Stage 16, starting in the little town of Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux to Gap. 162.5km long and the danger is in the last 20kilometres, with the climb and descent of the Col de Manse (9.5km at 5.2%). A stage for a breakaway, or????
img69.imageshack.us/img69/9607/profilmw.jpg

What a boring stage, I really have difficulties not to fall asleep while driving the team car. Nothing really happens, not even in Veynus, where the Intermediate sprint is located. The sprinters must have fall asleep as well, because they start to sprint when the first riders of the peloton have crossed the line... Leopard leads the peloton, so Fabian Cancellara is first in this IS, in front of Jens Voigt and Coen Vermeltfoort.
img819.imageshack.us/img819/4052/2isu.jpg

Then immediately after the IS, finally some action!! Garmin's Tom Danielson and Quick Step's Jerome Pineau attack. The 2 create a maximum lead of 2'30.
img194.imageshack.us/img194/721/348km.jpg

One climb to go, before the finish is crossed: The Col de Manse, 9.5km long with an average gradient of 5.2%. Not that difficult, but mostly known of one crash: Joseba Beloki broke his hip in the descend in the Tour of 2003, while Armstrong in the yellow jersey nearly could avoid him and crosses to some grass fields to maintain his route.
img855.imageshack.us/img855/8844/coldemansecorpsprofile.jpg

Immediately after an unsuccesful attempt by Igor Antón, it's Andy Schleck who attacks 1km from the summit. 2 man follow him: Contador and Sánchez.
img694.imageshack.us/img694/4126/4schleck.jpg

Pineau and Danielson are the first ones on the summit, but closely followed by Contador, Andy Schleck and Sánchez. Evans, Fränk Schleck and Nibali close the gap.
img850.imageshack.us/img850/6321/5kotm2.jpg

After the descend, 57 riders are together and will fight for the win in Gap.
img819.imageshack.us/img819/5328/65km.jpg

Already in the last kilometre and Cadel Evans is looking for his second stage win. Ryder Hesjedal is in god position, while Sánchez, Gilbert and Andy come from behind.
img143.imageshack.us/img143/2505/71km.jpg

This one goes to Samuel Sánchez! He beats Hesjedal with one bike-length. Andy finishes in 3rd, in front of Gilbert and Evans. Also De Gendt and De Maar finish in this first group.

Word from the DS: A good stage for us. Andy did great, tried to attack, but there were too many riders in the leading group to make a cut. 3rd in the sprint is great for him. Also De Gendt and De Maar did a great job, staying in the first group. One thing we noticed when Andy attacked before the summit of the Col de Manse, was that Basso and brother Fränk did not follow.... Tomorrow will be more difficult!

Stage 17 and the real first stage in the Alps. But looking at the 2 next stages, the GC-contenders probably will take it easy, untill the Pramartino. Today's stage will takes us over the Montgenevre across the Italian border with the finish in Pinerolo. 8km before the finish is the summit of the Cote de Pramartino and a dangerous descend follows.
Km 96.5 - Col de Montgenèvre (1 860 m) - 7.9 km climb to 6.1 % - Category 2
Km 117.0 - Sestrières (2 035 m) - 11.1 km climb to 6.3 % - Category 1
Km 171.0 - Côte de Pramartino - 6.7 km climb to 6 % - Category 2
img710.imageshack.us/img710/1366/profilnv.jpg

Oh no, what's this?? A BOTD? Yes, of course. 13 riders are in int, and I don't bother giving you all the names. The Intermediate sprint in Villar-Sant-Pancrace is won by Lampre's Grega Bole, in front of FDJ's Remi Pauriol and Rabo's Maarten Tjallingii. The peloton is 3'23 back.
img84.imageshack.us/img84/980/1isf.jpg

Vacansoleil's Bjotn Leukemans is the first to cross the summit of the Col de Montgenèvre (1 860 m), followed by Cyril Gautier (Europcar) and Pauriol. The gap to the peloton has risen to 7 minutes.
img825.imageshack.us/img825/6938/2kotm1.jpg

With 62km left, the riders arrive at today's highest point, the Col de Sestrières (2 035 m). Johan Vansummeren (Garmin) surprisingly is the first (according his weight), followed by Gautier and Pauriol. The gap to the peloton is still 6 minutes.
img338.imageshack.us/img338/2397/3kotm2.jpg

