Really dumb team selection for Bettini.
Bettini and dumb go hand in hand

and everyone is suprissed if Ballan takes the world champs... did anyone thought it 2 years ago??
He only won precisely because no one expected it. He won't win again.
Heck, he only won because Spain were idiots. Ballerini's entire tactic was to have an old, washed up Bettini focus the attention of the spanish.
And it worked! Gárate spent the race telling Valverde "I know Bettini, I'm his teammate, he's tricking you". Valverde's weakness has always been his complete inability to read a race. He ignored Gárate, stuck with Bettini and threw away the race.
RodrÃguez was smart and went with the break, but he's no sprinter.

You're right, noone thought it would be Ballan. they all thought it would be Cunego or Bettini, who were the main Italian favourites, so the other teams were less likely to counter when Ballan attacked. Now Ballan is the Italian captain, and i don't see any other rider in that squad who can do the same what Ballan did in 2008

I hope not. Nibali and Bennati should be in great condition after the Vuelta... I hope to see them in the squad. Although Bennati's an ass.

It does seem unlikely.

No. These riders were selected to participate in the Giro del Veneto with Italian jersey. But it was only a test. |

That makes a lot more sense.
For one, I can guarantee Pozzato will be there even with two broken legs. Bettini loves him.

Kristoff, Hushovd and Hagen will ride the RR for Norway. The norwegian "sports director," Kjaergaard (rode on US Postal in Armstrong dopedays), seems more and more like an ass to me. Picking Kristoff, instead of Arvesen or Nordhaug.
Actually I think that Nordhaug would have been the norwegian with the best chance, together with Hushovd, of getting a decent result in this WC. But he picks Kristoff, who can't ride uphill, and he will be long gone with 30kms left.
The argument is to give him experience for WC in Copenhagen and Olympics in 2012. But come on, Norway only got 3 riders, you can't pick riders based on hopes for the next WC and Olympics when you only have 3 spots

And now for the incredibly annoying news:
For the first time ever, Eurosport won't show the Worlds live. Their transmission opens at 7am, so they'll show it then. Bah.

Goss won't make it to the finish with the front group, in the very unlikely event that it's a small bunch sprint. My money is on either Cancellara or Gilbert. |

Boasson Hagen isn't strong enough yet to sit with the "best group". My bet is on Hushovd. They spooke with Gino Van Odeenhoven(?) on Eurosport Norway today. And he said that the route reminded him of Madrid and when Boonen won.

Umm I think EBH can stay with the big group fine, Cav, Farrar, Greipel can stay with the big group (likely) why not EBH?
Also I think Tuft, Hesjedal and Rollin (or whoever the canadians send) will break away with 15km left and form a 3-man TTT to the finish line where no one will catch them and Rollin will win. (How's that for nationalism hilllis91? )
