Team B&O | Congrats Alex
SotD
Hopefully Contador can win his first ever race here. He doesn't need to take that much time for it to happen, but I think it will be very difficult, and top 3 is still my goal Smile

Good luck Wink

Pluchkin wins Tour of Catalonia

Before this season Alex Pluchkin has won one stage race in his two years at ProTour level, the Tour of Romandy in 2010. Something has happened over the winter this time though as after less than two months of racing in 2012, the Moldovan has taken part in and won two races.

In January he pipped Rigoberto Uran with one lousy second in Tour of Oman and just today another Vesuvio-Accumalux rider, this time in the shape of Beñat Intxausti, was denied by the B&O captain, this time in a more comfortable fashion, winning with just under a minute.

This means that Aleksandr Pluchkin will be ranked in 1st in the World when the first Pro Tour Rankings of the season will be unveiled at the end of the month. Riders like Ben Swift, Frank Schleck and Jan Bakelandts could all go close though with a big result in the upcoming Milan-San Remo.

Winning the Pro Tour though is not on the team captain's mind though.

"I'm not thinking about that. In theory you could go all seasonb without a single win and still be crowned first on that list. That's probably not gonna happen though, but I'd rather win races than concentrating on the PT rankings. My ultimate goal this season is the Tour de France, but before I'm only focusing on the road ahead. Now I have a small break before Tour of Romandy, which I won two years ago and I'm looking forward to facing guys like Robert Gesink there, who seems to be coming into form nicely right now.

On another note I would just like to put emphasis on the team once more and especially Andriy Grivko, who was also so important to me in Oman. This was never possible without them. I feel stronger than ever this year and I look forward with confidence."

Apart from Pluchkin's exploits, the team's 2nd Stage Racer, Nico Keinath is leading the team at Paris-Nice, where he currently sits in 8th Place on GC.

Keinath with career best performance in Paris-Nice

He has been with Team B&O since 2009, but never won individual glory until now. Nico Keinath has always had the potential to do big things and although progressing not as fast as team captain Alex Pluchkin, the strong German has now shown glimpses of his big potential.

He did wear the pink leader's jersey of the Giro d'Italia last season, finished in 2nd in one stage while wearing pink and in the end finishing up at a very respectable 20th Place. Now he has gone to the top in the recently concluded Paris-Nice, by finishing in 6th on GC and winning the white young rider's jersey ahead of World Champion Tejay van Garderen, a big result by the youngster who's dubbed to become the team's Giro Captain in many seasons to come.

"I am a very happy cyclist right now - not only because of winning this jersey, but because I was able to help the team gain valuable points for the Rankings. It's an honour this one, managing to outwit the defending World Champ in the battle for this jersey and I feel a lot stronger this season. I'm hoping to be able to do something similar in Murcia, but again this year I'm gunning for the Giro. I still need to progress a lot as a climber to fight with the other Top 10 riders, but I feel I will get there."

Drucker very close to big upset

The cobble season is off and Team B&O has, quite surprisingly, made a solid mark on the first two races despite not being amongst the favourites in these kinds of races.

At Omloop Het Volk, the team's strongest cobble rider, Luxembourgain Jempy Drucker finished inside the Top 20 in 19th place after having ridden disciplined throughout the entire course staying at the front of the pack until the finish. Drucker has a nice history in this race aswell finishing in 3rd Place back in 2009 and 7th just last season.

It got even better though in the next race, this time in Britain at the new East Midlands Cicle Classic, where Jempy Drucker attacked mid-race alongside Pearl Adidas' Stijn Joseph. The pair stayed away until the last 15 kilometres where they where brought back by a select group of favourites who would settle this between them. Tom Boonen took the sprint, but Drucker stayed close and secured a minor upset as he finished 2nd behind the very strong Belgain. Milka - Vittel's Sam Bewley wrapped up the podium.

A big result for Drucker and a very nice bonus for the team indeed no one would expect them to be podium candidates in any of these races. Next up is Rund um Köln where Edvald Boasson Hagen will try to avenge himself after a dismal start to the season.

Keinath takes first career individual win

Nico Keinath has had a very good season so far finishing 6th in Paris-Nice and taking the young riders jersey on that same occasion and apart from he just finished inside the Top 20 in the Giro d'Italia.

La Vuelta didn't start as well for the young german or the rest of the team for that matter. What has been a grueling course has cut the team's participants down to just two riders, that is Keinath and Grivko.