The peloton has done a very high pace in the nest 40km, thanks to the Leopard-guys, and with 20km to go, they're only 3'33 back to the leaders.
img42.imageshack.us/img42/1161/420km.jpg

Then the last climb of the day start. the Côte de Pramartino - 6.7 km climb to 6 %
img825.imageshack.us/img825/5773/collepramartinovillarpe.jpg

Rémi Pauriol attacks out of the leading group with 16km to go. Only big Vansummeren can follow. The peloton is 2'00 back.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/9305/5pauriol.jpg

14km to go, and 2.5 km of climbing left and Cadel Evans attacks out of the peloton. Contador and Andy Schleck go in the counterattack.
img847.imageshack.us/img847/5480/614km.jpg

But another bad daily form (-2) of Andy makes he has to let the 2 go.....
img546.imageshack.us/img546/2744/713km.jpg

The same happens with Cadel, he can't follow Contador and gets passed by yellow Fränk. The two are the first riders on the summit. Only a short descend left. The chasing group with Andy in it follows at '24.
img710.imageshack.us/img710/884/8kotm3.jpg

Thanks to great descenders as Sánchez and Evans, Contador and Fränk are caught, and with 5km to go 37 riders are up front to fight for the stage win.
img560.imageshack.us/img560/8121/95km.jpg

Andy has chosen the right wheel, the one of yesterday's winner Samuel Sánchez. Michele Scarponi starts to sprint 1500m before the finish. Andy is in 3rd position.
img856.imageshack.us/img856/3842/102km.jpg

But where Sánchez can pass Scarponi, the Italian blocks Andy, so he looses his great positioning. 500metres before the finish, Cadel Evans leads the sprint, followed by Euskaltel's Antón and Sánchez.
img832.imageshack.us/img832/8700/11500m.jpg

And it's 2 in a row for Sammy Sánchez! In a great sprint he beats Evans and Contador easily. Andy finishes in 6th.

Points, KOTM, U25, Teams: no important changes.

Word from the DS: Nothing to be said about this stage. Andy was in bd form today, and couldn't follow his 2 main rivals. But there's no damage, to no-one. The next 2 day are very important, but I doubt if there will be big gaps...

What a great stage, the 18th one. 3 cols over 2000metres altitude, including a finish on the holy Galibier!

But the game crashes 3 times..... First time while in the descent of the Izoard a grup with Basso, Sánchez and Evans have taken 2 minutes, but Saxo and Leopard are closing it down. Second down with only 6km to go, with Andy in the lead. he made an early attack on the Galibier and had a 2minute lead (but it was getting smaller with 20 seconds every km!). The third time on the summit of the Cold d'Agnes, when nothing had happened... AngryAngryAngry

So I got angry and frustrated and simulated (quick simulation) the stage. Of course, the result was NOT what I had in mind...Richie Porte and Lars Ytting Bak (WTF???? in a mountain stage??) finished in front of the peloton, Porte even 10 minutes.... Andy lost time against Contador, Basso and Evans, but Fränk cracked losing more than 8 minutes to Contador.

I know what you're thinking: ridiculous... Well, that's including me. BUt nothing I can do about....

Anyway, here are the results:

Word from the DS... Okay, not the DS, the real me. I feel very frustrated because I couldn't finish the stage, 3 times.... So then you decide to simulate and you end up losing time. Okay, you can live with that, but when you se the yellow jersey losing 8 minutes, you're 2nd rider losing over 30 minutes, and some guy winning the stage with over 10 minutesto the GC-contenders that never got close to finishing in the top 5 or 10.... Well, then you wanna throw away the game and even the notebook... That's all I have to say right now.......

Stage 19, only 109.5km long, from Modane to Alpe d'Huez. But this is a stage where a lot can and will happen. There are 3 big climbs in it, with a finish on the famous Alpe d'Huez.
Km 26.5 - Col du Télégraphe (1 566 m) - 11.9 km climb to 7.1 % - Category 1
Km 48.5 - Col du Galibier (2 556m) - 16.7 km climb to 6.8 % - Category H
Km 109.5 - Alpe d'Huez (1 850 m) - 13.8 km climb to 7.9 % - Category H
img811.imageshack.us/img811/8019/profilsm.jpg

The stage hasn't even started, when it explodes. In the descend to the Intermediate sprint in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne Sébastien Minard (AG2R) attacks and is joined by Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana, GC 18), David Moncoutié (Cofidis), Sergeui Ivanov (Katusha) and Johan Vansummeren (Garmin). Minard wins the IS, followed by Moncoutié and Vansummeren. The peloton is 1'50 behind them.
img651.imageshack.us/img651/5192/1isw.jpg

