. Maybe a good TT will lift his spirits.
Our next rider to set off was Matthew Lloyd. He generally struggles in the ITT's and was just looking to stay in the top 50.
Bradley Wiggins finished 4 seconds behind I. Konovalavos, who is till hilding his lead very well.
As predicted, Lloyd did not do well on the first timecheck, being 1'27" behiind the leader in 115th place.
Dave Zabriskie set off and was definently one of the favourites to take out the stage. Expect him to set a new best time. Andreas Kloden, also of RadioShack and a great TT man, set off soon after.
Branislaus Samoilau, set off in his Belarusian champions jersey, and looked to set a good time.
Alberto Contador was next, and we all know about his magnificent TT ability.
Rein Taaramae, one of our top hopes, started and was aiming to grab a top 10 spot and take the young riders jersey.
Zabriskie and Coppel both set the next best times. Zabriskie posted a 16'22" while Coppel was '21 behind.
Nicolas Roche was also off, and was aiming for a top 10 spot in the GC. Samoilau also set a good provisonal time, 1'00 behind the leader.
Young riders leader Roman Kreuziger also set off. A great timetrialist, he would be tough to beat in the young riders rankings today.
And finally for Nike - Hieneken, Simon Gerrans set off. He is not know for his TT ability but can still stay in touch with decent ride.
Tony Martin finished his ride, 9" behind D. Zabriskie. Zabriskie now just has to hold off L.L. Sanchez to take the stage.
The final rider, Frank Schleck set off with one goal in mind. Keep the maillot jaune.
Nicolas Roche put in a great provisonal time and is currently in 5th position, 26" behind Zabriskie.
Taaramae finishes and he put in a great time also, finishing 9th. Luis Leon Sanchez delivered, finishing 3rd at the timecheck.. Unfortuanntely for Taaramae, Kreuziger looks in fine touch and put in the 4th best provisonal ranking.
Roche didn't have a great second half, checking in at 22nd place. Gerrans finished well, overperforming and taking 32nd.
After a great day of TTing, Zabriskie takes it. Suprisingly, Frank just holds on to the leaders jersey by 7 seconds over Luis Leon Sanchez, who put in a great ITT.
Stage Rankings:
Spoiler 1. D. Zabriskie - Garmin - Cervelo - 37'43"
2. L. L. Sanchez - Rabobank - +22"

Tirreno - Adriatico
Stage 3 - Terranuova Bracciolini - Perugia : 185.6kms
Favourites: Cavendish (THR), Greipel (OLO), Boonen (QUI)
Another simple bunch sprint and everybody finished with the same time. Cavendish gets his second win in 2 days. Farrar follows in 2nd and Petacchi takes 3rd. Hushovd is dissapointing in 47th.
Mark Cavendish is enjoying his Tirreno - Adriatico so far. Just wait until he gets to the mountains

