Now into stage 9 Schleck has yet to wear pink, but after today things could be different.
Gerdemann slips into today's morning breakaway, which is a relief for the other Leopard-Trek teammates as they won't have to chase.
Gerdemann is getting no help from the other breakaway members, and decides to go solo halfway up the first big climb.
There was one move in the peloton on the first hard climb, and it came from Christian Knees and is followed by David Arroyo from Movistar.
Linus Gerdemann is all alone on the top of climb, and can only dream if the same could happen for the last climb.
At the base of the climb his dreams are turning closer and closer to reality.
The climb starts 20kms for the finish, Gerdemann is running out of energy just looking at the climb.
Vasil Kiryienka again makes the first move, as the peloton picks up Arroyo and Knees. With only Gerdemann further up the road.
But it just wasn't meant to be as Linus and Vasil are put back into the peloton. So now the race turns over to the shoulders of Andy Schleck.
Hold up, Kiryienka still isn't done yet.
Vasil is again caught and is now struggling to stay in contact. Now with 5kms to go the other favourites have yet to show their hands.
Kiryienka is finally dropped, putting Schleck in virtual pink.
Andy couldn't be happier, and decides to make the gap grow. He is countered by a strong Cadel Evans today.
Evans takes to the front with 1km to go.
But it's Scarponi who comes out of nowhere.
Michele Scarponi takes the win, but Andy Schleck takes the overall lead. With an easy flat stage to rest tomorrow.

Well, Andy got outsprinted again on final km, but another 3rd is still nice and the race-lead is great  Looks good for Andy so far, but Evans and Scarponi can become dangerous.. I like Kyrienka's aggressive racing, btw

After an easy flat stage yesturday for Andy, the long journey to keep it for another 11 stages starts today.

Niki Terpstra starts the day off, and Fuglsang tries to get in it to take some pressure off the team to chase.
But the other teams aren't going to let Leopard-Trek off the hook so easy.
Leopard now sends Thomas Rohregger, put this group also fails to get away.
Quickstep tries again and Dries Devenyns successfully gets away.
A few kilometers later Cunego thinks he can slip away.
Leopard-Trek aren't going to let him get away that easily.
As the chase pulls Cunego back, Rabobank's main man Bauke Mollema runs into some bad luck with a flat tire.
Devenyns is still in the lead 20kms from the finish ...
Now back in the peloton, Di Luca decides to break free. But he is pulled back a few seconds later.
His capture lures Cunego to make another attack, which is countered by Andy Schleck.
Quickstep couldn't care less as their man Dries Devenyns has the finish in his sights.
Devenyns brings home the win for Quickstep. The fight was now on for second.
Andy starts the sprint, but Scarponi is coming strong.
Scarponi edges out Schleck for 2nd, and Evans takes 4th.

The sprinters days are over with the rest of the stages classified as hilly, mountains, or time trials. So the winner of the Giro could easily walk away with sprint and mountain points competition as well.
After a few morning attacks fail to get away, the active attackers of David Arroyo and Sella show them how it's done.
Leopard-Trek takes to the front for Andy. And gets the job done pulling back both Arroyo and Sella right away.
Christian Knees is the next to make a move on the small hill before the final climb.
But when Knees is caught 4kms from the top, Vincenzo Nibali makes a surprise attack.
Nabali is pulling away with 20kms to go, and the final climb is in view.
And as the road kicks up, Nabali's lead is holding strong at 3'30''.
With nobody willing to make the move, Andy takes up the challenge himself to catch Nibali with 1km from the short downhill leading to the 3.6km climb to the finish line.
At the top of the climb Schleck can see Vincenzo a few seconds up the road. And he won't have to deal with any followers behind him.

Schleck has a 20 second gap back to Nibali who is joined by Scarponi with 1km to go.
At the finish, nobody can compare to the strength and willpower of Andy Schleck today, unstoppable. His 2nd stage win, and makes the GC gap grow to 1'08'' over Scarponi.

Well ...  I have maxed out my Photobucket bandwidth for the rest of the month. So you will notice the stupid boxes everywhere. So during this 4 day span I will be moving some files to new accounts so I don't get the same problem next month. This also means I have to put the story on hold for a few days. I'm really sorry for the delay, and more than anything mad at myself for not seeing this coming.

Giro d'Italia Stage 14
Andy looks for back to back wins to strench his overall lead.
Morning breakaway of 10 men, including Valerio Adnoli of Liquigas-Cannondale, and ofcourse Emanuele Sella of Androni Giocatolli who seems to be almost everywhere in this Giro.
Then there is the other man, David Arroyo making a move off the front on the small hill leading up to the two monster climbs.
It doesn't take long for the favourites to create a gap off the front of the peloton without a single attack. Andy is still has both Fugslang and Pires in this elite group.
Pires eventually falls off, and few other average climbers jump on as the group makes it over the first climb.
As we start the crucial climb Arroyo, Sella, and Adnoli are still out front as David tries to get away.
With Fuglsang off the back, Schleck has to counter the first move made. And it happens to be Garzelli and Scarponi, Andy and pretty much everyone in the group isn't going to let that go.
They quickly find themselves right up next to Sella and Arroyo. But Andy won't settled for that, and shifts into another gear.
And with 1km to go, Andy Schleck is riding away. But does Scarponi have enough strength to show another amazing sprint.
No he doesn't! And with a sigh of relief, Andy has won his third stage of the Giro.
But more importantly streches his lead again with a dominant win.

Giro d'Italia Stage 15
"Andy on fire ..." can he burn the road up today, or will the flame burn out?
The morning breakaway gets away with 8 men including Rohregger from Leopard-Trek, they are eventually joined by 3 more aswell.
The peloton doesn't seem to care as the group has a 8 minute gap over the early first climb.
Team Lampre is forced into the chase role for Scarponi since Leopard-Trek is in the breakaway.
Now on the second major climb of the day, Rohregger decides to go out alone 130kms away from the finish.
It takes the peloton until the next climb for Mollema and Pinotti to make their move. Rohregger is still up front with the other breakaway riders already caught.
Garzelli attacks when Mollema and Pinotti are pulled back, Rohregger can be seen in the distance.
The next attack comes 1km from the top by Scarponi when Rohregger is overtaken. Schleck counters the move in hopes for his third straight stage win.
When they reach the top, it's just Schleck and Scarponi with the other climbers in the group a minute behind.
But with 20kms to go, the downhill allows the chasing group to catch back up since neither Schleck or Scarponi want to lead.
Now with 10kms to go all the favourites are in one group heading to the final climb.
Andy doesn't wait to counter this time, he puts the press on everyone else to chase him.
When he looks back he sees Scarponi trying to hang on, so Andy lifts the tempo again.
Some friendly supporters on the mountain today as Schleck is riding away.
1km to go, Scarponi is joined by the others.
But today belongs to Andy, his 3rd straight stage win, 4th total, and grows his GC lead out to 4 minutes and 12 seconds over Scarponi. Schleck now has a strong grip on the Giro and perphaps can start looking forward to the Tour.