Then the riders start the long climb to the summit of the Galibier. First they climb the Lauteret, and after a small descend the climb of the Galibier.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/3969/coldugalibierchtelardpr.jpg

After HTC's Tony Martin has already jumped out of the peloton, Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) and GC's 16 Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin) attack.
img689.imageshack.us/img689/9407/2voeckler.jpg

At the summit of the Col du Télégraphe (1 566 m), David Moncoutié takes the points. He is followed by Vinokourov, Vansummeren and Ivanov. '57 behind come Voeckler, Hesjedal and Martin. The peloton is already 7'44 behind Moncoutié.
img690.imageshack.us/img690/3495/3kotm1.jpg

When the climb of the Col du Galibier (2 556m) starts, the 2 leading groups join. They set a high pace and Ivanov has to let them go. In the peloton, no team wants to take the responsibility to chase down the leading group. Not Saxo Bank from leader Contador, not Liquigas, not BMC, not Euskaltel. Because of this, the leading group gets a maximum lead of 11 minutes! Ryder Hesjedal is in virtual yellow now.
Hesjedal is the first in the summit, followed by Vinokourov and Voeckler.
img33.imageshack.us/img33/7761/4kotm2.jpg

Because we get frustrated of the laziness of the other teams, again.... Mark de Maar and Thomas de Gendt settle themselves in the front of the peloton and so close the gap to the leading group to 9'20.
img6.imageshack.us/img6/4089/5peloton.jpg

A crash by one of the riders: Coen Vermeltfoort hits the backwheel of Romain Feillu with his front wheel and crashes in the descend of the Galibier. Luckily, he can continue his route.
img214.imageshack.us/img214/7123/6valvermeltfoort.jpg

The last climb of this Tour, the Alpe d'Huez, 13.8km at 7.9%, with the finish at 1850metres.
img266.imageshack.us/img266/7413/huez.jpg

The leading group starts the climb and immediately Johan Vansummeren falls behind.
img72.imageshack.us/img72/5150/7startklim.jpg

Vinokourov sets the pace and with 10km to go, there are only 3 others left: Moncoutié, Hesjedal and Voeckler.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/9503/910km.jpg

2 more km and Moncoutié attacks. He creates a gap of '25. The other 3 work together.
img716.imageshack.us/img716/5772/108km.jpg

2500metres to go and Moncoutié still has a lead of 20 seconds.
img257.imageshack.us/img257/4210/112500m.jpg

The French champion is able to keep his lead, although Hesjedal tries it. He takes the 2nd win of the year (the first was winning the National championship). Hesjedal finishes in 2nd at '19, Voeckler 3rd and Vino 4th at '27.
img72.imageshack.us/img72/1674/12finish.jpg

Then we pay attention to the group of favourites. They start the climb 7'49 behind the leading group. Andy immediately takes the lead and sets a high pace.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/8454/8peloton.jpg

To be continued.... (have to eat now Wink)

Let's continue!

Nothing happens untill after the first hairpin. Yellow Contador attacks, and only Andy follows. When Contador sees that, he stops his attack.
img508.imageshack.us/img508/1715/1311km.jpg

9km to go and now it's time for Andy Schleck to attack. It's no surprise that Contador jumps on his wheel, and the two ride away together.
img405.imageshack.us/img405/3143/149km.jpg

But Andy can't keep up with Contador and with 7.5km to go, he has to let him go. Probably because Contador has seen his wife/girlfriend/mistress next to the road wearing the yellow jersey! The others are one minute behind them.
img546.imageshack.us/img546/4305/157500m.jpg

When the gap between Contador and Andy keeps getting bigger and bigger, a lot happens behind them. First Sánchez, Scarponi, Basso and Fränk Schleck try to make the jump. Then Fränk tries again, and eventually it's Cadel Evans who leads the chase to Andy. 2km before the finish, Contador has a gap of '49 to Andy, 1'24 to Evans and 1'37 to Fränk, Nibali, Antón, Sánchez and Basso.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/562/164kmu.jpg

El Pistolero wins the Tour at the Alpe d'Huez. He finishes in 6th place in the stage, 3'22 behind Moncoutié.
img69.imageshack.us/img69/5070/17contador.jpg

Andy finishes 1'10 behind Contador, Evans follows at
1'33, Antón at 1'40, Nibali, Fränk and Sanchez at 1'50. Basso is the biggest loser of the day, 2'12 behind Contador.
img253.imageshack.us/img253/8805/18andy.jpg
17 riders fall outside the timelimit, among them Oscar Freire, Greg van Avermaet, Matthew Goss, Yauheni Hutarovich and Martijn Maaskant and Niki Terpstra. So that's only 4 Monster's left...