While the team has struggled in the overall classement the team has been very effective getting good stage results. Just like in the Giro, dutch powerhouse Steven Kruijswijk has just beaten to the line taking second place in one stage. The same thing has happened to road captain Grivko, who also hit another succesful breakaway getting him a 3rd Place to add to the collection.

A lot close but no cigars, apart from one result that saw aspiring stage racer Nico Keinath taking his first individual win of his career. This happened in stage 13 where the German was one of the animators of the stage and after an excellent ride took the win from his breakaway companions with a strong finishing dash.

This took Keinath on a bit of raid up the GC ranks, but it seems even with another two stages to go that his current 22nd place is not going to be transferrable with anything better.

Pluchkin dominates Tour de Suisse, ready for France

He has already won two stage races so far this season and today he did it again. Team Captain Alex Pluchkin took his first ever overall win at the Tour de Suisse to record not only his third GC win of the season, but also his first two stage victories in 2012.

The Moldovan took charge already after the second stage and never looked back. The only rider who could follow Pluchkin's raw accelerations on the inclines was former Tour de France Winner Markus Fothen. He never came close though as Pluchkin dominated the race also winning the points competition and the young riders competition.

It's widely known in the professional peloton that Pluchkin's biggest objective is to win the Tour de France. Last season he finished a personal best 4th, but the Moldovan has seemingly hit the form of his life and he is looking to profit from that at the biggest scene in professional racing.

"Once again I had great support from my team and I'm very happy I could deliver and not let my teammates down. Martin [Hacecký] and Andriy [Grivko] were vital for me in the mountains and the rest of team did perfect protecting me in the flat stages."
...
"It's no secret I'm very confident about Le Tour this season. I have never climbed aswell as I am right now and that has put me over the top. It's a real quality field at the Tour though and I see Angel Madrazo and Simon Spilak as my main competition here."

So the Tour de France is not far away anymore and the Team B&O Media Center will warming up for the race with interviews with the riders taking part in France for the biggest race in the world of road racing.

Tour de France Profile - Thomas Riber-Sellebjerg

Name: Thomas Riber-Sellebjergi218.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/jolly_anutnes/daily/DEN.png
Professional Since: 2009
Most Important Result: 2011 Danish RR Champion
Tour de France Appearances: Debutant
Best Tour de France Result: N/A

Thomas has had a silent career, pretty much only stepping up when his captain has needed his help. He's got great pace on the flat and as a true Danish road cyclist he knows how to handle cross-winds, meaning he will be of big importance to captain Pluchkin, should the wind become a factor.

Q: What part of racing Le Tour are you most looking forward too?

TR: There are more things obviously. From an individual perspective I'm ecstatic about getting to show off my Danish RR Champion Jersey at the biggest event on the calendar. Also getting to work with Alex at the biggest doodle in his calendar, shows me that the team has a lot of faith in me, but all together just lining up for this race is a life-long dream come true.

Q: Which stage do you see as the most decisive?

TR: With such a star-studded field this season with Madrazo, Spilak, Cunego and Alex obviously, I wouldn't be surprised if the race was settled in the final time trial before the Champs Elysee stage.

Tour de France Profile - Troels Vinter

Name: Troels Vinter i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/jolly_anutnes/daily/DEN.png
Professional Since: 2009
Most Important Result: Continental Tour Team Rankings Winner
Tour de France Appearances: Debutant
Best Tour de France Result: N/A

The second rider of the Tour de France team is also Danish and a first-timer in the race. Vinter primary job will be to help Pluchkin on the flat and to lead out the team's sprinter Kobe Vanoverschelde, should the Belgian find himself in a good position. Troels may also be given the chance to join an early break in one of the latter stages of the race.

Q: When you mention Team B&O talking about Le Tour it's always about Pluchkin and his chances of winnning. But what about Vanoverschelde, does he have a chance of a good result?

TV: I don't see why not. Kobe is incredibly fast and could race with most of the big names when he is on form. He won a stage at La Vuelta in 2010, so he has proven himself to be cut out for the mass sprints. He may not be the fastest of the pack, but on a good day he could also take a stage win.

Q: Who's your favourite to win the Tour de France, apart from your own team captain?

TV: Damiano Cunego is very dangerous. What he lacks in time trial ability he makes up for in hilly terrain. He's been dominating the Giro the last many seasons and he is coming here for nothing but the overall win.

Tour de France - Week 1
Pluchkin shares race lead with Cunego!

