I also noticed this weird sprinting from the big guys. I don't know how can we change this but I want a solution for the problem and I'm checking the DB for it. |

I tried to radically lower the FL and SP skill of the big guns but nothing happened. I think the biggest problem is that the sprinters are too far back at 3km and they are not much faster than the much weaker sprinters, especially in the first 1km of the sprint. I think it is a huge problem, in fact it's rather a BUG.
Tomorrow I will try the 1.0.0.0 game with my tests. |

Another thing is, that Contador should not even be sprinting on flat stages! I have no idea how cyanide managed to fuck it up this much and not even noticing it doing testing, what a half arsed job.. |

Of course contador should not even start sprinting in mass sprints but this cannot be programmed because how could the game decide wether it is a mass sprint or not. I mean in a small group he would sprint in real life too.
The main problem in may eyes is that the head of the peloton should only consist of sprinters and their lead outs at 10km to the finish. But at the moment the top riders are ahead of the sprinters and lead-outs. Combined with my other assumption the sprinters have little chances to overtake the top guys. |

Unless they form a train, which they also don't do.

The Maestro (aka plakker) may have found a solution!
Looks like I found a way to kill the sprintbug, but for that the savedgame needs to be edited after the 2nd day in career.
The AI does weird things with GC and Hillyriders, by giving them over 7 points of interest for sprints (within the scale of 5,0-8,5). By lowering these numbers you should be able to minimilize their interest in participating in sprints.
It should be even possible to create some kind of patch/script for it, that can be imported in a savedgame. But with such methods the standard-player will be far from happy....
Anyway my Rabo-testcareer will now have to endure this test.
With this same method also fav. races per rider for a season can be set, as well the participating in world champs (what seems to be a problem as well with this game)

OK, but what should I edit in the DB for that? Thanks in advance! |

Plakker is testing if this works out. Then he will tell what to do. |

Seems to me that that wouldnt solve the main problem which is that the AI doesnt move the sprinters forward or form trains

I think that would solve the main problem. Leaders having less interest in sprinting would mean they have less interest to stay near the front for the sprint which would mean most or all sprinters would be the ones at the front and they would sprint and the GC leaders wouldn't.
But this is still being tested and would likely be a problem for regens still. |

The thing that Plakker suggested seems to do the trick for me, and it isn't a big time consuming process either. Just do a little work with rank_f_orientation_sprint column in the DYN_Cyclist table. What I did was simply lower the top Flat/Hill/GC riders' stat to below 65 and push the figure for the sprinters a bit.
It gets much more realistic.

iv found the GC men winning sprints, not because they are good sprinters, but because they can keep a fast pace into the final couple of KMs and can hold on whiel the true sprinters come flying through but leave it to late. Im a bit annoyed because i finished my 1st good tour Paris-Nice and every stage was a peleton finish, i would have thought at least 1 stage the climbers would benefit. |

The problem seems multifaceted to me:
1. GC riders should realistically not be THAT far ahead in the peloton at that point in the race, nor should they risk injuries by taking part in a bunch sprint on flat stages. In real life they also don't have the necessary toughness to fight it out for position with the likes of Dean, Renshaw, Hushovd, Cav+++. This is for me the main flaw of the sprints as they stand today. There are quite a few other issues, but this is #1. The priorities of GC-riders in stage races needs adjustments. It should be all about the clock and safety on flat stages.
2. Sprinters should position themselves better. Not to mention the obvious lack of trains...or even a single lead-out for the top sprinters.
3. Short hills at the end of flat stages suck up too much energy for sprinters compared to real life. Yes, a hill at the end of a flat stage can lose a sprinter or two in real life...but IF that sprinter makes it over the hill, then he'll crush the GC-contenders every single time in real life. In PCM the sprinter will lose so much power that he falls short at the sprint.
4. Even on totally flat stages, GC-riders will still be fighting for the stage win and often manage to make quite a battle out of it. I would suggest that they for 2011 split the ACC ability in two; A) ACC for flat surface. B) ACC for hills/mountains. As of now, the ACC will launch a GC rider so far ahead in many bunch sprints that they often can keep pure sprinters away. I would also welcome a toughness rating. If you look at the bunch sprints of this year's tour they resemble cage fighting more than cycling... And if you're not extremely aggressive and used to this sort of fighting, you'll lose your position way before you can even see the finishing line as a more aggressive rider steals the wheel that you were clinging on to. It might seem drastic to add two new abilities to the game, but the sprinting aspect of PCM really needs to be reviewed. I love the game, but it's such a shame when you know that the game could be so much better with some (small) adjustments. |