Word from the DS: We tried...... Andy gave it all, but Contador simply was too strong. Andy gained some time on the others, but it is doubtful if it's enough to stay on the podium.

Stage 20, an individual time trial with start and finish in Grenoble. The 42.5km is hilly and the riders that rode the Dauphinée know the route, as it is exectly the same!
img803.imageshack.us/img803/277/profili.jpg

We will focus completely on the top 5 in the GC. With only them to finish, the best time is set by Sky's Bradley Wiggins, in 1h02'23.
img534.imageshack.us/img534/491/1wiggins.jpg

The situation for place 2 before the ITT:
2. Andy Schleck
3. Ivan Basso +12
4. Samuel Sánchez +45
5. Cadel Evans +48

Cadel Evans starts the ITT as the number 5 in the GC, but he is the favourite for the 2nd spot! His time at the first split is the best so far in 22'44.
img257.imageshack.us/img257/1615/2evans.jpg

Samuel Sánchez, the Spanish time trial champion, is '19 slower than Evans, but sets the 4th intermediate time (Wiggins is between them).
img845.imageshack.us/img845/1889/3sanchez.jpg

Ivan Basso struggles and is in 17th place, '55 behind Evans.
img408.imageshack.us/img408/9341/4basso.jpg

The same for Andy, 19th place + '57.
img846.imageshack.us/img846/4070/5andy.jpg

Contador is in a flow and sets the fastest time in 22'31, '13 faster then Evans.
img696.imageshack.us/img696/4907/6conta.jpg

Situation for the GC:
2. Evans +4'01
3. Schleck +4'09
4. Sánchez +4'16
5. Basso +4'22

Cadel Evans is also the fastest at the 2nd split time, '33 then Wiggins at 45'20.
img190.imageshack.us/img190/194/7ceu.jpg

Sánchez is in 3rd place, '34 behind Evans.
img249.imageshack.us/img249/8029/8ssu.jpg

Basso drops to 19th place at 1'50.
img849.imageshack.us/img849/6842/9ib.jpg

Andy is faster than Basso, but the 18th place at 1'48 from Evans is not good.
img820.imageshack.us/img820/3821/10asl.jpg

Contador is still the fastest today in 44'54, '26 faster than Evans.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/1975/11acr.jpg

The GC:
2. Evans +4'14
3. Sánchez +4'44
4. Schleck +5'13
5. Basso +5'27

Cadel Evans has heared that he is on the podium, overtakes Igor Antón and finishes in the provisional fastest time: 1h01'51.
img694.imageshack.us/img694/5968/12ceh.jpg

Samuel Sanchez looses '44 to Evans, will it be enough for the podium in this Tour?
img14.imageshack.us/img14/7857/13ss.jpg

Ivan Basso bows his head and drops from 3rd to 5th in the GC. He is 2'24 slower than Evans, and 19th overall.
img824.imageshack.us/img824/1717/14ibr.jpg

Andy Schleck gets passed by Contador, and forgets being huniliated by the Spanish rider. He hangs on to Contador and rides a very good last sector. He finishes the ITT in 15th place and 1'48 behind Evans. Sadly, 20 seconds too slow for the podium.
img171.imageshack.us/img171/921/16acd.jpg

With a big smile on his face, El Pistolero finishes the time trial. He sets the fastest time (1h01'20, '31 faster than Evans) and knows that he will win the Tour de France for the 3rd time!

Word from the DS: What we feared happened, Andy lost the podium today. Well, this fits in this Tour. We, and that's the entire team, rode a disappointing Tour. No stage wins, only 4 riders that will arrive in Paris, and last but not least no Top 3.... For sure is that we'll do things different next year, but not sure how...

Tuco the Ugly
That simulated stage really changed the Tour.

Get Andy on the TT bike!

I think it wasn´t that bad.....i told at the begining that Andy would have lots of work to do...well..he tried the best but with such weak helpers,it´s good result.