Paris - Nice
Stage 7 - Brignoles Biot - Sophia Antipolis : 215.1kms
This is probably the most important stage of the whole race. Frank Schleck is in pole position to take the win. Contador has not made a move and his TT was underwhelming. Team Nike - Heineken will look to keep all three riders (Taaramae, Roche, Gerrans) in the top 10.
Favourites: Schelck (LEO), Contador (SBS), Kreuziger (AST)
The first break formed around the young HTC rider Tejay Van Garderen. The 14 man break had a 1'52" lead. Karsten Kroon took the sprint and mountain points uncontested.
With 153kms to go, David Veillux and Ju. Simon attacked and tried to join the break. They were caught though and faded back into the pack.
Tejay was riding very well and forcing the lead to increase 4'45"the front of the break.
The peloton reached the start of the main climb up to Cote du Mont Meaulx and then Cote de Cabris and Nike - Heineken and Leopard Trek where all over the front of the pack.
Timothy Duggan was the first rider to reach the top of Cote du Mont Meaulx. The lead was growing on the climbs and was now up to 6'06". Matteo Tosatto took the points on top of the climb and now headed downhill.
Nearly the entire group of riders reached the top in one group except earlier leader S. Van Marcke who had fallen back slightly due to an earlier puncture. The lead was now at 7'28 for the breakaway and we're looking good despite a tempo increase in the peloton by Rabobank.
Matteo Tosatto took off and took the mountain points in the break. He was now 6 points behind David Le Lay in the KoM.
The lead was now down to 5'00".
With 25kms to go, finally somebody made a move. It started with Yarolsav Popovych and it continued as all the starts attacked including Schleck, Contador, Voeckler, Martin and Gerrans. Contador, Voeckler and Martin were up front, while Schleck and Gerrans followed. All these guys were still a couple of minutes behind the break.
Just as he started to make up ground on Contador's group, Schleck has slipped on the turn and had a nasty fall! He is now behind the peloton and will need to catch up if he wants to hold the leaders jersey.
Just as you would have guessed, Luis Leon Sanchez attacked and Taaramae and Roche stuck to his wheel.
Voeckler set off and passed the breakaway, who had now been caught. Only 20kms to go!
Everyone was chasing but Voeckler, Sanchez and Popovych were the only ones ahead.
Amazingly, Frank Schleck had caught back up with the pack and was back in front of the break! His legs must be hurting really bad right now!
Cunego was off trying to catch the three in front. 10kms remaining..
The three were caught and now Popovych attacks again, trying to take the lead! Voeckler follows and passes. Sanchez also follows and is now on Voecklers tail.
2.5kms now and Sanchez and Voeckler had a 10 second lead in front. They were caught in the last kms and a mass climbers sprint is ON!
Movistar's Lopez Garcia comes out of nowhere and looks good for the win! He takes it, what a way to win! Out of nowhere!
Voeckler takes second and Sanchez third. After all that, no real changes in the GC..
Stage Rankings: Spoiler
1. D. Lopez Garcia - Movistar Team - 5h56'57"
2. T. Voeckler - Team Europcar - +0"
3. L.L. Sanchez - Rabobank - +0"
4. A. Vinokourov - Pro Team Astana - +0"
5. D. Cunego - Lampre - ISD - +0"
...
7. F. Schleck - Leopard Trek - +0"
13. S. Gerrans - Team Nike - Heineken - +0"
19. N. Roche - +28"
20. R. Nocentini - +28"
23. R. Taaramae +28"
24. B. Samoilau - +28"
57. M. Lloyd - +4'19"
75. T. Roe - +6'29"
76. D. Pate - +6'29"

Tirreno Adriatico
Stage 4 - Narni - Chieti : 228.7kms
A hilly stage that ends in a very short but stinger of a climb. An interesting result will surely follow. Phillipe Gilbert is my favourite for the stage, he really seems to be performing on the climbs recently. Sanchez is slightly unfit but will do his best. Hesjedal and Chavanel are here also.
Favourites: Rodriguez (KAT), Sanchez (NIK) , Gilbert (OLO)
Nothing happened for the first 45kms before a break formed contaning 12 riders, mainly sprinters.
The peloton reacehd the climb up to Sella di Corno 6'00" behind the break. The climbs here were very steep, getting up to 16%!
Many sprinters were at the fore of the apck including leader Mark Cavendish, J.J. Rojas, Matt Goss and Gert Steegmans.
Francecso Gavazzi won the 5 points at the top of the climb. The pack was now 7'33" ahead of the pack.
By the time the pack reached the top of the climb, nearly all the riders were in either the peloton or the break except 3. They were Saxo sprinter J.J. Haedo, Kiwi J. Sergent and Farnese Vini sprinter A. Guardiani.
The break was now descending down the mountain and were going down inclines of 19% at speeds of up to 85kms an hour!
Finally on the downhill with the break ahead by 5 minutes, someone attacked! Johnny Hoogerland and J.I. Gutierrez were off and more were surely to follow soon enough.
Hoogerland went past Gutierrez and was increasing the pace.
70kms now and Nick Nuyens joined in on the attack, attempting to join the pair up ahead.
20kms to go now and although caught earlier Nuyens and Pozzato go back at it. Gilbert, Bertagnolli and Porte join them.
The front pack was now established with Gilberta dn Rodriguez in front and Sanchez, Scarponi and co. following.
Gilbert is doing very well and takes the win. Sanchez takes 7th.
Note: I'm thin on time, so overall and stage rankings will be posted tomorrow. |

