The worst match I've seen ... ever, I think
Oh well, it won't be as bad when there's something to play for (I hope). |

I think both teams looked good i guess, but it was a boring game.
I still can't get over the trumpets, we will be watching games in Oz at 3am, how can we do that with these going off? And almost all pubs around the world will have to mute the game, because no one will be able to hear themselves talk. they will ruin the world cup, south africa need to wake up, but for some reason i'm not surprised they managed to find a way to screw everything up. |

quite tempted just to say fuck off but because I have just had a vaguely good exam I will respond calmly.
The vuvzelas create an amazing atmosphere in the stadium, a wall of noise hits the players when they step on to the pitch and doesn't let up up until well after the final whistle, this means that for those within the stadium there is nothing like it. Furthermore, the commentators microphones record separately from the pitch side ones so it is very easy for the broadcasters to set it up individually so that the noise is at whatever level they want. There is also the fact that every football match in South Africa has had vuvuzelas for the past 20 years and to get rid of them for the world cup would not only contradict any sort of local culture policy bar slash and burn but also cause the stadiums to be largely devoid of noise as local supporters, who make up the majority of people in the stadiums, are not used to making other sorts of noise and hence will just be silent. Finally they give South Africa an advantage, which given how weak they have been, is useful, as everyone knows that tournaments where the host team fails tend to fall on their face.

He played for my hometown club the past years, I thought only we called him like that
Still interesting to see him scoring permanently for Australia in contrary to his performances in club football (at least when playing for our team)... |

I'm sorry, but if this noise keeps being there in the actual World Championship, I'm pro never giving any kind of tournament to South Africa again |

No way Rafa can follow up on what Mourinho did with Inter. He deserves a shot though.

I think that the thing I'm going to miss most about Rafa is not the angry rants blaming everyone but himself, or constant bickering with the other managers, but his creepy man-crush on Lucas. |

It's quite sad to see Rafa go really. He certainly gave Liverpool a much more succesful period than that under Houlier, but the season just gone was extremely disappointing, so he was bound to go. The best replacement for him? I'd say Hodgson, but I'm not sure if he'd leave Fulham.

In fairness though, Lucas actually did pretty well at the end of the season when he began to play a slightly more forward role. More frustrating was the way he ignored Babel, but clearly he doesn't have great man-management skills. |

To be fair to Rafa, Babel's football IQ is in the "borderline retarded" zone.
Rafa's big mistake was signing the guy when it was obvious he'd never have the head to be a good player

True - Babel has a poor footballing brain, and clearly was overvalued. Babel always played best with Liverpool playing on the counter attack, so I guess it was ideal to use him as a sub when the games became stretched, but despite that Babel is always a danger for the opposition because of his pace and power, inspite of his sloppiness (or 'shloppiness' as Mr Hiddink would say ).
Liverpool fans' greatest memory of Rafa will be how he led a really awful team (compared to the opposition, I mean) to victory in Istanbul. It still amazes me looking back at the competition that we won. From being about 5 minutes away from crashing out at the group stages in the final game, to creeping past Chelsea and Juventus with vastly superior teams, to coming back from 3-0 down at half time against Milan. Considering the quality of the team that year with all the injury problems Liverpool were having, that is quite an amazing achievement. Essentially, that probably raised the bar too high. |