@ Tuco: I think Fränk Schleck was the only loser in the simulated stage, losing more than 8 minutes. The other results were pretty realistic looking at the other mountain stages this Tour, Contador winnig '30 to Basso & Evans, '40 to Andy & Nibali and '50 to Sanchez.

@ baia: I agree, Andy is a good climber, but the differences were so little between the climbers. Only Contador was way better than anyone else. WIth these small differences, it's up to the ITT. The helpere in the team were weak, only De Maar and De Gendt did a good job, but I don't think the outcome was different with a stronger team, because Andy lost the time in the final parts of the climbs.

Stage 21: Finally, Paris!! The riders start the race with the traditional well deserved glass of champagne for the jersey-wearers.

The route is a little bit different from the one irl. The Intermediate sprint is more early and there even is a small climb in it.
img72.imageshack.us/img72/5260/profiln.jpg

The opening of the stage is very nervous. Especially Thomas de Gendt wants to be in the BOTD He is in a breakaway group a few ties, but gets reeled in every single time. Then a group 8 creates a gap to the peloton. Hubert Dupont (AG2R) is the first to cross the line of the Intermediate sprint, followed by Damien Monier (Cofidis) and Tejay van Garderen (HTC).
img600.imageshack.us/img600/8547/1is1.jpg

De Gendt works his ass off to close the gap as he leads a chasing group. A few kilometres after the IS, the 2 groups merge. There are some great riders in it, besides De Gendt: Jérémy Roy (FDJ), Bram Tankink (Rabobank) Van Garderen, Anthony Charteau (Europcar) and Jerome Pineau (Quick Step).
img689.imageshack.us/img689/1640/2degendt.jpg

But they don't get far and thanks to the hard work from the Garmin - Cervélo team, there is a regrouping with 80km to go. At the only climb of the day, the last in this Tour, Stuart O'Grady (Leopard) junps away from the peloton to get the only KOTM-point.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/7922/3kotm.jpg

He is joined by the Danish champion Lars-Ytting Bak (HTC). The 2 arrive on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to start the last laps of the Tour. With 25km to go, and with a nice view at the Arc de Triomphe, the lead is 2'11, but everybody knows, it will be a mass sprint.
img36.imageshack.us/img36/6138/425km.jpg

And with 10km left, the 2 got caught. The preparation for the sprints begins and with 2km to go and the Obelisk of Luxor on the Place de la Concorde in the back, Juan Antonio Flecha leads out Edvald Boasson Hagen. The Norwegian youngster is looking for his 2nd stage win. But the Lampre train is coming on the side of the road. Coen Vermeltfoort tried to follow EBH, but 3430.5kilometres have been too tough for the young Dutch rider, and he falls back.
img819.imageshack.us/img819/4580/52kmp.jpg

It's Alessandro Petacchi who takes his 2nd stage win! Ale Jet beats Tom Boonen and Romain Feillu and can start the search for a bottle of champagne!
img80.imageshack.us/img80/9066/6finish.jpg

The same for this guy. Alberto Contador crosses the line and is now 100% sure of his 4th Tour de France win.

Word from the DS: We arrived in Paris, sadly only with 4 riders. De Gendt tried hard to get in the break, but that's almost impossible in this stage. We are happy the Tour 2011 is history!

Review
The Tour de France 2011 is history. It had some surprises in it, but also a lot expected results. As always, there are some positive factors, some disappointing factors.

Positive
img5.imageshack.us/img5/4819/240709contadortourfranc.jpg
Alberto Contador won two stages in this Tour de France and his 4th GC-win. He attacked a lot in the mountains and was the best climber. He definitely deserves this years victory and there is no person who can doubt that!

img831.imageshack.us/img831/372/2cadelevans.jpg
One stage win this year for Cadel Evans. The 2009 World champion had a weak team to help him, but is tough. He won the stage to Lourdes and earned is 2nd place in the GC in the ITT to Grenoble.

img266.imageshack.us/img266/1654/3samuelsanchez.jpg
Euskaltel's Samuel Sánchez won 2 stages, to Gap and to Pinerolo. The reigning Olympic champion was good in the mountains, could hang on to the best climbers and took the 3rd place because of a great time trial.

img713.imageshack.us/img713/2505/4ivanbasso.jpg
After the first 11 stages, Ivan Basso disappointed. But with two stage wins in the Pyrenées (to Luz-Ardiden and Plateau de Beille), he was back in the saddle for a GC-podium. His ITT was too weak for that, but he goes home with the polka- dot-jersey.

img600.imageshack.us/img600/3655/5edvaldboassonhagen.jpg
Edvald Boasson Hagen was a serious contender for the green jersey, mostly because of his climbing abilities. But the young Norwegian stunned everybody by winning the stage to Lisieux and getting four more podium finishes. The reward: the maillot verde!

img4.imageshack.us/img4/9505/6alessandropetacchi.jpg
The oldest of the sprinters, but the only one with two stage wins. Lampre's Alessandro Petacchi showed that he is worth his nickname Ale Jet, and finished 2nd in the points ranking.

