@ FreitasPCM - Thanks, that's great to hear.
@ janne_837 - Oops, I'd actually planned to bold the names of the favourites in the start list and Steegmans was one I was planning on doing. In the end I didn't do that and I obviously forgot to mention Steegmans in the write-up.
Both Lorezetto and Bole are primed for this race and have top fitness so i'm confident of a good result.

Milan - San Remo
Here we are at the first 'Monument' of the season, 'La classica di Primavera'. All the sprinters teams are ready to launch their men to victory in the final srpint, but will an attack stay away and take away the chance for the sprinters?
Tom Boonen obviously wasn't contending for victory today, he worked hard early on the reel in some breakaway attempts.
The break that finally got away included Gilberto Simoni from Lampre. However that break was always doomed.
With 41km to the line Cunego attacks! The Italian really just wanted to test his legs, knowing his poor finess would prevent him from contending for victory.
Fabian Cancellara, Sylvain Chavenal and Kurt Asle Arvesen counter the move.
The four catch up to Simoni is is about to be caught by the peleton, behind Johan Van Summeren is about to join this group of attackers. With the brilliant strength of Fabian Cancellara maybe this group has a chance.
On the Cipressa the small group split, only Chavanel could keep up with the fast pace set by Cancellara and the rest were dropped.
The peleton behind were struggling to set a high tempo, their speed fropped fight down and it appeared increasing likely that the peleton wouldn't see the two men out in front again. The gap quickly jumped out to nearly 4 minutes.
As they rode up the Poggio somthing amazing happened, Chavanel started to ride away from Cancellara, he didn't attack but just simply dropped him! Chavanel could smell victory...
With the peleton not gaining on the leaders Lorezetto decided he had to do something and attacked at the base of the Poggio, Devolder followed.
They formed a small chasig group in front of the peleton, but still well behind the two men out in front. Lorezetto would be racing for third.
Inside the final km for Chavanel...
With a big lead over Cancellara he could start his victory celebrations early.
Victory! Sylain Chavanel wins the 2010 Milan - San Remo! Cancellara takes second.
Lorenzetto leading the chasing group into the sprint, we really want this podium place.
And he takes it! A brilliant thrid for Mirco Lorenzetto and Lampre.
To cap off a wonderful race for s Grega Bole finished in 8th place.

No way Chavanel would win Milano-San Remo
Congrats for the third place, a great move by Lorenzetto! |

Lol, yeah it's a bit unrealistic, but kind of nice to see Cancellara defeated for once. |

Well, if this was 20 years ago it wouldn't have been so strange to see someone like Chavanel winning MSR... ANyway, congrats for the podium, Lorenzetto was really strong. |

Thanks guys.
I'm really happy with third, sponsors wanted a win but without Petacchi it would have been pretty hard. I'm preparing Petacchi for the Giro and Tour instead of peaking him early for the spring classics.

2010 Volta a Catalunya
Route
Stage 4 of this race provides us with our first real high mountain stage of this year's Pro Tour. Along with stage 3 this stage will be decisive in deciding the winner of the overall GC. There could also be opportunities for a break to succeed on terrain which may be slightly too steep for pure sprinters, but not steep enough for any of the favourites to launch a big attack.

Saxo Bank have brought an incredibly strong team to this race as they seem to do for all races. Hot off the back of victory in Tirreno - Adriatico and a second place in Milan - San Remo, Fabian Cancellara will compete here as maybe a final lead-up race before taking on the cobbled classics. The Schleck brothers are also in attendance and with the help of teammates Voigt and Fuglsang look a formidable challenge in the mountains.
Samuel Snachez will be looking to ride well on home soil before his home race, the Vuelta al Pais Vasco. Othaer Spaniards to watch out for on home soil are Joaquin Rodriguez and Oscar Freire.
RadioShack have brought a strong team to look after Levi Leipheimer, with Popovych, Zubeldia, Machado and Paulinho. The opening time trial should suit the American.
Another rider suited to the TT is Bradley Wiggins, despite probably not being able to compete with the very best on the steep slopes of stage 4, he could take enough time off his rivals to finish this race high up in the overall standings
Other GC contenders to atch out for are Van den Broek, Gesink, Rogers, Kirchen, Basso, Vande Velde and Hesjedal. While Greipel, McEwen, Napolitano and Bennati should hotly contest the sprints along with of course Oscar Freire.
We've brought an average team to this race, led by Spilak who will be hoping for a top 10 overall. With o sprinter really capable of winning the sprints we might try our luck in a few breakaways. |

