beagle
www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/imageBank/m/Millar%20podium1.jpg

Hi, David Millar is here! My boss has been asked me to report about 1st half of my season. So please welcome in my blog, when I will report about racing during May and June.
Firstly I´m proud I can ride for An Post SKT. I was very happy to sign here after very disappointing season in Garmin. Now I´m willing to show I´m not yet old.
My season will start in France, where I will lead our team in Tour de Picardie. Well, as mentioned, this is my first race, so noone can expect great things from me. But I promise succesfull season!
Here is my race schedule until June. Main targets are bolded.

15/5 - 18/5 Tour de Picardie
20/5 - 23/5 Circuit de Lorraine
27/5 - 31/5 Bayern - Rundfahrt
3/6 - 7/6 Skoda - Tour de Luxembourg
9/6 - 15/6 Tour de Beauce
17/6 - 20/6 Ster Elektrotoer
22/6 Robert Price Grand Prix of Wales
26/6 National Championship - time trial
30/6 National Championship - road race

Well, that´s enough for now, hope you´ll follow me.

A question to D.Millar:

Do you think you have the abilities to score enough points for An Post SK to grab a top 5 spot in the CT rankings?

Gustav, An Post SKT is not only about David Millar. Yes, I´m leader, but we have several great and talented riders. I hardly believe, we´ll achieve TOP5, doesn´t matter, who scores most points from our team. On the other side, it´s almost sure that we won´t attack TOP3 this season, FdJ, LPR and BBO are "higher class"...

Nice little twist of event here Wink It's gonna be good to see how David Millar is gonna make an impact now that he is going to be the leader Smile I have to compliment you again for your terrific updates Smile

Off topic: When you export the results of a race, where do you find them? Or what to you do to get them? because when i press "export" I simply can't find the results afterwards Sad

Look at my number! 181! Looks like organizeurs count us between possible losers Smile Naturally, we are not main contenders. Our team are quite young and unexperienced, any podium place would be fantastic.

Stage 1

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/15052010-0.jpg

First stage was mostly flat with one mountain sprint. Evan Oliphant was sent into break. He fought bravely, but our secret goal (to take KOM jersey) was over his possibilities.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/15052010-2.jpg
Evan Oliphant in breakaway of day.

Peloton caught escapees with 15km to go and bunch sprint had to decided about stage winner and holder of yellow jersey. It was no surprise that Jimmy Casper was the fastest, he´s phenomenal sprinter. I finished safely in peloton, while Kelly, Cassidy and Ferris lost some time.

Stage 2

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/16052010-0.jpg

First of all, I must say I was wrong. It looked that some riders would try their luck on last mountain sprint, so I decided to counter. But on the top they stoped to ride and so I did. I´m not in great shape yet and don´t want to waste my energy in suicidal missions. Martin Elminger won bunch sprint, I finished deeply in pack again. Unfortunately I was alone, all my team mates stayed far behind peloton. Anthony Geslin sprinted 2nd again and secured yellow jersey for tomorrow.

looks like good choice, but:

1) 78FL/76COB makes him only little better than my current riders
2) he´s 36 atm and his declined age is set to 35, so I´m afraid his skills will drop soon Sad

olabj
Then set his decline age up with a few years, we won`t mind.
We won`t even mind if you give him one more or something on cobblesWink

I know. In the export map is only the two folders, Startlist and Eventlist. Itt's strange, but I hope it wokrs the way I've done, because it is a time-waster to write the results manually Wink

I hope, it works Smile

and now to back to my story

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, I´m back. Today I´m going to report about remaining stages in Picardie, then another French race called Circuit de Lorraine.

www.letour.fr/2008/TDO/img/logo.png

Stage 3

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/17052010-0.jpg

Cicrcuit stage with quite steep hill inside, we had to climb 6 times. Definitely hardest stage of tour. It was obvious that last climb will decide. But it was only half truth. Of course main contenders attacked as expected.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/17052010-1.jpg
Young British talent Chris Froome launches attack in last climb.

I tried to follow, but was caught by peloton just before summit. Only Froome and Fedrigo stayed ahead of pack and gained about 45s advantage.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/17052010-2.jpg
Last downhill before finish line

It looked escapees will hold until end, but we didn´t give up and attacked again and again! Unfortunately I cracked 3km before line and lost contact with other chasers.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/17052010-3.jpg
Last useless attempt...

I was caught by peloton and was glad to see finish line just before us, I felt very very tired. Despite of significant gaps between riders in finish, no time gaps were counted. I think stage winner Pierrick Fedrigo had to be a bit frustrated Smile

Next stop in my season was another French 4 stages long race Circuit de Lorraine. I felt much better, only suffered with daily form (e.g. +5 in opening flat and -3 in hilly stages).

Stage 1

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/20052010-0.jpg

Opening stage of tour was calm with mass sprint in the end. Aurelien Duval ain´t excellent sprinter, but was fastest man today. Domination of FdJ is unbeliavable...

Stage 2

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/21052010-0.jpg

Short, but hilly stage. And from my point of view, very interesting one.

