Santos Tour Down Under Stage 3
Unley-Stirling
Unley to Stirling is the route for Stage 3 of the Santos Tour Down Under. Again, it is classified as a flat stage by the Race Organisers, but it will be a difficult finish for the riders, as they enter the finishing circuit around Stirling.
The finish will favour sprinter-pucheurs, and that fits Duque profile perfectly and we hope for at least podium today.
Favourite: Heinrich Haussler, Leonardo Duque, Romain Feillu, Michael Matthews
The start of potentially very important stage in Unley.
At the first kilometres there were many attacks, the break formed around El Fares who is going for mountain points once again, it looks very unorganised, will we be caught?
No is the simple answer, somehow the peloton slowed down the pace and let us get away, we take intermediate sprint in our theory that every second counts towards the overall.
The break got larger by every kilometre and the whole break formed at the 80km mark. It included Lars Boom (Rabobank) which surely will give us a fight for the mountain sprint, Hayman (Sky), Wurf (Liquigas), Porsev (Katusha), Mouris (Vacansoleil), once again Van Impe (Quickstep), three times lucky? Erviti (Movistar), Tosatto (Saxobank), Walker (Geox) and Poulhiés (Saur).
Lars Boom wins the mountain sprint, our mistake here, we worked earlier to much to get away from peloton so El Fares didn’t have much energy to attack, though I still happy with 2nd, and winning both intermediate sprints.
Garmin (Haussler) and Sky (Sutton) were pulling the peloton at a very fast pace, 40km to go gap is around 2 minutes, we really doubted our chances in break with El Fares, and so he is back in peloton, conserving energy for tomorrow.
25km to go and peloton now can see the break, they are gonna be caught for sure now. Will any GC contenders attack today on the last 2km which suits strong puncheur?
10km to go HTC working now at the front with pace to let nobody get away, will it work for them today? Their main goal is to get Cavendish into Ochre jersey, but will he have enough energy to sprint for podium today?
3.5km to go and Cavendish looking in a great position, Goddaert behind him, and Duque behind Goddaert. Haussler at the front looking very well today as well.
What an acceleration form Haussler, nobody will catch him now, we took the wrong wheel completely, as Cavendish didn’t even begin to sprint, Duque fast changed to Elmiger wheel but it was too late for a stage win.
Really comfortable win for Haussler today, Duque hold it off to get another podium place and with this the overall classification and the Ochre jersey from Sutton. Good day for us. Cavendish started to sprint but it was already too late fro a good place today. Another nice surprise is that Julien El Fares leads Points jersey.
If everything goes as planned, Tour Down Under should be finished by tomorrow. And then we will swiflty proceed to February.

anyway, what a great preformance untill now leading with Duque, who would have guessed that looks like it will be a great story
Yea I now, shame on me I've changed it now to Chrome, much much better, but gonna try firefox to see any difrrences expect the amount of add-ons.
Thanks too Duque is perfoming vry well, TDU really suits his abilities well, if he wins it Cofoidis gonna have a party for sure But we need to keep calm and focused, still 3 stages to go. I too hope the story will last long though with PCM 11 coming Sky will be tempting But we will see how Cofidis will go Thanks for the last time

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 4
Norwood-Strathalbyn
Stage 4 takes the riders from Norwood to Strathalbyn on the 124km course. After the finish of Stage 3 in Stirling yesterday, this will be much in favour of pure sprinters.
After winning the first stage with class Mark Cavendish was a bit quiet on the last stages, the stage favours his abilities so he will be the big favourite and probably the big looser if he doesn't win today.
Favourites: Mark Cavendish, Heinrich Haussler, Christopher Sutton
Depart in Norwood.
Before going to Australia we expected good results but not as good as to lead the race. To have leader’s jersey in our team is just great for the morale of the team and happiness of sponsor at this early stage of the season.
The usual breakaway including usual El Fares, it looks like they will be caught, but the peloton at the last moment slows down the pace and lets us break, good for us as El Fares wouldn’t have more energy for another attack.
Very common here in Australia that someone from Cofidis wins intermediate or mountain sprint. El Fares with this effort is the new leader in this classification.
El Fares wins yet another intermediate sprint, but what is important that break at last established, with 7 riders including Van Emden (Rabaobank), De Haes (Omega), Viganó most notable of them.
Garmin-Cervélo working as the only team in the peloton, with 40km to go the break has 5 minutes advantage. El Fares dropped from break to converse energy for Willunga tomorrow. Was it a bad choice?
20km to go and the advantage is 2 minutes. It is gonna be a close call, HTC and Garmin joined forces now for to make sure there is a sprint.
How close can it be? With 2km to go one lucky the rider from the break should be assured of victory today, but peloton with furious pace now might close the gap very fast.
De Haes takes it, he was the strongest from the pack, Laurent Mangel holds The Manx Missile for second. That means that Cavendish was in fact fastest sprinter today finishing 3rd. Duque was in bad position before the sprint and was blocked so we couldn’t sprint for a Top10 today, so quite happy that at the end break made it. We will see tomorrow how strong is the man from the island on the Willunga.
The big decision for us today was that we dropped El Fares from the winning break. He had +5 today so first I thoguht it was very bad move from us, but you will see it paid off later
Santos Tour Down Under Stage 5
McLaren Vale-Willunga
The Queen Stage of the Santos Tour Down Under, Willunga Hill awaits the riders today, the biggest hill in TDU this year should provide a lot of excitment.
The teams of sprinters will have to make sure no threre will be no breakaway before the Willguna and make high pace on the hill and not let strong puncheurs to haev a chance of attack.
Favourites: Heinrich Haussler, Leonardo Duque, Fabian Cancellara
Peloton before the start, the big teams looking nervy today.
Very early on there is an attack containing 17 riders, none of them are really big names but if they work together they have a big chance of surviving today.
It didn’t last long, amazing work from HTC by Renshaw, Brammeier and Howard brought the break even before the first intermediate sprint, we won’t sprint to preserve energy.
Mark Cavendish was superior and takes full points in addition to three bonus seconds.
Up until Willunga Hill, the stage was very uneventful. Lead by HTC nobody tried to get away at all and everybody waited for Willunga.
Duque protected by Demaret is getting away from the peloton, I don’t think we can get away so we pace it at 60 on dot, nothing too vigorous, but still much faster than pace of the peloton.
The gap increases to its maximum over minte now, we decide not too cotnieu with that and get off the dot with Duque.
Duque was brought back to the peloton on the ascent but once again takes control. He doesn’t have his bast day today (-1) so I am very surprised he is doing so well. Now we hope we can find lucky wheel and fight it out for the first win.
Strong winds at the top of the hill split the peloton and high pace meant some favourites started to struggle, peloton reduced now to 87 men.
HTC controlled this race from the start to finish, though Cavendish is still in peloton he is at the end of it, and shouldn’t be able to come back to sprint today.
2.5km to go and we decide to take Jens Voigt’s wheel at the last minute was it the right decision?
It wasn’t as good as I hoped, Heinrich Haussler takes his second win in a row and with this takes the Ochre jersey as well. Another good podium for us, we really hope we can win tomorrow, so far we had everything and only a win is missing. 6 seconds might look too much for Duque to take but with finish tomorrow giving 10 bonus seconds everything is still to play for.
Thanks, I am really 'proud' of them, if that is the right word to use in a game Tomorrow gonna be intresting, we are not going for any sprints or anything, everthing lies in our hands thogugh, and I hope we will get good daily form, Duque best so far was only +1, so maybe +5 wouldn't be too bad once Funny thing is that El Fares is 100% sure of his points jersey, would have never expected that.

