Was it really time he was after ?
He was pushing til the very last meter, so that's certainly what it looked like.
Have you ever heard about Philippe Gilbert? He always attacks, if he thinks the pace is to easy, he attacks, even if he only gains 50 seconds and 6 points.
Great win by Hushovd!

Its the way he charged all the way to the line that makes me wonder - he beat Mollemma for 10th by quite a lot, and had the look of someone looking for time
Seemed so to me too. And I understand him very well, being top 10, joint 9th, is pretty good in the TdF
But he will loose lots of time tomorrow, if he doesn't come up with something veeeeery special.

Oh and Quickstep were helping Europcar for a short period of time on the last kilometres. Was that some kind of weird Belgian thing with Gilbert wanting to pass De Weert? |

While we are at it, why don't we put 85 on everything? |

Me neither, and I'm very wary of nationalism in general, but fact is you just don't stand a chance when you're of equal strengths and your opponents do it (and you don't).
I'm a bit gutted for both the French that were ahead today, as a victory by any of them would have pleased me, but I like Hushovd too, so kudos too him, he played it smart (ok, beating Moncoutié at a mind game isn't so much of an achievement ).
Forgot to write it, but the French have often ridden to make each other lose, rather than to defend their own chances. Being neutral to each other is what I'd like (in an ideal world), but what they've done or been doing is beyond my understanding.
Example : breakaway of six guys escapes, with 3 French riders among them, and 3 foreigners. Who'll lead the chase if none of the riders is a threat to the G.C. leader ? The other French teams, just because they missed the break. Not the break but a break with other French riders and French teams riders in it.

This.
I really didn't understand what Moncoutie did. He had no chance against Hushovd on this terrain, but he still worked with him.. I don't get it, it's like two years back, when Garmin worked againt Hincapie getting the yellow in Columbia's colours, so it was French team against French team?

The Cofidis manager said afterwards that it was a bit hard for them. Without helping the little chance for the win was 0. With helping it was at least a little chance.
Also in the end it was worth it. Instead of a 3rd he finished 2nd. |
