If, if... Cav doesn't seem to have the form, going by his Tirreno performances. And he looks to be too fat. Greipel hasn't really done anything to suggest he's on form, and he crashed pretty badly before the TTT.

Remeber that it almost isn't possible to accelarrate on poggio alone and keep going till the finish i don't think Gilbert on his own can resist the speeding trains. Maybe Phill and Spartacus would be fun to watch.

I have to disagree. The reason he got over in 2009 was because he had great form, but more importantly, the riders decided the coastal climbs should be taken at barely training pace

What injury problems? Haussler showed in PN he has no problems

Yeah but over 300km it might be a bit tougher on him. My money is still on him getting the win though.

Rabobank announced their squad: Lars Boom, Rick Flens, Oscar Freire, Michael Matthews, Sebastian Langeveld, Tom Leezer, Maarten Tjallingii and Maarten Wynants

Pretty strong squad, which should be able too make it a sprint for Freire.
The selection of Matthews kinda surprised me and i will be looking forward too see how far he gets in his first classic Smile Don't expect him in the final ofc, but it would be a nice surprise Wink

It would really suprise me if Freire manages to somehow win again.

Sky brings really good squad here, I don't know how is Hagen Achilles problem so he is the mistery one, Flecha and Arvesen are great two captains to have in team, Lofkvist to follow any dangreous attacks on Poggio potentially. I really want to see Thomas perform good though, from the job he has done for Hendo and Wiggo he really has great form and would love to see Sky working for him. Doubt it though.

Hagen says he will be fit for fight on Saturday. Sky has a great team anyway. I actually believe Thomas can do really well this year, he has showed good form so far, and he's capable to hang on a high pace from Leopard/Garmin or one of the "hillteams." He will have problems with attacks though, but then Sky has Löfkvist and Flecha.

Anyway, I think the battle for the win will be between Gilbert, Cancellara, Hushovd and Haussler, depending on how the race evolves, I don't believe in a replay of 2009. Sagan would have been an interesting name, but it looks like he is not in top shape. Gilbert though, was pretty convincing through Tirreno-Adriatico, expect the first hilly stage. Cancellara is Cancellara, and he looks like he is in form. Hushovd and Haussler are sprinters that I think can handle the pace from different teams on The Cipressa and Poggio. Hushovd being a better puncheur than Haussler and also having "good" legs after 280kms on the bike. Haussler will be the better sprinter though, if it comes down to a sprint with both of them involved.

I hope for a great race, which hopefully will explode on The Cipressa and Poggio, then it will be up to the teams with sprinters left in the front of the peloton to bring it back, and keep a high enough pace to avoid attacks from Cancellara or other fighters on the run in to the finish line.

Petacchi's Milano-San Remo threatened by asthma outbreak - not a massive favourite but always with a good shout in the sprint, would be shame if he missed it.

Also a nice insight from Lofkvist point of view. Sky plans for Hagen and Thomas and him - https://www.teamsk...17,00.html

I have a feeling that if it comes down to a sprint, Farrar will be a tough man to beat. I really hope it's gonna be alot more action than 2009 though, and with a pace like last year it could be interesting to see which sprinters are strong enough to hang on.

Gilbert is an interesting pick but I struggle to picture him actually getting enough time to win the whole thing, but then again that's what makes cycling so interesting, there are so many different scenarios. I simply can't wait.

Haussler:
I think about that day all the time if I'm honest. When the weather's bad and my motivation low I think back to that day and I immediately get out on my bike and push myself. It's almost robotic now. I'm going to Milan-Sam Remo this weekend, not to finish second or third but to win.

Somehow I doubt he will consent to being lead out man.
