Tour de Langkawi Stage 6 Report
Rawang - Putrajaya Loop 139.3km
"The focus now shifts to the green jersey as the GC is almost certainly sorted. Today's stage had a climb at the start and 3 laps of a circuit at the end. Just 3 riders in the breakaway who were pulled back by CCC Polsat. As we entered the last 7km, our leadout was going brilliantly with Grivko at the front, but as he pulled off Stannard got blocked by a CCC rider and we fell way back. With Karapetrovic struggling with the high pace and Blythe feeling excellent on the day, we told Adam to go early. He flew past Pedersen, Schulze, Forero and Ista but the line came 50 metres too soon as Kocjan (Team Type 1) held on by a wheel but Blythe still extends his lead in the points competition. Tomorrow we will hope for a bit more luck."

Tour de Langkawi Stage 7 Report
Banting - Tampin 165.3km
"Our worst stage of the season so far in terms of results. After the first breakaway was caught, Blythe easily won the first intermediate sprint. That would prove as good as it got. A break of 6 riders went away and built up an 8 minute lead. We took up the chase and again received no help. We got the break down to 2 minutes but only had Roche to help Blythe in the sprint. The break made it and it was Delfosse (An Post) who won comfortably. Just behind Blythe got completely blocked with no way through the rest of the sprinters and finished a miserable 20th. We asked for more luck, we got less."

Tour de Langkawi Stage 8 Report
Kuala Pilah - Jasin 165.7km
"Wow, that was incredible. Today was a hard day. It took 90kms for a break to form and when it did our very own Dan Lloyd was in there just in case the break made it all the way again. Of course it didn't, but why not? The pace was so high that our young Italian Montanaro just couldn't cope and climbed into the team car with 25km to go after dropping way out of the peloton. He was the lucky one. Under the 5km banner Grivko and Lorenzetto came together taking down Blythe and at least 60 other riders. Whilst only 2 were seriously injured (both PSK riders), the field was decimated and as Roche became our sprinter, second placed man Kiserlovski got caught out and came home in the final group!! Not only did Nico move up to second in the GC, but he sprinted to third on the stage! A superb stage for him and for stage winner Valentin Iglinskiy of Endura. However, yet another unlucky day for Blythe saw him lose the green jersey by a mere two points. What. A. Day!"

Tour de Langkawi Stage 9 Report
Melaka - Nilai 146.0km
"Break stayed away again today as Pieter Ghyllebert took the win for An Post. But in the bunch sprint Blythe comfortably beat Kocjan and earned back his green jersey with just one stage to go. He couldn't beat Ista though which is a bit worrying with tomorrow's stage being very short. It should be perfect for Blythe but he is really feeling the previous nine stages in his legs."

Tour de Langkawi Stage 10 Report
Shah Alam - Kuala Lumpur 95.6km
"The Tour finished with a short stage taking in 5 laps in Kuala Lumpur. The breakaway was caught fairly early which made the finish a lot less hectic. For once our leadout worked perfectly, we weren't blocked or affected in any way by anybody else. However, when Blythe kicked, he had absolutely nothing left in his legs and struggled to simply pass his leadout man. A very disappointing 7th place combined with a 2nd for Kocjan means we don't take any jerseys away from Malaysia but Roche of course picked up 2nd overall which is a great result with his low level of fitness at this early stage of the season. Also a well deserved win for Kevyn Ista of Trek who had been getting stronger every day."

Summary
A week full of bad luck for the team, Blythe was easily the quickest sprinter at the start of the tour but got weaker as others got stronger for some reason. 2nd place is always a good result and for Roche to get that against the whole Astana team is a very good effort. Other positives were the strong start of new signings Grivko and Lloyd and the fact that neo-pro Karapetrovic was rarely troubled with this level of cycling. A well earned rest for everyone now as we head back to Europe. My next assignment is the Vuelta Andalucia which will be exciting to follow. See you then."

