That was bad advice. When I criticised it earlier it wasn't because I thought he was rubbing it in people's faces (though there is an element of that), but rather it just looked stupid...
Well if he is doing Forrest ,than it have to look stupid
But i understand someone like robots more, who throw the arms into the air and that is all.

Nothing wrong with tradition.
EDIT: Though I do like things like Flecha doing the bow and arrow, because that's clever.

I like sagan, I really do, because he is a great rider, but I just think it's not very sportsmen like for such a good rider to do a celebration like that - i mean everyone else is on full sprint behind him and he is doing his jokes, so one could easily get the impression he's making fun of them, although that may not be the case. |

well he is just a kid.
Bad part is..he is not getting more fans with that. Oposite..strong haters group will develop. And it is very difficult to restore reputation.
We all know that on this forum.. |

So a 22-year-old kid who just won his 2nd Tour de France stage (which is very, very rare for such a young kid) isn't allowed to show enthusiasm?
Cycling would be rather dull if everyone were like Wiggins. |

I can bet at least 33% will say bad...fact
we have seen realy happy stage winners..this is moment they can not hide a emotion.
It is contagious even behind screen..
But sry. this is not.
Yeaah guys is 22..having fun. Nothing wrong there. Why not. What I am trying to say is..he wont get more fans with that.

He can celebrate all he wants, but maybe after crossing the line so it doesn't look like he doesn't have to put in any effort to beat his opponents(although thats obviously the case ) it' a matter of respects - its as simply as that!
and come on a 22-year-old KID - it may have been only his second tour stage, but i think I remember it right, he has won one or two races before, hasn't he? |

Exactly this, i always thought enthusiasm for the sport is admired by majority, but obviously not.

In his defence, a Tour stage is kind of bigger than everything else he has ever won in his life and represents the pinnacle of most riders' career.

It is, but some people just think that the way he celebrated looked a bit douchey. Notice I said looked, because I'm sure most people have a good opinion of Sagan, because I've never seen/heard him anything that leads to think he's arrogant.
Anyway, I'm kinda in the middle term in this discussion, and can understand both points of view, so I'll enjoy how you fight each other.

Oh gosh, and what he is supposed to do to show he is happy and do something for this fans? (because his real fans like that, he is doing it for fun, for his fans). If somebody has a problem with 22 year old kid dominating like this, he should quit watching cycling, because he will have really bad time in the next years. And he will not be forced to hide his real hate behind calling his celebration stupid or compare him with asshole acting of Cavendish.
I have never heard any single bad word about Sagan from his opponents, they all say he is humble and polite person and nobody thinks that he is doing that to humilize them. That is only stupid construction of people sitting in front of their TV...

Bloody hell. A guy can't even celebrate without getting stick.
It's his first Tour and he's won 2 stages. It's good to see someone happy (compare his celebrations with Mario Balotelli after scoring a goal; I know which one I prefer). I don't think he's being disrespectful just enthusiastic.
As someone who teaches English every day I always admire these multilingual athletes - they not only have to train to do their job but then have to give interviews in more than on language. |

I agree that i may look like that, but i hope serious cycling fans are able to filter that and spot the real point.

Come on people, it's Sagan. The guy is awesome in every way. From what I've seen of him in a couple of interviews is anything but arrogant, so just let him be young and bring a little animation to the world of cycling. You know he's only been able to make those celebrations because of the ease of those victories. Had anyone forced him to a sprint to the line he wouldn't be able to reproduce such choreographies, so imo it's only natural that someone of his age jokes about that.
Also I don't really understand how Sagan's salutes may take fans from cycling. I think it'll work the other way around. Regardless of the judgement on this matter, people will always be curious about what's he going to do next. Any publicity is good publicity.
But I like Guido's idea of the poll.

wow calm down avin. I would have really liked to hear what you would have said if this wasnt about Sagan, but any other rider like Schleck or someone...
As I said I dont have a problem with the stupid dance, forrest gump or whatever he does, he could have just done it after the line. Its like you didnt even read my post you just spoted the word sagan and some LITTLE critcism(its not like I said something harsh about him) and then start your next Sagan-glory post. Yes he is a great, superstrong rider everyone saw that and knows it... but I will keep my opinion this was disrespectful to the others behind him, who were give their everything
And please everyone stop calling a 22 year old a kid, seriously!
edit: And I never said anything about him being arrogant - I dont know him. I was just talking about how the pictures looked

Sorry if i sounded harsh, it is the way i communicate, clear and straight
I am not a blind fanboy, as soon as Peter will do something which will be unsportmanlike, i will admit it, dont worry. So far he brings me joy only and i like it to share with others here.
I read your post carefuly and i did not agree about disrespect thing, so i countered. And you said it is disrespectful, because the rest gave that that all they have, so you think Peter not? He gave that everything also as the others and than animated the action a bit with the celebration, because he can afford that with a nice gap, no problem from my point of wiev.

Well the easiest way is to agree to disagree then btw I think it was a great sprint by peter except for the celebration.
Also to both get in a nicer mood and finally change the topic it's great to see Velits up there as well, isn't it? I really like him since his first days with milram and hope he can achieve something great in this tour(both peter's are in my fantasy team )
