Oman didn't continue as we had hoped
After winning the team time - trial in Oman, we head to the last 4 stages of the race in a perfect position. At the end of the fourth stage, Vaugrenard managed to keep the leader's jersey, but not all was good news for us, as Gesink crashed and lost over 6 minutes, leaving Plaza as our only GC rider.
In the mountain stage that followed, Gesink did everything he could to help Plaza, but at the end of the day the Spaniard was only 7th in the general classification.
Before the final flat stage, we had an individual time - trial, where Jack Wolfskin were again at the top. Posthuma finished the stage with the second best time, being only beaten by Gesink, who showed that without the crash he would have been a serious contender for the overall podium. Ruben Plaza was able to move only one place in the GC though and failed to achieve our first goal of the season - a top 3 in Tour of Oman.
2 races, 2 crashes from our leaders

Another disaster. This time in Italy
With the 2 Asian races over we moved back to Europe for Tirreno-Adriatico, Paris-Nice, Volta a Catalunya triplet. First stop the races of the 2 seas.
Unlike Paris-Nice or Catalunya, we didn't came with too many high hopes for the race, with only Posthuma having a small chance for a top 10 in the GC and a nice chance to win the 9km time - trial.
But after 2 crashes in Oman and Qatar, why stop there? In the second stage there was a mass crash in the pack and surprising or not, Posthuma was caught there, making this his second fall for two years in a row in Tirreno. The crash did not only cost him time in that particularly stage but also gave him a slight injury which ruined all his GC chances.
Joost tried to recover for the time - trial, but he only finished third even though pre-race he was the big favorite. Hopefully Gesink and Plaza we will bring better results from France and Catalunya.
During the race, Paul Martens was seen for the first time wearing his German NC shirt

Gesink breaks the curse in Paris - Nice
This year's the race to the Sun started with a few flat stages and even though Kreder was there for the "orange wolves" we didn't count at all in the sprints.
Moving to the hilly stages, we had another unwanted surprise during stage #5 as Gesink hit the ground for the 2nd time this season. This time he was lucky enough to get back in time in the pack though and even win the stage!
Next day, after a nice time - trial ride he took the yellow jersey from Trofimov, but only managed to win 20 seconds over the Russian, not enough to keep the lead until the end though as the SE riders took the overall win home thanks to the bonification seconds won at the end of the last 2 stages, being a clearly better sprinter than Robert.
The French man, Sylvain Chavanel also managed a nice race for himself, while riding in the support of Gesink. On the 9th place, Chavanel was the best French rider of the race and a promise for a good TdF.
So far we spent more time on the ground than on our bikes

Good race by Plaza in Catalunya
After finishing on the podium in last year's race, Ruben Plaza was one of the riders to follow this year. And the Spaniard started his race quite well finishing second in the prologue, just one second behind the winner.
The race continued even better for Ruben as he grabbed a victory in the fourth stage of the race. In the mountains he wasn't able to follow the very best but like always he managed to limit the loses and maintain a fourth place in the GC after the queen stage of the race.
In the next stage there was a split in the pack and Plaza missed it just by a little bit, but also missed the chance to climb up to second in the final GC of the race. Still a fourth place in Catalunya given the competition this year is a real achievement.

Nothing special in La Primavera
After the first 5 stage - races of the season, it was time to move to the classics and what better way to start the classics' season that with the first monument of the year - Milano-SanRemo.
Following the bad results in the Paris-Nice sprints, Michel Kreder decided that he would rather try his chances in an attack. And the Dutchman went in the day's early breakaway and his race basicaly ended way before the finish line.
It was then Chavanel's time to have a go. At one point he was with the best riders and he seemed that he made the winning move, but sadly he was dropped from the main group on Poggio. He was brought back in the pack and our best rider of the day in the end was Sieberg - placed 17th.
Even though the season didn't have the start that we were hoping for, we are currently the 5th best team in the World, which gives us some hope that we could actually finish on the podium this year.