The by far fattest doodle in the Team B&O Race Calendar is underway in France and it has been a very good start for the team's yellow aspirations.

the first week was mainly dominated by one man, Sony Ericsson's Yuri Trofimov, who almost singlehandedly outpowered the entire peloton to secure the yellow jersey after the first stage. The Russian did lose it again after the time trial in Stage 3, but a crash for new race leade Taylor Phinney, sadly saw the American lose the jersey and plummit down the GC.

The week ended atop the Puy de Dome, which made for the race's first mountain top finish. Team Captain Pluchkin was sitting in 5th Place before the stage trailing one of the biggest race-favourites Angel Madrazo by a few seconds.

The team lead by Guldhammer, Grivko and Hacecký did excellent during the whole day to set up Pluchkin, who knew what to do. That was of course to follow Giro Legend Damiano Cunego who put in the decisive attack. Pluchkin responded but what stuck behind Trofimov, so could never really quite close the gap on the strong Italian, who Pluchkin to a deficit of 33 seconds at the end of the day.

Madrazo and last year's winner Spilak, lost around a minute on a very strong Aleksandr Pluchkin, who is now sitting 2nd in the GC, having finished the first seven stages in the exact same time as Cunego. The Italian's stage win lifted him to 1st on the GC.

A great ride from Pluchkin, who has had his best ever start to a Tour de France.

Podium for Pluchkin at Tour de France

In the season of his career Team B&O Captain Alex Pluchkin concluded his season in great fashion to finish in 3rd in the General Classement of the Tour de France to no one less than Angel Madrazo and Damiano Cunego.

The Moldovan had a very consistent ride, though not able to shake Cunego in the mountains a single time. After week 1, Pluchkin was just a fraction of a second away from riding in the maillot jaune for the first time of his career. But through a very strong ride in the Pyrenees from Cunego and Madrazo, Pluchkin lost time on Cunego and had to see Madrazo pass him by on GC.

He showed his strenght over three weeks as a GT rider by beating both of his main rivals on the last mountain stage to Alpe d'Huez. Unluckily a strong group of climbers were up the road to clinch the stage win.

"It's been a tremendously tough Tour this year. Maybe because we had Cunego to deal with in the mountains. I was unsure about him before the race. About Madrazo he's really come from nowhere this season, and I'm very much looking forward to beating him in 2013.

I'm pleased with finally finishing on that podium. It's still early in my career and having a season like this one at this stage is ground-breaking for me. I've learned a lot this season and I'm coming back even stronger next year."

Apart from Pluchkin's third place also Czech climber Martin Hacecký had a very good race finishing 32nd with Grivko and Klemme in 40th and 42nd respectively.

Keinath ready for final part of season

The season is entering its final dash. All Grand Tours have found their conclusions, with the biggest of these having Team B&O rider Aleksandr Pluchkin on the final podium at the Champs Élysée.

While Pluchkin is done for the season, one of the team revelations this year, Nico Keinath is ready to secure the team a strong finish. The youngster has had a great year winning the white jersey at Paris-Nice including an overall 6th place at the same occasion. Add to that overall 19th at the Giro, plus 22nd and a stage win at La Vuelta, has made for a remarkable season for the stage race hopeful.

Next up for Keinath are the gruelling slopes of Colombia in the 12 stage race in South America. A continent new for the aspiring rider. A lot of mountains mixed with a final individual time trial in the last stage.

Backing up Keinath are climbers Hacecký and Guldhammer with road domestiques Sobota, Riber-Sellebjerg, Drucker, Juraj Sagan and stagiaire Rasmus Quaade.

Keinath who will lead the team through the South American mountains, said the following to the team website.

"It's definitely an interesting race. I have never raced in South America before, but I'm looking forward to lead the team and I hope I can perform well."

(...)

"By the look of it the mountains don't look as steep as they are in Italy in particular. This could be to my advantage. I would have liked some more time trial kilometres, but I guess this is how they put races together on this Continent. I'm not aiming for a place at the top as I know I still need to develop as a climber. But I have come a long way since last season already and I hope I can finish inside the Top 15 here. It will take a big dig from my side, but I have some good guys backing me up, and we will do our best to achieve our goal."

Keinath joined the team in 2010, and we hope him and the team can add to the team's stage win tally, which is sitting at three for the season.

Guldhammer wins mountain stage in Colombia

So far it's been a good season for Team B&O, mostly due to the massive year from Aleksandr Pluchkin and additional impressive results from Nico Keinath. It has only gained the team three stage wins though, but in stage eight of the Tour of Colombia, Danish stage race talent Rasmus Guldhammer secured number four.

