PPDB was hacked and down/ BACK ON-LINE now
tozequio
It's truly unbelievable how someone is capable of doing this Sad

I know it's hard but try to keep your head up Maestro. The community will certainly be avaliable if there's something we can do to help.

Anyone else getting a crash when clicking on "albert achterhes profronde van drenthe" or trying to get from 04/10 to 04/11?

Well . . . . after 3 days of trying the PPDB site, I thought something maybe up, so did a little scout around to see and stumbled across this thread. I almost wished I hadn't. Such a shame. I loved that forum, so weird how I pm'd my gratitude to you Maestro a day or two before the site crashed. The updates you produce Plakker were spectacular, but most of all, it was . . . no, IS a community I enjoy being a part of. Much to my girlfriends annoyance, many an hour late at night was spent reading some thread about a few computer animated Columbians (Talleyrand) or Miya's cows

Also just remember that although this is really shite news and must be heartbreaking for you, like you say, in the grand scheme of things this is nothing. You've been through things 10000 times more important and worrying than this.

Maestro, I have faith that this will work out. Not sure why, I just do. In the mean time just enjoy the game.

Mat4404, FYI:
For the time being the Colombians are continuing their adventures in the PCM2009 section of the PCMDaily forum.
Hopefully they can return to PPDB in the not so far future.

Thanks again for the support and the warm words. We hope to have an answer on the question if anything can be restored at the very end of this week, there is nothing I or we can do untill that became clear.
The hacker left no message, nothing at all. We still have a very little hope that it's all about a crash of the forum-database itsself, though the provider-technicians claim that the site was surely hacked and that damage was done on purpose.

Anyway, would be sure nice to have it going again, since playing the game has been long enough for me already. When you bring a certain Andrew Tennant (climb stat 66) in 5th in a serious mountainstage with uphill finish, battling with Joaquin Rodriguez as from the foot of the last mountain so no early escaper, then it's time to seek new challenges. And yes Talley, this was on Extreme, in a Motorpoint-career that I enjoyed the past days Smile

So damned, I want my forum back !

btw: special thanks to CrueTrue, the founder of this forum, who offered his help in a most fantastic way. Much appreciated!

We're ready to do whatever needs to be done maestro, you just say the word.

The PPDB Xperteleven is still running and we have a small mailing list. The PPDB citizens survived - we just need to rebuild our house

Just a little conspiracy theory: What would you tell your customers after you destroyed their forum:
1. We destroyed all your data but please do not change the provider
2. Your site got hacked because you did not use a save password, so it is all your fault.
That said, I would ask them for a prove that is it your fault and not theirs. I mean, why can anybody hack into their servers anyway?

you do know you can manually change the difficulty level to even more extreme than extreme right? Wink
sta_race_difficulty and increase the factor to 1.07 or even 1.10 (madness)
That last one gives the AI a 10% advantage in stats

7% is quite enough for the time being, Ruben Pfft

in my game normal is 3%, hard is 5% and extreme 7% but i edited it.

Well, 66 is not that bad a climbing stat in the PPDB matrix. And when he's in top form and all that... OK, I'll shut up.Wink

I second what Toto and Jaroslav said: Say the word, and we'll try to make it possible.
In the first moment I thought all of this was gone, but PPDB is much more than the bits and bytes.

I reactivated my account on PCMDaily only to say how sad this is for me. PPDB databases got me addicted to cycling in the first place, some four years ago. Even though I haven't played the game for a while, I still checked the forum regularly for news, transfers, results and reports from the pro-races and from the members who tried their hand at cycling in real life. The sense of community was awesome, it was always real fun to watch a race and think about what would Nero or Ruben comment on that. It's really really sad to end like that, and I really hope the webgremlin can bring the forum back to life. Smile

Just stumbled across this thread, was wondering why PPDB was down for a significant period. Echo the sentiments of all previous posts, extremely sad news that someone could have the cheek to take it way from you Maestro.

Really do hope that you can get it back without problems as I like many others have really enjoyed the depth and detail of you work over the years. If when the WebGremlin returns and the outlook is bleek i'm sure the community can rally and be re-born. One way or the other this is NOT the end.

No, this is so tragic! Sad I wish you get the forum up running again even though the odds are not very good. It would be such a shame to let one of the best (for me the best) pcm boards vanish .... Sad

What a bummer :-(

...although not (very) active anymore, I've grown accustomed to tjecking PPDB almost on a daily basis. PPDB is like family. When suddenly not there, you realize their value.

I'm sure though, Plakker will somehow find a way to keep the PPDB spirit alive.

See you back soon! Cool

I don't normally make emails public, but considering the last time I wrote an email to Plakker was February 2008, he might be using a different address now, so here is what I wrote in case he can't read it...

Hi Plakker,

Nobby McDonald here from the PPDB forum. I've only just found out about the hacking into the forum having browsed the PCM Daily site. I've been away in Newquay for a few days on a stag party and came back online last night, when I first noticed the forum wasn't there. I just thought it was probably something temporary when I got a plain white screen appear last night.

It's saddening and annoying that somebody somewhere has the mindset to deprieve many people of social and gaming enjoyment. Some people are sick and twisted, while others are just strange and selfish. These hackers are definately the latter and if only we'd know who has done it...

In case the forum isn't able to come back... I'd like to thank you for all the fabulous work you have done releasing countless databases over numerous versions of the game. You have made a good game great and I have thoroughly enjoyed using them in my various careers I wrote on the careers section of the forum... and I guess now it truly is RIP Piggies (at least publicly).

I'll miss the place.

No lights yet in this dark tunnel of misery.
The Repairman extended his holiday around Wales with a few days, so no action could be taken except for my own misarable attemps to repair the database. These failed.
As I will be gone to Spain myself as off coming monday for 1,5 week, I'm afraid the site will not be online any time soon uncless a small miracle will happen next mondaymorning.
Sorry guys.

Rauling
Don't say sorry. It is not your fault Smile
Everybody understands you and your situation. We all just want the best for you. Smile
