Yeah, it kinda shocked me when I read it. We'll know soon anyway.
I've got confimation from two other guys (on the eurosport comment section), saying there was an after-Tour movie showing it on french tv.

Not really important, but didn't he struggle this season with a bad knee in pre-season camp forcing him to train for himself rather than with the rest of the team?
He has been a LOT injured and sick, it's great to finally see him perform, but I never guessed he would do this well in grand tour mountain stages.

indeed lots of injurys also this year he was good in the hilly classics and cuz a guy doenst celebrate like he wonned the euromillions means he is doped ? yeah sure lets ban half of the peleton

I just read the live ticker and all the comments here (was out for a running competition after the Agnès start).
If Voeckler was only 30" faster than in 2004, that's excellent news.
As I was saying to a former cycling mate of mine this morning, there are a couple of factors explaining the current situation :
1) G.C. main contenders ride like pussies. Bar an injured Contador, Basso is the only one who ever won a G.T. others don't have the guts to act as favourites. So they do little attacks, get caught, and let Voeckler (or his team) do the pace. That pace will never be too high, so that Voeckler doesn't blow. And Voeckler, as a puncher, is the man to deal well with short attacks. Would Basso start riding like Ullrich or Armstrong, full pace from the bottom (with his team mates first), Voeckler would totally blow. But they don't have the guts to do it. Idiots, there's little dragging effect in the mountains, so that's not such a bold tactic.
2) They're all happy to let Europcar do the job for a couple more days. It's not like Voeckler has a 10 minutes lead over the other leaders.
3) Voeckler is probably in the form of his life. Usually riders/sportsmen peak at that age.
4) UCI/WADA sort of liberalised the use of corticoids. Apparently the French peloton found some ressource in those. I don't know specifically about Voeckler or Europcar, but the general scheme is that the French are back on the corticoids. I don't like that. But that reduces the differences with some other countries.
5) The "No Needle Policy", though it can't really be checked, probably affects the needle-friendly riders, reducing their performances to something more credible.
6) I'm really looking forward to reading a wattage calculation analyse to see if riders are faster or slower than usual, or if it's just my perception of things.

7) It also seem that French teams have generalised the use of cryotherapy and stuff like that for faster recovery. I suppose most teams do it, but maybe not al of them, which probably gives them a slight advantage over those that don't do it.

I think that's wrong, just under 47 minutes is what I've seen from the main group, 2 and a half minutes slower than Contador in 2007
Which is 3'30" quicker.
Seems like feasible progression, he is a much stronger rider than 2004.

On L'Equipe.fr I read that he claimed he wouldn't have been able to follow Armstrong and Basso in 2004, with today's legs.
It's probably true, although one should always be wary of propaganda... |

The GC is pretty close, but the price we had to pay (2 weeks of nothing happening) is too high.
We could as well make the Tour one week long so with one week to the finish you'd have 198 riders in 0 seconds.

Its open because the favorits are damn boring. Yes, its very open, thats nice, but also very boring and disappointing imo. Thats not nice.