Just to correct your jersey presentation:
The 2012 jersey of Team Apple - Powerade is designed by the independent studio simply named Malone.dk, who primarily got experience with webdesign, but took on the challenge:

This is a 6-stage race held in the small Gulf state of Qatar. It starts off with a very short prologue and then has 5 pan-flat stages. The winner is therefore almost certain to be a sprinter.
Because of the profile it is difficult to know what tactics to use. Do we work for our sprinter every day, or do we try a late attack with Cancellara or even Thomas. We shall see.

Tour of Qatar Stage 1
Doha Cultural Village ITT
Favourites: Cancellara, Hushovd, Farrar
A ridiculously short time-trial that should see a head to head between Hushovd and Cancellara. Hushovd is in better shape as he has already done the Tour Down Under whereas this will be Fabian's first race of the season.
Our first rider off the ramp was Geraint Thomas (pictured) in one of his favoured disciplines. He set the very early benchmark of 3'15".
First Roulston, then Lang and then Quinziato (pictured) knocked G off the top as the times got quicker.
Then HTC rider Grabsch (pictured) went a second quicker than Quinziato not long after teammate Rasmussen had done the same.
Off camera Alex Dowsett put in a great time just 1 second off the lead, but not far behind Tyler Farrar (pictured) put in a superb time of 3'07" which looked unbeatable.
Ignatiev went quick as the team leaders hit the course but quicker still was young American prodigy Taylor Phinney (pictured) for BMC. Just one second behind Farrar.
Only two riders were left, Fabian and Thor. Cancellara (pictured) was still wearing the World Champion's jersey that he lost in September for some reason. Obviously he feels that Tuft was doped and so he is still the rightful winner . As I expected his poor fitness level meant just 4th place for the time-trial great. But Hushovd couldn't displace his teammate and went 3rd with the same time as Phinney. American 1-2.

Due to the fact that Phinney will wear the points jersey tomorrow, Dowsett gets to wear the young riders' jersey for one day at least. Not a bad start.

Tour of Qatar Stage 2
Dukhan - Al Khor Corniche
Favourites: Farrar, Bennati, Petacchi (this could get repetitive)
Flat, windy, probably a sprint. Nothing else to say really.
Dowsett was wearing the white jersey today
The BOTD contained 13 riders, the highest profile of whom were Lucas Haedo and Egoi Martinez.
Sprint results
Spoiler
1st Rubén Pérez (Euskaltel)
2nd Francesco Failli (Farnese Vini)
3rd Lucas Sebastian Haedo (Saxo Bank)
Spoiler
1st Aldo Ino Ilesic (Type 1)
2nd Alexander Kristoff (Endura Racing)
3rd Eduard Vorganov (Team Katusha)
A sight that we'll be seeing a lot more of this week, the peloton strung out in single file. Almost 70 riders would eventually lose contact including some top sprinters.
The pace was so high and the wind so strong that it was virtually impossible to form a leadout and with Thomas and Kittel separated they both gave it everything and tried to follow whoever they could. Fortunately Kittel found Hushovd's wheel and flew to a decent 6th place. Tyler Farrar won by about 15 bikelengths and he already looks like he has this race sewn up.

Omg I really dislike the our of quatar, it's just always the same. Every stage is flat and ends in a mass sprint. Good luck, hope you can win some stages.

Yeah, I know, it's really boring but I'm just trying to get it out of the way and get people some fitness. I might try a few attacks with Cancellara though. Kittel hasn't got a chance against Farrar.

