Kittel in great shape there with a group of just 35 over those lumps and takes the win.

... Kittel!
Well, he has got the hang of speedbumps then. Sagan blocked in for most of that sprint, could have cost him.

Yeah Sagan might have been close but lost position in the last km and was boxed and fighting until the last 100m.

Thats was fabulous from Kittel. Didn't even see him in the front till the end.
Sagan got bloked at 2k, and just couldnt get through quick enough.

Kittel must be feeling in good condition after the Tour Down Under. J.J. Lobato must be frustrated and confused how Kittel made it over those climbs when soo many others did not.

Kittel
Lobato
Sagan
Group of roughly 30 at the finish means Kittel gets his speedbump badge indeed

I doubt that Kittel will come over those speedbumps later in the season even though it was surprising today. Seems to be in excellent form.
But normally I would expect Sagan, Goss, Rojas, Lobato and eventually Greipel to be stronger on those hillier sprint finishes.
But Kittel said before Dubai already that he expects 3 sprint finishes in Dubai. So he felt confident.

Apparently Cavendish was with that group too but must have been hanging on at the end?
Edit - yup just freewheeling at the back looking knackered. Even if a few sprinters made it great stuff from Kittel.

That would be an easy win for Sagan, if not being blocked for almost 2kms.
This is early season,so Kittel can get over speedbumps, he wont in July. Anyway nice win and great form for him, congrats!

Indeed, before the stage odds for Kittel were around 6/1, then in play on bet365 jumped to 14/1. Too good of a price to resist. And luckily he made it worth it :-)

Coquard was good early-season last year as well.
Curious how he'll perform in the WT races, which I assume he'll ride now Europcar is WT.
Only rode GW last year, no other WT races I think.

He is riding the TDF this year so I doubt he will ride another GT given his age:

Looking at some of his results in more detail from last year I think the Vuelta would be a good fit for him though. He is decent over hilly terrain and the competition would be a bit easier.
