Tour Mediterraneen
One of our bigger french races of the season. Our goal is to win a stage as we think the field will be weaker than it was in Australia a few weeks ago. Thing is we are sending a weaker squad too. We still have Rojas because he wants to be in fairly good shape for Milan-SanRemo and we have Arroyo and Plaza who want to be in good shape for Paris-Nice/ Tirreno Adriatico.

Tour Mediteraneen Stage 1
Today has mass sprint written all over it, with the nice flat profile, along the coast. Unfortunately there was rain in the forecast today. The riders set off at a fairly regular pace but quickly toned that up after a few riders tried to get away. The hills at the beginning were not very helpful to Jeannesson who went to fetch waterbottles as a tactic in trying to save energy. Much later in the day a small amount of very unsignificant riders in the break were on their final stand, as Cofidis and Bbox were really chasing them down. In the sprint for the line we only had Kiryienka who had anything left to help out Rojas, but that was short-lived and Kiryienka dropped back forcing Rojas to ride without any team mates.
Still, Rojas manages a 5th (on extreme) after coming from WAY behind and nearly passing the 4 riders ahead of him, and all that without any team support basically.

Thanks. I also find it more fun. There's less x8 and more x1 adjusting things and picking the perfect spot to fetch bottles etc.
Still not sure how the mountain stages will work on extreme because I suck at them with patch 1.0.4.1. on Hard.
Where's the rest of the love for playing on extreme and getting this result?
Spoiler The last bit is mostly a joke.

Tour Mediteraneen Stage 2
The stage looks perfect for a break to stay away. We think the peloton will also still be tired from yesterdays heavy rain and maybe a few will have a cold thus not being able to work as hard. All these factors will help a break stay clear and we hope that will be the case.
In all truthfulness we also wanted to get the KOM jersey as our serious climbers here are more just building for later races in the month. As we set off we immediately attacked with a homegrown hero/enemy depending on who you are; Christophe Moreau. Even though he is quite old now he is still seen as somewhat of a threat so he and his 3 accomplices were brought back within 20 minutes. Soon after that though we sent another rider out on the attack.
This time it was Jaun Jose Cobo. Some say he's really talented and others say he is just an above average climber, but none-the-less he was allowed to get clear. At the first KOM sprint he grabbed maximum points and looked well on his way to grabbing the KOM jersey for tommorow with one KOM sprint still left, but on the 2nd and final KOM sprint Matt Willson (Garmin) decided to go for maximum points. Cobo only finished 3rd on that sprint and gave Wilson the jersey by 2 points.
The breaks hope of survival was reduced significantly after Cobo dropped down as his main goal of the day was done. They eventually got caught with 29km left.
In the sprint we had actually prepared a sprint train, but Plaza didn't execute correctly and Rojas fell behind like yesterday.
For starting the sprint 20 riders down on all these riders (currently at the front) Rojas still managed a great position and really caught up in the final metres. Its less his fault as it is the teams for not getting him in a good spot for the sprint. Something to work on for stage 3 I guess.

Tour Mediteraneen Stage 3
The stage calls for a sprint finish. Our main goal for the day is setting up Rojas for the win, but our secondary goal is to try and have Cobo in the BOTD to claim some more KOM points, and hopefully take a stranglehold on that classification.
After several failed attempts by Cobo a BOTD finally got going. Cobo missed out, as he was tired from earlier efforts of trying a break.
The break managed a good 7 minutes to the bunch and with only 30km left that was reduced to 2' minutes. Grivko, Willmann, Veikkanen and Stangelj tried to get away, but only Grivko and Veikkanen could bridge the gap.
Now with 4km left the break assumes the position and gets ready to be caught, but some wont give up just yet...
Caisse finally has a good train set up. Can we catch the break in time.
Our view with 500m left.
100m left.
And Grivko the Astana rider just barely gets the win. Rojas 3rd. We really thought we had this, but in the end we forgot that there was still a BOTD and I was nearly about to jump for joy, because I thought I had my first win on extreme.

Thanks. Already played the 4th stage and we were in contention again. Maybe we won, maybe we didn't. You'll have to find out later. |

Tour Mediteraneen Stage 4
The stage looks fairly unknown to us. Maybe we could see a sprint, or maybe we could see the contenders attack at the end and try to get time on each other, that is really the question. Luckily we have riders prepared for both situations, so we are not worried.
The stage began with a KOM sprint really close to the beginning so we tried to have Cobo in the break or atleast the lead group for the climb but he was pulled back after a huge attack. He looked tired the rest of the stage because of it and never got away.
Two riders did however, Veikkanen and Taaramae.
The two bff's rode into the finishing town first, and they really thought they had the win, with only 4km left.
But with shades of Champs Elysees, Vinokourov made one attack and was up with the leading two (well now 3). But behind Kiryienka and Rojas were chasing hard, as the roads incline went up.
Vino held off for the win.
But Rojas still finishes strong, even with the incline which most sprinters would not be able to do as well at.

Tour Mediteraneen Stage 5 [Final]
So the stage looks fairly hilly, and there are 3 KOM sprints scatters throughout the stage. This is the day of all days to get the KOM jersey victory, with a maximum of 40 available.
Here is the BOTD. Luckily for us, Moreau managed to get in it, after Cobo failed to do so. Le Mevel, and Moinard are also in.
Significance of this is that Moreau takes the lead in the KOM competition with 36 points. Only 2 more chances to get KOM points on the stage.
During the 2nd last climb the breakaway was caught and a few riders attacked but didn't stay aay long. Now onto the final climb to the finishing town, Kiryienka and Vino both attack.
But that gets caught as well and so with 5km left Arroyo tries his hand at the solo win.
But Astana brings that move back as well. Never really made sense as to why the chased down Vino though.
Final kilometre and Arroyo is well positioned. Fedrigo and Vinokourov are going very fast though.
And Fedrigo takes the stage, with Vino 2nd thus wiping out any chance of someone taking the virtual KOM jersey off Moreau, although with Vino 2nd Rojas loses his Points jersey by 2 points.

Thanks guys. Glad you are enjoying it. Yeah I again thought I had a win with Arroyo but then Astana brought him back. |