Tour of Qatar Stage 3
Camel Race Track - Doha Golf Club
Favourites: Farrar, Bennati, Petacchi
Flat, windy, bunch sprint, probably.
At the beginning of the stage there were numerous attacks which were controlled by Garmin and, oddly, Santambrogio (BMC) by himself. We managed to get neo-pro sprinter Amptill into one of them but as people kept attacking the group got brought back. Eventually though, a break formed and it involved 3 riders. They were Bole(Astana), Willems(Omega-Pharma) and Celis(Endura).
Sprint Results
Spoiler
1st Cesare Benedetti (NetApp)
2nd Scott Zwisanski (UnitedHealthCare)
3rd Wilmar Jair Perez Muñoz (Colombia es Pasion)
Spoiler
1st Vidal Celis (Endura Racing)
2nd Frederik Willems (Omega Pharma)
3rd Grega Bole (Astana)
With 20km to go Cancellara went on the attack as he was feeling good but he was never going to stay ahead of Garmin for too long and the pace was now very high.
Coming into the sprint we set our train up but Kittel never made it to the front and decided to sit on Matty Goss' wheel which proved to be a great decision as Goss ended up 3rd and Kittel improved on yesterday's result with a 4th. Ahead Farrar proved he is human as he was nudged into 2nd by a very quick Bennati by half a bike length.
As the rest of the peloton rolled in together unlike yesterday, there were no big changes on GC and we still have two guys in the top 10. Janiaczyk(CCC) finished 24 minutes down after a crash and was eliminated.

Tour of Qatar Stage 4
Al Wakra - Mesaieed
Favourites: Farrar, Bennati, Goss (Petacchi's been rubbish so far)
Same as the first 2 stages.
Yet again there were so many attacks it was impossible to know which one to follow but young Amptill followed the wrong one again! Eventually 6 riders got away. They were Rasmussen(HTC), Ginanni(Androni), Hesselbarth(NetApp), Fernandez(Euskaltel), Schmitt(United Healthcare) and Hayles(Endura). Here they are going across the finish line for the first time.
Sprint Results
Spoiler
1st Koldo Fernandez (Euskaltel)
2nd Francesco Ginanni (Androni Giocattoli)
3rd Alex Rasmussen (Htc)
Spoiler

3rd David Hesselbarth (NetApp)
As the gap between the break and the peloton decreased Bole(Astana) attacked and both Cancellara and De Maar(Quickstep) went with him. They quickly rode up to the break and then Fabian kicked again and only De Maar could go with him. However, as yesterday, Garmin just kept riding and brought them back with 15km to go.
Today, Kittel tried a new plan, sit on Farrar's wheel the whole way. It seemed to be working fine until Hushovd and then Haussler hit the front at very high speed. Kittel had nothing left when Farrar kicked and dropped way down. Just to prove me wrong, Petacchi got 2nd but Farrar won yet again as he closes in on overall victory.

Ben Swift Interview
Young British sprinter Ben Swift (Team Apple-Powerade) took some time out from his training today to tell us about the Tour Down Under, his team mates and the Tour de France, as well as lots of other things. Read the full interview below.
Interviewer: So Ben, you've just got back from Australia, where you picked up a victory on the very first stage. And after winning the overall last year, you must really like racing in Australia?
Ben Swift: Yeah, it's becoming a bit of a habit winning in Australia! It's certainly something that I want to replicate in Europe though as there's only one race in Australia. The team is getting better and better at leadouts and with G (Geraint Thomas) in the team, who is currently one of the best leadouts in the world, I think there may be more success later on.
Int: You were at this team from the start, infact you were the second signing the team made. What do you make of the signings over the winter and do you think you'll be able to stay in the ProTour?
BS: The signings are fantastic. I mean Gilbert is the greatest puncher out there, possibly ever and then you've got Chavanel who just won in Australia, and Eddy (Boasson Hagen) who I know from my year at Sky to be a phenomenal talent, so it's looking good at the moment. And, yeah, of course we'll cope with the ProTour. We've already won the only ProTour race so far and with guys like Fabian (Cancellara), Gilbert, Chavanel, Wiggins and Sanchez, we will definitely pick up some wins somewhere.
Int: The team has a strong British core. Who do you think is the Brit with the most ability, either currently or in the future?
BS: Well, obviously Brad is at the top of the sport right now, he's a fantastic rider. First Brit to make the podium in Le Tour is huge. G is one of the great all rounders, I couldn't believe his performance in Le Tour last year (he took the yellow jersey in the team time-trial and held it all the way to the Pyrenees). In the future, I think Peter Kennaugh's your man. He's going to be one of the best climbers in the world, I can tell.
Int: Speaking of the Tour de France, do you hope to go again this year or will someone else get a go. Especially with all the strong signings the team has made?
BS: I have no idea at the moment, but of course all 30 riders in the squad would love to do it. I'm no exception. Even though I won the Tour Down Under, coming 2nd on the Champs-Elysees was my best result last year, and I would love to get the chance to go one better this year.
Int: When and where will you next be in action?
BS: I'll be doing Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne which is a cobbled race in Belgium at the end of February, and then I'll be off to Paris-Nice in March.
Int: Finally Ben, are you enjoying being part of this team?
BS: Absolutely, we're a very ambitious team with loads of talented youngsters. As a 24 year old, it's the perfect place for me to grow and improve as a cyclist. There was a reason why I signed a contract extension last year.
Int: Thanks a lot Ben, Good Luck for the rest of the season.
BS: Thanks
Next Week: Geraint Thomas

