Transfer news
Team Petronas - Monster Energy is proud to announce our first signing. Fulfilling the wish of our sponsor to get more Malaysian, Chinese and Australian riders in the team, this is the first step. Nick Bose is a 21-year-old Australian stage racer, who has a lot of potential. Our scout called him a Future Great, so although his stats are pretty low at the moment, we'll sure that he'll develop in a podium candidate for the stage races. We see him as the next Cadel Evans! He'll start as a trainee at August 1st, and will ride some races then.

Well, he is certainly not the next Cadel Evans, but he can be an alright climber, hunting for stage wins and mountain jerseys (or maybe GCs in smaller stage races, who knows) |

Not sure about him turning into a top class stage racer. His mountain stat, TT and backup qualities are really, really low. The scout's opinion shouldn't really be trusted is my experience. He'll need an 8 in potential to reach above 75 climbing I think.
Still, you never really know with PCM.

Well, as I needed to sign some Aussies to please the sponsor, I immediately offered him a contract, when my scout had scouted him as a Future great. Then I saw his stats and thought "oops...."
But when I checked his potential in the editor, I was pretty happy again with Mo 83, TT 79 and Hi 81 .

And about Imageshack, this was said at their site :
On 11/14/12 we experienced technical issues that disabled access to thumbnails and resized images. Direct image links continued to work. All problems have been resolved, and all is well now.

Exactly what Pelli said. He probably has 6 or 7 potential, so he will probably top at about 73-74 MO. Hence my statement about him being a potential stage hunter / good breakaway rider / leader in smaller stage races.
Edit: never mind, he will be a beast

Exactly... I can't really remember anything like this happening in any of my careers. But let's hope this guy develops fast |

Well, nevertheless in a few years time we'll see if that signing was good or not. |

Stage 4
Stage 4 is the first difficult stage in this edition of Paris - Nice. The 188 kilometres between Creches-dur-Saone and Belleville in the department Rhones, features 7 categorized climbs and 3289 height metres. GC-contenders probably won't win the GC here, but can loose it!
120km
As we believe that a breakaway can be succesful today, we want to be part of the BOTD. Thus Grégory Bernard is the first rider to attack today, and it turns out to be the succesful breakaway. Together with Fischer, Devolder, Guldhammer, Bonnafond, Chtioui and Loosli, he forms the BOTD. With 120km to go, they have a 11 minute lead to the peloton.
60km to go
And a crash in the peloton with 60km to go. Thomas De Gendt (Radio Shack) and Greg Van Avermaet (Sony Ericsson) face the consequence of kissing handle bars, and they hit the tarmac. Van Avermaet is the unlucky one, fracturing his thigh, while De Gendt has his full team waiting for him, and bringing him back to the first peloton.
43km to go
Bernard wins the penultimate KOTM-sprint of the day at the Col du Fut d'Avenas, and secures himself of the KOTM-jersey. But the work to collect the points has blown his legs, and he has to let the other 6 go. At this point, the peloton follows at 3'48.
8km to go
The BOTD has split into 2 pieces, and Marcel Fischer, Rasmus Guldhammer, Stijn Devolder and Rafaa Chtioui are present in the first group. With a margin of 2'08 to the first peloton with only 8km to go, the stage win looks certain (and possibly the yellow jersey!).
Finish
Chtioui is leading the sprint, but has started it too far before the finish. He gets passed by German Marcel Fischer, who takes his first win in over 4 years of professional cycling! Chtioui finishes in 2nd, Guldhammer in 3rd and Romain Feillu in 4th. Yes, the peloton has managed to ride 2 minutes faster in only 8 kilometres! Our best sprinter Matti Breschel finishes in 12th place.

Today's winner
Word from the DS
The good thing about today is that Gregory Bernard took the KOTM-jersey. The bad thing is that Breschel had such a bad sprint, that he finished in 12th place. He was even leading Feillu with 500m to go, but completely stalled..... Tomorrow is for the climbers, with the Col de la Mure!

Stage 5
The queen’s stage of this edition of Paris – Nice brings the riders from St. Symphorien / Coise to Vernoux-en-Vivarais. The route is 185 kilometres long and features 7 KOTM-sprints and 3885 heught metres. The 2 most difficult obstacles are the Col de la Croix Chaubouret (10.1km at 6.9%, summit 138km) and the Col de la Mure (7.5km at 8.5%). The summit of the Col de la Mure is only 8 kilometres before the finish.
53km to go
9 riders are to be found in the BOTD: Bauer, Demaret, Gómez Marchante, Gutiérrez, Houanard, Riblon, Schwab, Stetina and Wielinga. Euskaltel’s José Ángel Gómez Marchante is the best climber of the 9 and collects the most KOTM-points, thus kicking our Gregory Bernard out of the KOTM-jersey.
15km to go
The peloton has arrived at the foot of the Col de la Mure, with a margin of 3’55 to the leading 9. Wilco Kelderman has the best legs today of our team, so he’s the team leader. And he starts the climb in the first ranks of the peloton, helped by Matti Breschel.
14km to go
Our old team member Andy Schleck is the first of the favourites to attack, already after 1 ascending kilometre. The 9 lead by 3’40.
11km to go
Back to the leading group of 9. Well, the soil leader to be more precisive, as Gómez Marchante has dropped the other 8. Only Hubert Schwab (BMC), Jack Bauer (Saur) and José Ivan Gutiérrez (Movistar) can follow him, however ’27 behind. Andy Schleck follows at 2’26 and the peloton at 3’11.
10km to go
But counter attacks are all over the place in the peloton. Wilco Kelderman, still with a low fitness and not the best legs today (daily form 0), continues climbing in his own pace, and is joined by Tony Martin. Gómez Marchante leads, Schwab follows at 1’22, Schleck, Bauer and Gutiérrez at 1’37, Luis León Sánchez (Euskaltel) at 2’09, Michele Scarponi (Saxo Bank) and Mikel Nieve (Astana) at 2’21 and the peloton, with Hoogerland, Voeckler and De Gendt in the lead at 2’50.
8km to go
Gómez Marchante crests the summit of the Col de la Mure, and knows that he’ll be wearing the polka dot jersey tomorrow. The stage win is a different story, as Schwab and Schleck are closing the gap rapidly. The 2 follow at ’28, with Sánchez, Scarponi and Nieve at ’57, De Gendt, Hoogerland, Voeckler and Jeanneson at 1’20 and Kelderman at 1’56.
Finish
Schleck joins Gómez Marchante in the descend, and also Sánchez, Scarponi and Nieve joint hem. Th epace drops, so also the group De Gendt can close the gap. Unfortunately for Kelderman, he can’t, as when the road starts to ascend again for the last 2 kilometres, he sees them riding 300 metres in front of him.
In the sprint for the win, Andy Schleck shows that he has the best legs, and takes the first win for Team Sky. Nieve and Luis León Sánchez take splace 2 and 3 at ’13. De Gendt and Scarponi follow at ’25, with Kelderman taking the 11th place at 1’21.
Schleck also takes over the yellow jersey, with Nieve at ’15, Sánchez at ’17, De Gendt at ’31 and Kelderman in 9th at 1’27.

Today’s winner
Word from the DS
Considering the fitness (85) and daily form (0), this was a good result for Kelderman. And with tomorrow’s 27 km ITT to go, he will possibly climb the GC.

Too bad Schleck isn't part of Petronas anymore!
A more than decent result for Kelderman, let's hope he rides an even better time trial! |
