Yes looks like the lead Sky rider of the 3 got that corner very wrong (not sure who? though he wasn't alone in that) and Ferrari nailed it to just get the wheel. |

Yeah, Sky's train was simply awful today:
1. Henao and Uran working for Cav! why?
2. The last corner was tricky, but Sky's leadout made it look like a rollercoaster.
In my opinion it wasn't Cav's fault today. By the time he started sprinting he had about a 6 bikes distance to Vaitkus/Ferrari

Ferrari was behind Cav. They both had to hold in or they would have crashed into the Sky rider. Ferrari passed Cav, and he just couldn't hold the wheel.

I think Ferrari managed to carry more speed coming out of the corner but you're right that Cav made no impression after that.

Not sure about that - I thought Kennaugh was the guy before that. Im sure Harmon mentioned him being on the front with about a km to go.
Really, it would have been better for Sky if only Thomas was ahead of Cav going into that turn

Ferrari crushed Cav today! Chicchi also had great speed at the end, but he was to late. |

This, not sure why they had 2 left ahead with 400m to go... |

Dunno if he fell as he was doing bit of leadout at 5km to go and finished 65th with same time as winner.
Organizers gave Schleck same time as winner... He came with the peleton purely because of the pile up in that crash I think.

Great interview with Cavendish and Ferrari atm - wish I spoke Italian! Just got the English bit from Cavendish saying "he did a good sprint today but is lucky to be in the race" while Ferrari listens back stage
*Edit*Also went on to say that Ferrari's NOT to blame as he doesn't make the decision obviously. Now an extended face off with his greatest fan Mario! Say's he expected to carry more speed through the last corner maybe should have been in a smaller gear given tightness and possible slow down but then was overgeared in the finale after slowing.
Hats off to Ferrari given the pressure he must have been feeling from inside the peloton after the amount of riders brought down in that crash.
Kind of a shame they softened up Cav beforehand with some footage of his daughter or he might have been a bit more spikey in the interview

You can't read it that way. Cav had to lose all his speed in order to avoid the crash while Ferrari was able to maintain much more speed coming from the corner due to a cleaner trajectory.
So by the time Cav reached sprinting speed he already had too much distance and a lot more energy spent than the other 2.
But chapeau to Ferrari, he was seriously strong today.

Are you sure?
Because according to the Gazzetta homepage, he lost 46s.

Might have reviewed it and realised he wasn't with the group when the crash happened? |