Tour of Qatar Stage 5
West Bay Lagoon - Al Kharaitiyat
Favourites: Farrar, Bennati, Petacchi (just for a change)
Flat, windy, 99.9% certain to be a bunch sprint.
Again, the plan today was to get someone in the breakaway, but this was proving very difficult in this race. First Cummings tried a half-attack just to see if it would be possible to get away. It wasn't. So then Terpstra tried. He was joined by Grega Bole but the peloton rode so hard that it just proved to be a waste of energy so he sat up. After 50km had passed, a break finally formed. It had just two riders in it, Bauer(Endura) and Quintana(Colombia). A few trees in the distance all that can be seen in the vast nothingness of the Qatari desert.
However, when Benedetti(NetApp) attacked, Dowsett followed and these two were then joined by Leif Hoste(Quickstep) to form the BOTD.
Sprint Results
Spoiler
1st Niki Terpstra (Team Apple-Powerade)
2nd Grega Bole (Astana)
3rd Simon Spilak (Lampre)
Spoiler
1st Nairo Quintana (Colombia es Pasion)
2nd Jack Bauer (Endura)
3rd Alex Dowsett (Team Apple-Powerade
After the break had been caught with 20km to go, the pace in the peloton was really high and it split in two. After his efforts, Dowsett was in the second and, here, Amptill is sitting in between the two groups as he dropped back.
As the sprint launched Kittel was yet again placed incredibly badly after he had lost Goss' wheel but Cancellara was placed very well and almost got a top 10. At the front, Petacchi, (who has clearly been charged up by my doubting of him ) beat Bennati. Just. And with Farrar finishing 3rd, he has confirmed his victory in this tour, unless a breakaway makes it to the end, which is highly unlikely.

Cancellara moves back up to 5th as Phinney disappears from the top, which also means Kittel moves into the white jersey with just one stage to go.

People following this (if there are any ), I know that the Tour of Qatar is STUPENDOUSLY boring but any feedback really motivates me and lets me know that you still want me to carry on. Also, if you want me to I may carry on with the interview thing, once a week. If you have any preferences as to who you want to hear from on goals, form or the future, just tell me and I'll "arrange" it.
Thanks.

Ok, I will comment this one
This is an nice one, I had an similar one once with Rapha Condor and I managed to be promoted with an worse team than yours, so I am sure you will make it!
However, here is some tips: First, use jpeg/jpg files for your screens. People with an bad internet connection (like me) can't load all screenshots so I can only read the text or wait for 10 minutes. Download an converter or do it with Paint.net. Patience is an key here, it adds an extre piece of work but I converted 30 screens for one report in mine Philippe stroy so if you want to do it, you can make it!
Secondly, if you keep the story going for long and writes good reports or something extra people will read an comment your story. Once again it's an question abut patience and time. I have the patinece but not the time

Thanks mate, I read your Rapha story. I really liked it, didn't Thomas win the WC? Anyway, I will look into the jpeg thing, thanks for the advice.
And of course, I plan to keep going for at least a season, its just if nobody comments at all, its really difficult for me to keep doing it as I feel I'm talking to myself. I'm sure you know that stories are about entertaining others as well as yourself and interaction between the writer and the readers.
I'm not saying I want everyone that reads it to write "well done" and that's it, but even if its just one person every couple of days, that will really help.
