As the season has drawn to a close for Wiggle - San Pellegrino Professional Cycling Team and the rest of the Pro Tour, it's often a time for sponsors, management and riders to look back and reflect on the successes and unfortunately the negatives of the previous years efforts.
Whilst foremost on the mind of the management was purely to remain in the Pro Tour for another season, the results gained in certain races cannot be viewed with any kind of disappointment. Even though certain goals set were missed, it wasn't ever due to any kind of lack of effort through the riders, and for that, the management are exceptionally happy.
The highlights of the season has had to have been finishing in the overall position of 13th in the Pro Tour, whilst along the way winning the Teams Classification of the Tour de France, coupled with a stage, winning multiple Giro d'Italia stages, and coming 4th at the recent Giro di Lombardia.
Our home grown, nutured talent, Simone Ponzi has been in excellent form once again, gaining the adoration of many fans for his attacking style and quick finish. Supported in the leading of the team by Yaroslav Popovych for this season, he's successfully managed to brush off the pressure to perform. Popovych on the other hand, faced sterner tests in the Professional Peloton, with highlights being his 9th and 10th overall positions in the Tour and Vuelta respectively. Concerns over whether he's happy at the team for next season continues to mount however, and the management is keen to stress that they are happy to refocus on the underdog approach to stage races.
With that in mind, Paolo Scarponi and Teodoro Costagli have both experienced the Triple this season in terms of Grand Tours (Scarponi; G25th, V36th, T45th. Costagli; G28th, V35th, T92nd.) and in the process have learned a tremendous amount. Hopefully they'll be both ready to take on a new role within the team for next season.
For the coming season, the team is exceptionally happy to welcome back Mikhail Ignatiev. Hope is high that he'll be able to regain his former form and put behind him his abysmal year in the Continental Tour.
Riders on the team are aware that coming into the contract discussion stage of the season, there are not enough spaces, or funds, to keep the team together. The Anglo-Italian theme to the team has, perhaps, been a little too diluted over the past season, and a return to that strong force will be a certainty.
A vast overhaul of the team is not on the cards for the coming year, but rumours fly about over the title of the team. Could new sponsors be on the horizon? Watch this space!

Wiggle Professional Cycling Team
Wiggle are pleased to announce the continued sponsorship of a Professional Cycling Team as run by Mr Cleaver. After their first season in the Pro Tour, the taste of which was very appetising, their continual business growth has been matched and surpassed by the continual growth within the team.
With increased awareness of their brand, the pressure is definitely on from Wiggle to increase the quality of results that the team continues to achieve. The budget is, however, expected to fall for the coming season, with results from certain big name riders not forthcoming. Although a major overhaul is not in order, a shift away from immediate stage race results in the mountains may well be a concern for the year ahead.
Though with the expected return of the team's wandering Russian, interest is certainly at an all time high to see just how he'll perform at the highest level. A level he's not been seen at for some considerable time.
Although Italian success was much the focus for last season, unfortunately San Pellegrino have decided that the success was not enough to warrant continued high-level sponsorship, and as a result, have stepped down from being a Primary Sponsor, and from being included within the team name. A return to the name of old, Wiggle Professional Cycling Team, has come about, and with that, a new jersey.
A radical overhaul in design, combined with a change in secondary sponsorship, sees much change from the jersey of old.
The continued practice of searching for young talents will, of course, continue into the new season, with focus appearing to change towards time trials and cobbled hard man classics.
The full list of the sponsors for the 2013 season are as follows;

Italian media reports that Wiggle rider Marcello Pavarin is said to be unhappy with his role in the team and the demotion of Italian co-sponsor San Pellegrino.
Additionally, recent Avenir runner-up Paolo Scarponi states he is worried about the progress that Cattaneo makes recently.
Team Puma - SAP would happily welcome either or both of these riders and give them the chance to ride more freely.
To make them feel more comfortably, the management pointed out that Daniele Ratto would be a perfect addition to their sprint train and would ease the familiarisation.
We eagerly await a reaction from Wiggle management.

