Cavendish getting back to his best then - and again Hushovd struggles. At this rate, Cavendish could actually drag himself back into the Green jersey hunt.

To back this up:

After Stage 4, the gap between Hushovd and Cavendish was 65 points.
Now 2 Cavendish wins later, the gap is down to 33.

Makes you wonder if Cav would have still tried in Stage 4 and got a top 3...

Gap definitely would have been closer. He shouldn't have given up there, if he is in fact trying for the green jersey. Maybe it won't matter in the end anyways though.

Cavendish said in an interview that Hushovd must be kicking himself for not taking Renshaw with him to Cervelo. Smile

It would have been easy for him too. Since Hushovd and Renshaw is so good friends he could just have asked the Cervelo management to sign him.

Renshaw is incredible. Came from behind up to 1st postion. Cavendish just had to sprint 200m and nobody had a chance.

Points:

Hushovd - 118
Petacchi - 114
McEwen - 105
Rojas - 92
Cavendish - 85
Hagen - 82
Turgot - 79
Thomas - 74
Ciolek - 71
Oss - 54

Awful positioning by Hushovd again. The fact that he's not that fast doesn't help either.

What a magnificent lead out by Renshaw though. And Cav's sprint was just superb.

And a fourth 4th place for McEwen.

He wouldnt have been Top 3, I reckon at most 6-8 points were lost then.

Hushovd did say at the start of last year that he told Cervélo to slice a bit off his contract so they could offer Renshaw more, but still Renshaw wouldn't sign because Columbia were offering a massive amount.

What the hell was Hushovd doing today? Just sat there in the bunch, keeping himself out of the trains...

Ok, I didn't know that. I guess it was a lost case then if Columbia was offering much more than Cervelo could

That wasn't the only thing to happen as McEwen crashed after the finish line.

I've learnt something today - when cyclists fight, they use wheels.
