The sprint started out great but instead of a podium, three men in the top 7.

Wild cards really do rule in the sprints... well apart from Youtube but we will se more of them later!
Horrible early crash for Tenerio though, Lafarge really could have done without that!
The ProTour sprinting quality is incredibly weak compared to CT, beyond Bennati and Boonen. Both of whom seem only to be doing the Tour, so a missed opportunity for those 2 to really dominate a race, and the CT teams are prospering. Its an even worse move for the likes of Vanderbiest and Roelandts - maybe Bewley aswell if he is doing the Tour, whose only GT will be battling against better sprinters when if they had gone for either of the other 2, theyd have been the top sprinter.
Sam Bewley isn't racing any GTs this year... I though he would be better of by winning some small races, and stages in those, but he haven't been able to do so, so I should've probably had him here in the Vuelta...

Interesting start so far. Some very strong riders have already lost out on their chance for a top result.
The sprints seems to be just as poor in the Vuelta, as the Giro for me.
I quite like the teams getting high stageresults, as non of them are a big threat to my teams position as it looks now, I don't like that Sony Ericsson seems to keep on getting good results though. They are expanding their lead on me, while I needed this race to give me 500+ points on them to stand a real chance at winning. Seems to be impossible now. I needed Lavoine or Sonnery to perform in order to get the wanted result...
Vesuvio will probably be the biggest scorer of this Vuelta, hence Intxausti will spend a lot of time in the leaders jersey, not to mention the young rider competition.

nice to see Farrar mixing it up, in this race he even has a shot at a win or a few top 3's

Hopefully
But its far too soon to tell. I dont really expect Intxausti to be in the race lead when we get to the first mountain stage - and ultimately the top pointscorer is going to be the rider who goes strongest in the mountains, and ultimately, takes top points for winning the race. The fact that Intxausti already has scored 100+ points more than rivals Schleck and Contador helps me for sure, but not if they both end up beating Intxausti in the final GC.

True but let's say that Intxausti is a good bet for 3rd or 4th, and is in the leaders jersey in the first 10 days, then he scores 180points+90 for young rider... Even before the mountain starts. That could ad up for him being the most consistent rider getting the overall best, but I know what you're meaning. If Contador or Schleck wins the first mountain stage, they also have the jersey for 10 day

Looking at the course for this, surprised there are not more sprinters here. Having said that, Cav raced all of them for Eurosport last year and only managed to finish the Tour if memory serves. |

Yeah looking back it was a poor decision not to let Bewley race here, but I thought my current setup with:
Anthony Lavoine (80 Sprint, 73 Flat and 77 Recuperation)
Blaise Sonnery (78 Sprint, 71 Mountain, 70 Hilly)
Michael Vingerling (77 Sprint)
Would be easily good enough to make some jumps for stagewins. Also I had an expectation that either Boonen, Bennati and such riders was here looking at the amount of flat stages.
Seems yet again that Sony Ericsson has been making the best decision of the top teams... They are simply doing a magnificent job in reducing the loss through these "low-scoring" races for them...
Obviously I would've made a huuuge grasp back if I had decided to take Bewley here...

You made a typo, Sonnery got 70 in hills. Would be an awesome rider otherwise.

What you forget to mention is Lavoine (58 Hill, 64 Resistance), Vingerling (60 Hill, 65 Resistance)

Yup, but like I said:
I THOUGHT that would be good enough. Obviously I have realized now that I was horribly wrong
I didn't bring Bewley because of the very flat stages...

Absolutely fair, it's just me who are very eager to get this race ahead, since it is my main goal all season. I really need to see if Contador can take some valuable time on Schleck on the TT, and hopefully see Brajkovic being more than 1min ahead of him going into the first mountain stage. That could cause some problems...

That is just f..king lame! Contador that sucks!
The only good thing to come from this is that Schleck was also in the split, and that Brajkovic wasn't. That could be a internal problem, with Brajkovic being more than 2 minutes ahead of Schleck in the first mountain stage...
Will you post another stage now? (Just so I know whether or not to go to bed)...
