Circuit Franco-Belge Stage 4 Report

The last stage of this flat tour. Bonnet and Furlan lead the favourites, after what they have done on the past three stages. For us though we are still searching for a top 5.

A small breakaway gets away, but Bbox has no problem bringing them back. So lets just get to the sprint ...

With a kilometer left, looks like Bonnet nor Furlan is going to win today. Bad positioning by them today. On the other hand, we still have everybody intact for a change.

René Weissinger leads them to the line from Vorarlberg - Corratec.

And he holds on for the win, a photo finish for 2nd goes to Dean Downing followed by Maxime Vantomme. As for our riders, they finish 10th, 11th, and 12th. Larsson-Peraud-Talansky, they didn't even leave the formation. Talansky didn't have anything left to pass Larsson or Peraud. Still a good result though.

This 7 stage tour features 4 flat stages, 2 mountain top finishes, and one individual time trial. With the Paris-Bourges and Giro del Piemonte happening during the duration of the tour, Talansky will be there, giving us no reason for in depth reports for flat stages 1-3. Jayco Herald Sun Tour Stage 4 Report

Yesterday's breakaway win might have gave the GC lead to Stanislav Kozúbek, but today is all about the climbers getting it back. Lovkvist should have no problem keeping up with the best of them today.

Lets just jump to the climb ... a 12-man breakaway still leads by a minute.

And it doesn't take long for us to launch our first tactic. Daniel Martin attacks off the front. A few others counter, but none of the favourites.

Riccardo Riccò is the first favourite to attack, he is countered by anyone with energy left including Lovkvist, Deignan, and Peterson. Rory Sutherland is also there, but it is hard to tell who else has made the move with the breakaway being caught at the same time.

Now with 10kms to go, Martin is up front with everyone else chasing. Lovkvist has caught Ricco, but Deignan and Peterson have yet to bridge the gap.

But they eventually get there. Martin is still in control, with Nelson Rocha closely behind. Then a full minute back to Lovkvist and favourites. 7kms to go ...

Rocha is reeled in with 5kms to go, but they don't seem interested in catching Martin, the pace slows right down.

Then out of nowhere Riccardo Riccò finds the energy to attack and closes down the gap to Martin. Lovkvist tries to counter but doesn't have the strength.

And Ricco won't be caught today, Martin holds onto 2nd a great result for him. Lovkvist comes to the line 6th, 1'10'' behind Ricco. So the tour is still up for grabs with the stage 6 ITT. Lovkvist can ride circles around Ricco against the clock.

Q: Great ride today Daniel, can you give us any insight for tomorrow's mountain stage?
A: Well, it is the last mountain stage of the year for the team, so expect Lovkvist to come out hungry to make his make on the climbs on last time. As for me, I would like to hold onto my GC placing right now. But I might have to give it to better position Lovkvist for the win.

While the EA-Sony climbers are in Australia, the rest of the team can be found back in France for this one-day classic. Peraud and Talansky will have the challenge of keeping the sponsors happy for the last time this season. They are looking for a top 10.

And it's Ackerman who gets things started early, jumping into the breakaway with two other riders. And they are getting away.

At the most they held a lead of 8 minutes, but with 55kms to go it is down to 3 minutes.

Ackerman is feeling the pressure from behind and decides to go for it alone.

25kms from the finish, the riders hit a small incline. And Peraud takes his chance to catch the peloton off guard.

But his hopes for the stage win are shot down, as the sprint trains pick him up. Great effort none the less. Now our hopes to impress the sponsors lies in the hands of inconsistent Andrew Talansky.

Talansky sits around 15th with 1km to go ... he needs to make up some ground.

Kenny Van Hummel gets around Siedler for the win, and Steven Caethoven takes 3rd. But our eyes where glued on Andrew as he shows a powerfully kick 450 meters out. But was it enough ... YES! Talansky steals 10th. And keeps the sponsors happy as the season is coming to a close.

Congrats, nice result. Honestly, I didn't think Talansky would make it as his results weren't that good recently. But really good job!

@cunego59 It was wheel to wheel from 6th to 12th, and if the line had come half a foot early we would have missed our goal, it was that close. Very happy with the result. Smile

As we start the climb the breakaway holds a 5 minutes lead, and Ceramica picks up the tempo. And it catches Ricco off guard ... split right at the front of the peloton.

Q: How much time do you think you can get back on tomorrow's ITT?
A: Since it is only 18kms, 3'45'' will be tough. To get that much back I will need to have my best time trial of the year, plus a would need a little help from Ricco. But hey anything is possible, and a few tips from the World ITT Champ Larsson could put me in 1st when tomorrow is over.

Jayco Herald Sun Tour Stage 6 Report

Thomas Lovkvist gets to challenge for GC today, but being 3'45'' behind Ricco 1st overall might be to far away. And with stage 7 flat for the sprinters, this has to be final call for him.