Problems in paradise?
As you might have noticed there have been no updates in our media section for months. The explanation for that is quite simple as at the moment there are some serious tensions between the sponsors and the team manager, which have also affected the media department.
Following the rather poor results from the start of the season, with 2 goals already failed, the Jack Wolfskin bosses are seriously considering not to renew the contract with the cycling team for 2013. Still, Gesink's win in Pais Vasco and Chavanel's success on the Mur de Huy give the manager, Alex Buck, some hopes that he could keep his sponsor for next year.
Hopefully, we will have some coverage of the Giro, which will start soon after the Tour de Romandie, which is right around the corner. Gesink is hoping for a podium place in Switzerland at the very least as he is the defending champion, while the time - trial team and Ardila are set for Italy.
There's a good chance that the Jack Wolfskin jerseys won't be seen in the pack next year

Jack Wolfskin destroys the competition in the Italian opener
The first Grand Tour of the year, Giro d'Italia, had started not a long time ago and the racing has been very exciting.
The first stage was a team time - trial, a stage made for the Jack Wolfskin squad. Cornu, Posthuma and Van Winden led the team perfectly over the 21 km route and put all the other teams at least 25 seconds behind our orange jerseys. Cornu was the first rider to cross the finish line, so he became the first pink jersey wearer of this year's Giro d'Italia.
In the closing kilometers of the second stage, Rosseler made a move from the pack, which put him into a spot where he was able to finish the stage in second place, a performance that moved him into the maglia rosa. But the next day, our bad luck stroke again and Rosseler fell off his bike, which meant that the third day of the Giro was our last day in pink.
The next stages didn't bring anything important from JW's point of view, but our general classification hope, Mauricio Ardila, is holding a very good 5th place overall after 5 stages.

Giro ends like it started
The 2012 edition of the Giro d'Italia ended exactly like it started for Jack Wolfskin, with a stage win, again in a time - trial.
But this time it was an individual time - trial and Cornu took the win all by himself without any help from his team - mates. Our team - leader, Mauricio Ardila managed a good 12th place overall, after spending the first week of the race in the top 10.
Eight of the riders that represented us in the Giro will travel to Spain for La Vuelta, where they will meet with their Vuelta leader, Ruben Plaza. The only JW rider to ride the Giro this year, but not the Vuelta is Ardila, who is now moving his training towards the Tour de France.
Cornu was unstoppable in the last stage

We did it again in La Vuelta!
As promised at the start of the season, the TTT will be our main goals of the season. And after a poor start in Qatar, we continued improving our team work and won in Oman and Giro.
In La Vuelta, where the hardest TTT of the last few years took place, we managed to keep the level high and put all the other teams at least 30 seconds behind us, even though we only 8 riders left in the team, Van Winden being kicked out of the race for not making the time cut in one of the mountain stages.
At the moment, there are still 11 stages to be raced in La Vuelta and our leader, Ruben Plaza, is sitting in a comfortable 8th place, but it will be a real challenge for the Spaniard to keep that place in the upcoming stages!

Disappointing Vuelta for Ruben Plaza
With this year's startlist and route it was a real challenge for Plaza to repeat last year's ride, when he came just 7 seconds short to the podium. Still prior the start of the race everybody saw the former Virgin Media rider as a top 10 candidate.
With the team focusing on the time - trials here, Plaza didn't have too much support in the mountains and after a decent ride in the first week, he slowly started losing the pace of the top riders in the race. In the end all that Plaza could do was a 12th place, which meant another goal failed by Jack Wolfskin this season, as the sponsors set a top 10 here as a goal.
This year's Vuelta was a true challenge, Santander making sure of that as they brought Madraza his first Grand Tour win. Only 103 riders finished in Madrid, and only four of them were wearing Jack Wolfskin jerseys.
Cornu, Posthuma and Donald were the three riders that managed to stay with Plaza and help him the best way they could until the end of the race. They actually did even more than that, as they were almost every day trying to get into breakaways and succeeded a few times.
In the 13th stage, Cornu came very close to add another Vuelta stage win to his name, but managed only a second place, behind B&O's Nico Keinath. It was Posthuma who brought us a second stage win the race after the TTT, after winning the 19th stage.
With another failed goal, Jack Wolfskin are looking closer and closer to leave the World of Cycling, while Plaza's place in the team (if a new sponsor will be found) for 2013 doesn't look great either.