The win came from Guldhammer's participation in the breakaway of the day, where he managed to stay with the break over the biggest climb of the race, to pip veteran Kim Kirchen on the line.

It was the Dane's first professional victory in his first season at ProTour level. Guldhammer has already had some great results on the 2012 ProTour finishing in the Top 20 of the Tour de Romandie and 3rd on the Alpe d'Huez stage of the Criterium du Dauphine.

This result far exceed the others though and it bodes very well for the future for the young climber, who is expected to lead the team at the Vuelta a España next season.

ember
Aker Solutions - Bergans' team manager, ember, has spoken to the Norwegian press several times about his "need" to have Boasson Hagen as a team leader for Aker - MOT in 2013.

Aker Solutions - Bergans was the only Norwegian team in cycling this season, and with the promotion and the increased focus on Norwegians ahead of 2013, there are strong rumours that ember's highest wish for the transfer season is to bring Edvald Boasson Hagen to the team.

For the reasons mentioned, Norwegian TV2 wonders whether there's any chance ember will accomplish what is said to be his highest wish of the transfer season; bring Boasson Hagen to Aker - MOT.

Hagen's agent has issued the following message:

"Edvald is currently taking some time off to contemplate his options for next season. All that I can say is that we are in dialogue with Team B&O, but have recieved offers from other teams. Nothing is decided yet and if Edvald can be better off elsewhere that's definitely worth considering."

Quiet end to the season

The season has come to a close. For Team B&O the highlight consisted of one man. Team Captain Aleksandr Pluchkin who had a formidable season.

After young hopeful Rasmus Guldhammer's stage win in Colombia, only a few minor races remained in the 2012 season. The most significant result came in the Tour of Ireland, where Edvald Boasson Hagen finally grabbed his first win of the year. The Norwegian has had his share of bad luck throughout the campaign and was clearly delighted to have soloed his way to a beatiful stage 6 victory.

Hagen also had a decent showing in the final race on the calendar when he finished 9th in the Tour of Lombardy.

In final team standings Team B&O slotted into 14th spot, with Vesuvio-Accumalux taking a dominant first place. The individual rider rankings were won by Santander's Angel Madrazo with Alex Pluchkin in 8th Place.

So with the races wrapped up the transfer season is about to start. Team B&O already has two riders coming in as the two loanees Michal Kwiatkowski and Nikias Arndt are returning from their stay at Continental level with the Vespa team.

The team will shortly be issuing its plans for the transfer season and sponsorship for the 2013 season, where B&O still has one year remaining on their contract.

One of their main targets is rumored to be the experienced all arounder of Team B&O Andriy Grivko, whose abilities are enough to possibly lead the team with one or two other domestic riders Metinvest also would like to chase. However Metinvest should be aware they could be new in the tour and riders like Grivko will be tough to get. Has B&O management any thoughts about this?

Team B&O manager expresses interest in Markus Fothen

The Danish outfit Team B&O last year claimed that they are looking to make pure stage racers the core of their team. Already having one of the absolute best riders in Alex Pluchkin and two big up and comers in Nico Keinath and Rasmus Guldhammer, the team manager has said to be interested in bringing in the former Tour de France Winner Markus Fothen.

"He was a subject last transfer season but we decided to bring in Arndt and Kwiatkowski instead. Markus is an interesting rider because he has the qualities that we are looking for right now."

Markus Fothen won the Tour de France in 2010 and has so far not extended his contract with Festina - CONEC.

Team Festina manager issues response to Fothen interest

"Yes Markus might be on his way out. The season he had was very dissapointing, but we are also very certain of his qualities, and that obviously is something we need to consider if selling him. Team B&O has a very exciting team, but lack the riders capable of standing next to Markus at the moment. We could be very interested in Edvald Boasson Hagen, and obviously Pluchkin, but to believe the latter would leave is a bit optimistic. The remaining team is, atm, not strong enough to be considered lead riders at Festina, and we need to make some deal including a leader, if we are to let Markus go. That is obvious atm. So eventhough riders such as Keinath and Klemme would be very interesting as domestiques, that is all they would be at the team. So realistically speaking a deal concerning Markus Fothen would also have to include Boasson Hagen at this point."

Team B&O Manager has issued following on the concerns regarding Klemme and Grivko:

"I haven't heard anything concrete from neither Volkswagen nor Metinvest about Klemme and Grivko. That being said, we are currently negotiating both riders' contracts and they are currentlt both very much part of the plans for next season."