Volta a Catalunya
Stage 1
Fabian Cancellara is the obvious favourite here, but strange things are known to happen in short prologue's.
Cancellara was an early starter and set a fast time of 6'09", putting him in the lead.
Simon Spilak comes into this race with high hopes, a good ride here would go a long way to acheiving those hopes. He rode well, 7th place +21".
Levi Leipheimer is another GC hopeful looking for a good ride today, he wasn't able to do that though. a dissapointing 36th place +35" for the American.
Bradley Wiggins was even more dissapointing than Leipheimer, he could only manage 81st position + 49".
But nobody was faster than Cancellara today, the Swiss World ITT Champion took a comfortable victory ahead of Michael Rogers.

Volta a Catalunya
Stage 2
This will be a very interesting stage, the experts are predicting a mass sprint, but I bet some of the sprinters wouldn't agree with that. Only the strongest sprinters will be able to survive the climbs and win a sprint.
Ponzi was sent out in the break to claim some KoM points. He did just that and will wear the jersey toomorrow.
The two climbs before the finish were tough, and the peleton shed many riders.
As we approached the finish line the peleton was showing obviously suffering, the pace had dropped significantly. Simon Spilak, who had no problem surving the slopes, saw his chance to attack. The Slovenian was hoping to suprise everyone.
He built up a nice lead and as we entered the final km, victory looked possible.
But the peleton was closing in on our man at a rapid pace. Spilak was completely spent by now, he needed to find every last ounce of energy now to hold on for the next 100m.
But he couldn't hold off the storming peleton, he was caught no more than 3m from the line by Matteo Carrara who took the victory. However Spliak was still rewarded for his efforts with a nice 2nd placing which moved him above Ivan Basso into 6th place overall.

You did a good job being second with Spilak, as Kirchen or Freire and Bennati are slighlty better sprinters than the Slovenian. |

@ all - Thanks. I'm pretty happy with 2nd place considering it was classified as a flat stage but it is always dissapointing to come so close. |

Volta a Catalunya
Stage 3
*I had some issues with the replay of this stage and as a result I don't have any screenshots for the final km's.
Slightly similar to yesterday's stage, although the climbs are much steeper and longer here and the peleton looks certain to be split up. Perhaps a small group will make it to the finish together and sprint between themselves for the win?
Saxo Bank took control of the race, doing much of the work on the front of the peleton to reel in the break. However they suprised everyone by sending Andy Schleck to the front to help out, perhaps the younger Schleck brother would be working for his older brother at this race? A puzzling move given Andy had set himself up nicely for a crack at the overall with an impressive 16th place in the opening prologue.
Saxo were hurting many of the riders in the peleton, ahead of the final climb the bunch had been reduced significantly.
On the final climb Jurgen Van den Broeck jumped out of the peleton.
A short time later Frank Schleck made the attack that everyone had been expecting, given the amount of work done by his team on the front. Simon Spilak still remains in the peleton.
*I was unable to take any more screenshots, I guess i'll just write a brief report of what eventuated.
Schleck's attack was unsuccessful, he didn't make it to a group of four that eventually formed at the front. In this group were Van den Broeck, J. Rodriguez, P. Tiralongo and Sergio Paulinho.
Van den Broeck took victory ahead of his companions, a victory which puts him into the overall lead of the race.
Spilak came home in 13th place, in a 60 man peleton, only just remaining in the top 10.

A bit strange result... Had not expected that Tiralongo or Paulinho finish before the Schlecks... Spilak still 10th in overall |

^ Yeah it is strange. Unfortunately Spilak just wasn't quite strong enough to make jump across to the group. It's in these situations that i'm really noticing the weakness of our team. All the other climbers have strong support teams around them, Spilak just has Marzano (who is only an average climber) and that's about it. It makes hard to compete against teams like RadioShack, Saxo Bank, Astana and Liquigas. Bring on transfer season! Hopefully we can hang on to the top 10.