Plaza wins on Alpe d'Huez!
After a bad Vuelta, Ruben Plaza went to redeem himself to France for the Criterium du Dauphine Libere, a race where he wore the yellow jersey for one stage last year.
And things didn't start too bad with a 14th place in the prologue. But in the third stage our bad luck stroke again as Plaza missed a split and lost almost 10 minutes.
Over the next few days, Plaza tried to slowly get back into the race, but it seemed impossible with so many good riders participating. Then the 7th stage came, the queen stage of the race, finishing on the mythical Alpe d'Huez, the Dutch mountain.
Plaza went in the early breakaway and showed an awesome form, crossing in the first position almost all of the mountain passes of the day, which put him in the driving seat for the polka dot jersey. As the final climb of the day started, it became clear that the winner of the stage will be one of the escapes. Two other great climbers were present in the breakaway group in Lovkvist and Rohregger. Both of them tried to attack at specific points of the climb, but failed to get a gap. In the end it was Plaza who made the winning move with less than 3km to go. He didn't need to attack as he rode in his characteristic way of setting up a very high tempo and dropping his opponents one by one.
At the finish, Plaza crossed the line with an advantage of almost 2 minutes over Lovkvist and 3 or 4 minutes over the best riders of the race.
With just one stage to go, from what seemed to be a lost race for the Spaniard, now it looks like a perfect one with a stage win, the polka dots and a possible top 10.
Also, don't forget that even if we don't follow all the races anymore, you can still find a list of our best results here: https://pcmdaily.c...ost_369112

Unbeatable in Copenhagen-Malmo TTT
After a solid win last year in Eindhoven and 3 wins in TTTs this year, Jack Wolfskin were definitely the main favorites at this year's main TTT event of the year, which started from Copenhagen and ended in Malmo.
Gesink, Cornu, Plaza, Posthuma, Van Winden, Vaugrenard, De Kort and Donald were the 8 riders that competed for us. And they gave the competition no chance, leading the race at all the intermediate check points and winning by 48 seconds in front of Milka, led here by Jerome Coppel.

New sponsor to be announced during the Tour de France
Even with Gesink's recent 3rd place in Luxembourg and the fact that the team is probably having its best season yet, we are still looking quite bad in the goals department. And that doesn't make the sponsors happy at all.
After 3 years of sponsorship, Jack Wolfskin had made their final decision and they will withdraw from the position as a main sponsor. It was a good run, with awesome and sometimes unexpected results, but all good things have to end at some point.
The new sponsor will be announced in the final week of the Tour and it will most likely be a Dutch company.

New colors for 2013
As previously announced, Jack Wolfskin will withdraw from their position of principal sponsor of our cycling team. As soon as their departure from the world of cycling became official, the team's board have been searching for a new sponsor non-stop.
The new sponsor is Dutch which means that the team won't change nationalities and most of our Dutch riders will be looking to renew their contracts for next year. Still, at this point, only Robert Gesink is 100% going to continue with the team.
The new sponsor will bring a great amount of money to the team and because it will be their first contact with the cycling world their name won't appear on team's name, at least for the first year.
They don't want pressure on the team in the first year and they will give us enough time to create a really competitive team that will be able to compete for the 1st place in the Pro Tour. As soon as they will feel that the team is strong enough and ready to win the biggest races in cycling they will step up and rename the team after them and collect back the money they have invested. From now on, the former Jack Wolfskin team will be known as Project 1t4i.

Yeah, despite the general opinion, I quite liked the idea with Project 1t4i in real life. The jersey will be very similar to the real life one, but for now only I and Will007 will know how it looks like.
And yes, there will be some major changes in the team. New sponsor, new focus. Read that as in good bye team time-trials.