Paris - Nice
Stage 8 - Nice - Nice : 123.8kms
The very short last stage should not affect the final overall rankings but could change the KoM standings. Frank Schleck will celebrate a great victory here in Nice..
Favourites: Schleck (LEO), Vinokourov (AST), Gerrans (NIK)
The stunning landscape of Nice was absolutely amazing for the start of the race and the first attackers we're enjoying the view.
Nothing happened all stage until 17kms to go when many stars attacked. Contador, Vanenderrt and Kolobnev were at the front with Hivert and Voeckler behind.
They were soon caught and a large break, containing 26 riders, mainly all top-20 riders.
In the last 3kms, many riders seemed to sprint prematurely and many fell back. Sanchez was ahead but Cunego was closing fast. Sanchez celebrated and just took it on the line. 10 more metres and Cunego would have won it. Schleck finishes 3rd to close out his overall victory over L.L. Sanchez by a single second!

Great prep for the Giro and Tour for Frank, who will celebrate a great victory tonight

@mattie524 I haven't posted in so long because for some reason PCM deleted the save game of this story. Very frustrating, I can't continue this story. By the way, what about this story did you like? And what don't you like about the Tim Roe story? Are you sure it is not just because Tim Roe is still in the Tour Down Under and not very far in the season? Thanks a lot for all feedback. |

ohh thats annoying! it did that to me too once!
its not so much that i dont like tim roe's it just that i like this one a lot! cause it's a custom team with a custom jersey you have some stars in your roster and a great roster might i add and the writing is brilliant. good balance of photos and text which not much people get. I love how you put in all the results for the sprints in spoilers and its easy to keep track of stuff. its awesome how you put the top 10 and stuff for the jerseys at the end of each stage too
yea with tim roes story its good but its only focusing on one person. Its not custom either. And yea maybe it is because your not too far into the season. but i like it how a tea follows everyone where as the one person story is a good idea i just like the custom team stories better. and in teams there is more stars. I know in Tim Roe's there is Cadel but your not really focusing on him. I like team ones because there is more than one rider to follow and the roster you had was pretty good. i liked Hushovd, Sanchez, Lofkist, Taaramae and Renshaw. thays what i think. but if you want to do the Tim Roe story id still probably follow but i reckon another team story would be awesome. maybe even with the same roster. or you could tweak acouple of people. i also realised you only have 20 riders but i thought the maximum was 25. so unless i am wrong or miscounting you could add some more riders too
well i hope you have considered this feedback and just make sure whatever you do, that it pleases YOU. that YOU have fun making it. that YOU enjoy reading it. Yes listen to the good feedback most of the times but with bad feedback it doesnt matter. as long as there are a couple of followers and a fair amount of views by the time youve finished the first couple of races then its a good story.
well man i hope this helps you but just remember, whatever makes you happy, chose that. |

Thank you so much mattie524. That was really helpful. I was writing a Liquigas story but that also got deleted! SO annoying! I may start a new one with a custom team, maybe that one since I already have the jersey. I could just change it to a US squad or something, because I think an Aussie team with all those great riders is slightly unrealistic...
Thanks again for the feedback, and hopefully my other stories don't get deleted. |

well thats good to hear
ye i hate it how it careers get deleted!
yea Australians are actually pretty good when you look at it. O'Grady, Porte, Renshaw, Goss and Roe! I think an Aussie story would be good but maybe you could cut down a bit on the top Aussies if you'd like. or of course as you said you could switch to US but itd still be good to see some Aussies in there but like i said before do what makes you happy.
Yea hopefully neither of our stories get deleted |