Wiggle Professional Cycling Team were quick to respond to allegations, lies and misleading facts being stated in the Italian Media today. Well known for printing made up information regarding cyclists, the public still often believe all that the media writes.
The management were quick to reinforce the truth that most of the riders on the team were secure in their contracts and wouldn't be available to be bought out. Even if the riders threatened to throw a tantrum or two.
A couple of the names that have come to light through the media, mainly Scarponi and Pavarin, were quickly reassured that their time to lead the team would come again. Scarponi, having now just reached his prime, is an exciting prospect for the team, and the management are thrilled to have him aim for some of the shorter stage races in this coming year. If he sticks around that is.
Pavarin, having led the team well this past season, as well as playing a key role in Ponzi's workforce, is believed to have been promised a place in all the monuments of cycling in the coming season, coupled with a berth in the Tour squad. Surely a move away from Wiggle Professional Cycling Team would be an illogical decision?
The management refused to comment on Ratto's position, preferring to re-iterate it's unpublished statements about the teams sprinters: "No sprinter is safe on Wiggle". With little in the way of results from the Rowe brothers this year, in terms of Pro Tour points, it is rumoured that both may soon see their last days in Wiggle colours, along with any domestiques hired to help them.

Nowadays rumors published in Ukrainian press involve the speculations surrounding 2012 Wiggle-San Pellegrino GT leader, experienced Jaroslav Popovych. As the same newspapers brought yesterday the story about PCT promotion of domestic team Metinvest-Emirates, it is not much surprising that Jaroslav is being linked with his homecountry team, new on the continental level.
Media are not saying anything about how big is the chance that Metinvest will hunt Popovych in the transfer season, or how likely this move could be. This is also maybe thnaks to the fact, that his present Wiggle team did not make any comments regarding future of this years 2GTs attender from Ukraine, also newly crowned the national champion. But one can guess Metinvest is extremly interested in Popovych, some sources also speculate about Metinvest looking with admiration toward italian youngsters in Team Wiggle, names like Tommy Zaini and Chiaffredo Grippo.

Rumours in the L'Equipe today suggest that Evian - MIAT manager JPH has spoken of his admiration for Damiano Caruso of Wiggle Professional Cycling Team. With Evian stepping up to PCT level, they are looking for leaders and sources suggest that they feel Caruso is ready to lead a team, a chance that he may not get at Wiggle. What does the Wiggle manager have to say about this speculation? |

The management at Wiggle Professional Cycling Team have been slow to respond in the recent days to rumours circulating about their current riders. With the transfer season still a little way off in the horizon, the management have still yet to draw up the plan for the coming year.
Unfortunately for Wiggle, Zaini will be returning to his proper squad next year after learning a lot at Pro Tour level from his loan. Grippo, who is still yet to show his true ability, is hand picked from the many neo pros who come through the ranks. Happily he's already declared his pleasure at riding for the team in the coming year should he get an adequate wage.
As already mentioned, Wiggle are relishing the savings in wage bill as they approach stage races with underdogs going for the general classification rather than a semi-favourite. Popovych does not currently look in a secure position to stay on the team, though the team refuse to comment on who they look to pass his services on to.
With the exceptionally likely chance that Popovych will be leaving the team, riders like Caruso, Diggle, and Pavarin will all be receiving their chances. The team expects those three to step up to the plate and look to secure some results in Grand Tours in the coming season. Diggle will once again look towards the Vuelta, whilst Pavarin and Caruso will likely support Ponzi in the Giro, and lead on single stages.

Wiggle Professional Cycling Team are exceptionally pleased to showcase the results that developing young riders produces. In this case, Paolo Scarponi produced the ride expected of him to take his National title in both the Road Race, and the Time Trial. As such, he will be riding in the glorious jersey designed for him.

I mean, come on, one of the main Italian riders I fought tooth and nail for to build the team around (I mean, look at all my domestiques, what's their focus? Hills.), who scores a vast chunk of my points, do you really honestly think I will ever part ways with him?! Really?!
It's like asking SportingNonsense to sell Frank Schleck. Or P3druh to part ways with Bakelants. It's just not going to happen.
*thanks to SN for pointing out my glaring error.