The Santos Tour Down Under ends with a 22 lap criterium around the City Centre of Adelaide. The profile might look hard but it isn't and we expect mass sprint today.
We enter the finale of the Tour Down Under with all the jerseys up for grabs potentially, if Duque wins today and Haussler finishes outside the Top3, we have won the TDU, there are many possibilites. Points jersey theorically is up for grabs us well but we doubt Cavendish will be strong enough today after tiring stage yesterday and uphill sprint today. We will try also prevent Lars Boom from attacking today to make sure we keep mountain jersey safe on El Fares shoudlers.
Favourites: Heinrich Haussler, Leonardo Duque, Mark Cavendish
And we are off in the last stage of a brilliant Tour Down Under for Cofidis so far.
Lots of riders attacked, few succeed that already lost few minutes yesterday. The peloton allows them to go away but the gap never really increases to more than two minutes.
The riders today must show their cycling skills with few dangerous and tricky turns
Radioshack leading the peloton for Robbie McEwen, who kept quite all race, he must feel pretty good today, as it the first time that Radioshack lead the peloton here.
Strong floods can be seen all around Adelaide, it causes problems for less skilled riders but it advantages others.
10km to go and there is a spilt in the peloton, only 76 riders made it, with all of Cofidis riders in the group.
3.5km to go and the riders start to position themselves, Leonardo Duque feels great today +5 but then the sprint bug hits, he goes back and will be in the middle of the peloton when the sprint will begin.
This is gonna be a close call between Duque and Lorenzetto. Duque last 200 metres were just brilliant he outsprinted about 30 riders and got himself in a fighting chance.Who will win?
Please zoom the pic to see the details my favourite picture I made up to date We have won it and with this we take Ochre jersey, it is official Duque wins TDU 2011 and with this leads Pro Tour rankings.

What a victory for out team, it boost our chances to get into other PT races, one in particular, we will try to get wildcard for MSR and we think Duque has a good chance of very good place overall. His from should be great after P-N build up and we hope for best.
Not getting ourselved ahead of us, now we gonna have a beach-party and then off to Paris and our fans. Sposnor should be happy too. A pay rise should be coming in less than a month, brilliant
El Fares 4th and Aleks's 10th is a surprise as well, Really happy for both of them. Especially with Aleks, 10th is really good. hope he can improve from that. More about El Fares shortly.

Another surprise result, El Fares wasn't in Top 10 in any of the stages, but still he managed to win this jersey by going for mountain points REally great achievement, he is still quite young and has big talent and can with some hard work become great hilly classics rider.

El Fares dominating again, Boom gave him a fight at the beginning but he didn't really have a chance to beat him to the jerey. We dominated this category, so another surprise result for us, a good surprise.

We didn;t have anyone to compete in this category, Kristof Goddaert is a vey deserving winner, he didn't look good on Willunga but he still managed to make it to the pack, strong ride by him throughout the race.

Liquigas takes the award, not sure why though, they didn't do too much, but oh well. We are happy that we have the same time as winners, so we didn't dissapoint either.
That's all folks, hope you enjoyed it, and I'll see you later at the summary, we having almost a month is France, hope the weather gonna be as good as here in Down Under. See you !