All has started with attack of Rabobank rider Dimitry Kozontchuk. He attacked about 50km before finish.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/21052010-1.jpg

He was alone in front next 30km, still with advantage more than one minute, when his fellow countryman Roman Klimov moved ahead. Damn, that young Russian is really good.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/21052010-2.jpg

He quickly caught Kozontchuk and continued alone. All of you probably know rule about action and reaction. And quick reaction was obvious. Main contenders attacked peloton. I didn´t felt comfortably (-3), but had to act too. So I countered.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/21052010-3.jpg

I closed my eyes and used all my power to go ahead. Sudenly I found that I´m in leading 5-men group! My companions were Tosatto, Van Winden, Hoogerland and Van Hecke. With 5km to go, we were 40s before peloton!
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/21052010-4.jpg

But...there was 4km long hill up to finish and my yellow bar was empty soon...only Hoogerland and Van Hecke were able to hold off ahead until finish, while I cracked again.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/21052010-5.jpg

Both were beaten by Klimov few meters before line though...great performance by young Russian rocket. I finished totally exhausted 9th and moved up to 11th place overall. So I would be probably satisfied.

Stage 3

I hoped for moving up to TOP10 overall before stage...

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/22052010-0.jpg

There were many breakaways through whole stage. But real race started with 24km to go, when Ten Dam initiated break. Pineau, Hoogerland and Duval countered. I decided to stay calm and wait for yellow jersey´s move. First mistake, I had to try join them.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/22052010-1.jpg
Laurens Ten Dam attacks

Klimov and some other attacked in last, short but very steep hill. Too steep for me...but I had to follow. Second mistake.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/22052010-2.jpg

Unfortunately my legs didn´t go well and I wasn´t able to keep with them. Only Mats Boeve (Rabo CT) stayed with me. I wanted to make gap lower and relay all the time. Third and last mistake.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/22052010-3.jpg

Boeve outsprinted me easily and (worse) peloton caught us and finished with same time.

Exhausted Millar...again Grin

Oh, I mostly forgot, Pineau won in sprint of leading group, Hoogerland took yellow jersey from Klimov.

Stage 4

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/23052010-0.jpg

Final stage was flat with bunch sprint. I felt very good and tried to hold with sprinters. 6th place, my season best, was the result. Good finish. Lars Croket took stage win, Johny Hoogerland kept his yellow jersey without any problems. Great victory for Vacansoleil.

Well, I have thought about TOP10 after stage 2, 13th place is not terrible though. Now we are going to move to Germany, where we will join Bayern - Rundfahrt. Although I´m still not in great shape, race profile suits me and I´d like to attack TOP5 there.

As mentioned before, I wanted to attack top places here. Plan was simple: to survive first three stages without time deficit and hit in stage 4, 25km long time trial. And survive last stage of course.

Stage 1

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/27052010-0.jpg

Easy opening stage. Every break was liquidated by restless peloton, Serramenti rider LA Mate surprised all favourites in bunch sprint and took yellow jersey.

Stage 2

Stage 2 was more dangerous for my plan, but I was fully concentrated and did´t lose control over race. Last kilometres were quite upset due hilly terrain, but we arrived together until finish. Xavi Florencio won sprint and become new holder of yellow jersey..

Stage 3

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-0.jpg

How could I resume this stage? Probably nightmare or horror with unbeliavable happy end... I´m very tired, but happy that I can still fight for high positions. But I am very angry about my overall performance, especially tactics.

Strong group of 12 operated in front. There were some interesting name, e.g. exceptrional time trialist Stef Clement. But he lost several minutes after fall in stage 1, so he wasn´t real threat for me.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-1.jpg
Bart Dockx is asking for watter

28km to go, when leaders had almost 3mins over peloton and situation started to be serious, Mate with Gottfried attacked.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-2.jpg

And they unleashed the fury! Froome, Lefevre, Bole and Pietropoli attacked...
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-3.jpg

I wanted to wait for neccessary move from Florencio or even better for penultimate small hill for my move and let riders like Posthuma, Gadret or Coppel go. But when Florencio decided to move (still on flat), I followed.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-4.jpg

And everything went smoothly, I joined group of main contenders. Meanwhile Clement attacked leading group and continued alone.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-5.jpg

I don´t really know, how it happend, but sudenly I lost contact!
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/29052010-6.jpg

I tried to make everything what I could, but there was still big gap and I couldn´t bridge it until finish. Luckily for me, organizeurs were very benevolent (or had broken timeclocks) and counted same time to first 27 riders! It means that I didn´t lose any time and on the other hand gained more then 2 or even 3 minutes to others.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/31052010-0.jpg

Last stage of tour was really hard, with many dangerous attacks. I had not other choice then be active as well, as I didn´t want to miss something important.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/31052010-1.jpg
One of many attacks, I´m on 5th place here

Due to hard work of FdJ team, protecting 2nd place of Jerome Coppel, all breakaways were eliminated. Expect last one. Maxim Iglinskiy tried his luck several kilometers before line and he succeed. Luckily his advantage was too small to making time gap and nothing important happened in general classification. It means I hold great 3rd place!!!
