Thats a good move for QSI. Now they can have a proper 'dream team' of Bettini, Boonen and Ballan. They would dominate the classics, unlike this year!
Dont forget van Petegem and super strong Steegmans..who might be next year be stronger then Tom. |

I was trying to keep it to the 'B's'! Seriously though, I suppose Steegmans and van Petegem might captain some of the minor classics, but they'll never be true leaders. Don't think that Steegmans will be better than Tom, but you never know i suppose... |

Look how Steegmans should slow down at least two times..to let Boonen win. In TdF he forget to do that..

Cândido Barbosa will not stay at Liberty. he has offers from 4 teams.
when asked if the fact Benfica are offering him a huge salary will have any bearing on his decision he replied (loose translation):
"of course it will. that said, it's not about the money. To illustrate that point, if Porto had a cycling team, I'd pay to ride for them"

Ermanno Capelli, a young super talent, has signed with Saunier Duval for the next three years (!).
Chris Horner is still negotiating with Predictor - Lotto, but he has said he's also looking at other possibilities (Slipstream, anyone? )
Lampre wants to keep Alessandro Ballan, but currently they simply can't pay his wages. If they don't get a new main sponsor Ballan will have to leave. |

let's see. he has a lot of potential, but he's yet to deliver...
so far he's been so inconsistent. above all he's been in form at all the wrong times of the season. always peaking at small early season races instead of the big ones.
let's hope that changes with experience

I don't know why Barbosa stays in Portugal, I'm sure he could have some degree of success internationally. Portugal has nothing to offer to good riders, there is not enough money to generate interest, to develop youths, about nothing worthwile at all in terms of cycling development, it's all big pile of regionalism and self-interest. |

he's most likely going to ride for a team that will be at next year's Vuelta and that are in talks to ASO about participating in the 2009 Tour.

he had. he rode for Banesto for a few years.

most of that is fair, but not the last part. there's no regionalism or self-interest. there's simply no money to compete at the top level of the continental Tour. except for Benfica, starting next season...

I guess I'm behind with the transfer news, but I was shocked when looking at the summary from this year that Bennati left Lampre... Guess it was part of the financial troubles mentioned with Ballan... |

their co-sponsor left, plus Di Luca will command a huge salary if he does join as is thought
so...not much room left in the payroll
besides, Bennati's attitude was hardly stellar. he behaved like a spoiled brat every time he wasn't designated leader, and even complained to the media that he "might have to move to Liquigas where he's properly valued".
between Ballan and a guy with that attitude, I know who I'd keep...