Deignan and Peterson go 30 minutes before Lovkvist, and they find out the route isn't as flat as the profile might look.

Lovkvist is looking really good today, and it also helped his confidence knowing that he was the favourite for the stage win.

Daniel Martin doesn't have a good day today, but in the end he will keep the white jersey, so he is happy. This moves Lovkvist into 4th in GC.

Ruslan Pidgornyy has a great day today, and comes in 2nd just 20 seconds behind Lovkvist. So Pidgornyy holds onto 3rd, 7 seconds in front of Lovkvist.

João Cabreira crosses the line next, and finishes 35 seconds behind Lovkvist. So he will also hold onto his 2nd.

And lastly it's Riccardo Riccò, and these small hills worked wonders for him. He crosses the line in 3rd. Only losing 23 seconds to Lovkvist. So Thomas will have to settle 4th overall, 3'22'' behind Ricco. But it isn't all bad news today, along with Lovkvist stage win, we also keep Martin's white jersey, and we still lead the team competition.

Jayco Herald Sun Tour Stage 7 Report

No this isn't another time trial, 25kms of high paced riding. The sprinters should have no problem getting the win today, but a fast tempo could cause crashes farther back in the peloton on such a short stage.

Peterson tries to jump off the front, in hopes the sprinters horribly miss judge the length of the stage.

But the sprinters aren't having any of it. Everyone is caught with 11kms to go.

And then disaster strikes for race leader Ricco. As mention before, the high pace caught Ricco at the back of the peloton and that isn't where you want to be when riders are falling down in front of you. The peloton is riding away, and so is his race lead ...

At the finish Nicolas Sanderson beats Andrew Pinfold and soon to be EA-Sony rider Jake Keough for the win. But the big question on everyone's mind is where is Ricco ... He comes to the line 3'22'' behind the peloton. The exact same time Lovkvist was trailing Ricco at the start of the stage. Which means João Cabreira takes 1st, Ruslan Pidgornyy 2nd, and after hours of review on film, they placed Ricco in 3rd beating Lovkvist by .00013 seconds. So Lovkvist just missed out on the podium but the team didn't do to bad with Martin being the best young rider, and we also take home the team competition.

Q: Wow a crazy day out there when everyone thought this was going to be a simple bunch sprint, any comments?
A: I actually kind of feel sorry for Ricco, but he had it coming as he tends to ride in the middle of the peloton. But the course today didn't help him at all either, with strong winds and sharp bends something bad was going to happen soon than later. And I'm glad the same thing didn't happen to me.

Giro del Piemonte Race Report

The second to last stage of the year for the team, and it going to test Talansky one last time before he goes into the off-season to train to become a climber. So this is his last race as the top EA-Sony sprinter.

Peraud tries to attack the field early, but the sprint teams shut it down right away.

So Ackerman tries the same ... and he gets away.

So with Ackerman 2 minutes up the road a few others decide a breakaway might work today. But this causes the peloton to speed up, and eventually everyone is back with 60kms to go.

Then Talansky goes down with a flat, what bad luck on his last race. He is able to ride back into the peloton, but is really feeling fatigued after having to chase them down.

Fast forward to a kilometer to go, Talansky has found his second wind. He is passing everyone, he is approaching the front!

Q: So it's over ... how would you rate your season?
A: 5 out of 10, but it was really fun. I didn't get all the results I wanted, especially at the beginning of the season, but I pulled out some good results here at the end. And there is only room to grow since I'm only 21 years old, better results are sure to come and perhaps a stage win next year. See'ya guys in 2011.

Japan Cup Race Review

The last race is finally here! And for such an occasion both Larsson and Lovkvist are present. The first time since June 6 at the Philadelphia International Championships, where they finish 1-2. We are hoping for the same kind of success today to cap off a great year. But also here is a determined Riccardo Ricco to take revenge for his fall on stage 7 of the JH Sun Tour.

With Larsson not attacked with the leader role for a change, he decides to create the morning breakaway. But he is pulled back a circuit later. But the peloton refuses to chase the other breakaway riders that also got away.

With the breakaway leading by 7 minutes with 2 circuits left, Ricco decides his best chance to win is to attack. But we decide not to counter and instead chase for another circuit.

So Lovkvist attacks on the last lap up the key climb, the breakaway still leads by 6 minutes with 15kms to go. He easily catches up to Ricco.

But today belongs to breakaway rider Petr Bencik, as he steals our hopes for a win on the last day of the season. A few more breakaway riders come in to take spots 2, 3, and 4. So Lovkvist is battling Ricco for a top 5.

And he gets it. Lovkvist ends the season by taking 5th here at the Japan Cup.