Disappointments
img171.imageshack.us/img171/1274/7andyschleck.jpg
With a route that is designed for a climber, ANdy Schleck started 3 weeks ago in the Vendée with the goal of getting a stage win and a top 3 in the GC. In the end, he is empty handed. He had too many bad days (form between -5 and 0) in important stages, and even a great ride in stage 19 to Alpe d'Huez, that brought him to the 2nd place in the GC at that moment, wasn't enough for the podium. His ITT was decent, losing only 2'19 to Contador in 42km, but he got kicked off the podium. The question is if he will ride the Tour next year, or that the team management will go for Robert Gesink.

img607.imageshack.us/img607/1092/8bradleywiggins.jpg
After his 4th place in 2009, Sky's Bradley Wiggins could see himself on th epodium of the Tour de France. Well, being the number 21 is pretty bad and he really needs to evaluate his preparation and his abilities.

img33.imageshack.us/img33/7310/9jurgenvandenbroeck.jpg
Jurgen van den Broeck is still young, and wanted to make the next step after his 5th place in 2010. But the Belgium rider never really showed himself. He was too weak in the mountains, too weak in the ITT, and the 17th place is the result.

img62.imageshack.us/img62/6121/11andregreipel.jpg
André Greipel was one of the favourites for the green jersey. We can be short: no top 3 in a stage, and an early leave of the Tour after finishing outside the timelimit.

img193.imageshack.us/img193/449/10markcavendish.jpg
Probably THE biggest disappointment in this year's Tour. Being called the best sprinter in the world, who already won 15 stage wins in th elast 3 edition of the Tour, Mark Cavendish has to shame himself. The best result was an 8th place.... What was wrong with him?

img803.imageshack.us/img803/6548/monsterlogo2.jpg
And what about our team? We started the Tour with 2 goals: a stage win and Top 3 in the GC. We did not succeed in achieving those goals. The start was good, with the 8th place in the team time trial. Marcel Kittel had some decent sprints, finishing close to the top 10. The Pyrenées went bad, with Andy losing time and with 3 riders that finished outside the timelimit in the stage to Plateau de Beille. Then we saw a good Martijn Maaskant in stage 15 to Montpellier with the 2nd place. Andy Schleck rode very well in the stages to Gap, Pinerolo and the Alpe d'Huez, but his weak TT-abilities costed him the podium.
Conclusion: after a fantastic Giro, we have a bad to mediocre Tour de France.

A little bit dissapointing result in the end, but I think you did well when you think about that your team is one of the weakest except for Andy.

Some of the riders that were forced to leave the Tour de France early and some of the riders that had a nice holiday in July, will take part in the Tour de Wallonie. It's a 5-stage race in Wallony, the French-speaking part of Belgium. The 2010-edition was won by Sky's Russell Downing.

Stage 1, 147km from Amay to Banneaux, is the most hilly one. There are 6 KOTM-sprints, 3 Intermediate sprints and a 2km climb at 7% only a few km before the finish.
img825.imageshack.us/img825/4218/profiel1.jpg

Romain Zingle is on a mission today, winning the first 5 KOTM-sprints! It's no surprise that he takes the jersey after this stage.
img580.imageshack.us/img580/7695/4zingle.jpg

The peloton stays together almost the entire stage. 4km before the finish, when the last (not categorized) climb starts, Monster Energy-riders Sep Vanmarcke, Sebastien Rosseler and Pim Ligthart take the lead and set a high pace.

It works very well! When Vanmarcke's work is done, Rosseler takes over 1500metres before the finish. Ligthart is in his wheel and behind them a small gap is created to Yohan Offredo (FDJ) and Reinier Honig (Landbouwkrediet).

With this perfect lead-out, it's an easy job for Pim Ligthart. Rosseler takes the 2nd place, Honig 3rd.
