Did you play any betas? No. Then how do you know that the beta testers didn't "influence the appearance of [the] final product"? |

and as Crue points out beta testers get nothing for their efforts just like when we make Database projects for the community.
Difference is that i see some great results of database-making efforts but definetely i dont see the results of some testing of 2010 edition (maybe it could be even worse without testing?)

The beta testers didn't receive anything in neither 2009 nor 2010, so that's a wrong assumption.
Okay,I didnt know that. But as i know that i am even more confused why they do it at all-they do it for free and they cant really influence the appearance of final product (as i was said)-so does it make sense?
Btw. bad work is bad work - paid or not
maybe we do it to help cyanide make the game as good as possible so everyone including ourselves can enjoy the game?
beta testers are not designers. Their job is to test the game - nothing else.
EDIT: you can't compare results when looking at database projects and beta testing. When you download a DB you know what you had before and therefore you can see all the improvements a DB maker has done for the game.
when you play PCM on the other hand you don't know how the game looked before the beta testing. It's obvious you can't see the good work done by many beta testers when you have never played any version before the final product.

I was said that the beta-testers write down the list of errors they discovered and then it is up to Cyanide to deal with them. So the final bugs were not discovered by testers or Cyanide didnt listen to testers if that information is right
And i would be very glad to play the beta-but if my feelings about this so called testing is right, there will be closed area of people doing it every year,or is there a way to be choosen?

I'm not going to say that beta testers find every bug in the game - they don't. After all, there's a lot more players in the world (to find bugs) than the selected beta testers.
But with that said, beta testers do find a lot of bugs, and most of these are fixed. Some can't be fixed in time for the release and are fixed in the patches. Some aren't found until the game is released, and some bugs are created by Cyanide (not on purpose, of course) in the time from the last beta to the final product (which is not tested).
The beta testers this year were not picked by Cyanide, but by a selected (by Focus) group of community managers / owners.
I'm not sure what you're really trying to say -- I mean, even after thousands of people played the game, there were still unresolved bugs after the last patch.
If you want to blame the testers, feel free to do so - but really, they are doing their best. |

I believe they are doing their best and i certainly dont want to blame them, but we all can see that in 2010 something really bad happened, maybe time to change the publisher if possible

Focus were in charge of getting beta testers this year. At least Focus tried to make the game good.

What PCM needs is a compatitor, another cycling-manager game. If they are the only one making a cycling game, they wont be challenged and "forced" to make the game even better.
Like:
- FIFA vs. PES
- NBA 2k vs. NBA Live
- MLB 2k vs. MLB The Show
And so on

If other companies thought they could earn money on such a project, they would have made game a long time ago. I simply don't think the market is big enough for two games, and Cyanide has worked with cycling games for over a decade = hard for others to take up the competition.

I would say that NBA 2k and NBA Live is the same developers... remember that EA lost the rights of the NBA... and 2K continue with the game... I think with the same developers... just like Football Manager and Championship Manager (FM keep the owners and CM the developers) |

Changing subject a little. If we can pre-order the game the 15th and download it, why can't they just put a release date for the activation keys? The game seems to be finished seeing as we can download it tomorrow. |

It's a good question. It doesn't seem logical that we in the month of the release still don't have an exact release date.
But I guess it will be announced tomorrow. |

It tends to be on a Thursday, so either its coming this week, or on the 24th - when Amazon UK still believe the game will be released.

while I agree that the beta testers are doing their best for the love of the game, the release of the last game was an insult.
to release a half finished game and say "we'll fix it later with patches" is just wrong. what about the people who buy it with no access to the patches?
you say that the testers can't find every bug, but how did they miss the fact that the sprints didn't work and why did Cyanide release a game with such a major and obvious floor? it's like FIFA 2011 being released with a bug that makes it impossible to score a goal.
think i'll wait to see what this game is like before buying it again. |

Just out of curiosity, can you mention any newer game that didn't have any patches? |

Even console games get patched these days.
Time can dull perceptions - I wasn't planning on buying this years version. Last year was dire.
I suppose the silver lining of that is I feel I haven't really played PCM in a couple of years so should come to this version fairly fresh. The beta was encouraging too and it's also the second version with this engine, and they generally are better than the first versions, if that makes sense. |

Right point, but you must admit that usually the bugs are not so game-stopping and usually patches come out in weeks, not months

Eyolfur wrote in the French forum that it will be announced next week on the 23rd.
At least if I understood the French correctly. |
